Even though we don't have a reference for offworld spiecies, the default response on encounter is to kill, maim, imprison, interrogate and try to establish contact in favorable terms to you. All the old scfi stuff was gay and written by hippies. I think only Hyperion and Dune got this, despite being left leaning and wh40k is a joke/endgame.
