How do I get into Yakuza? There are like fifteen games, three remakes, and the original trilogy isn't even on Steam anymore.
Release order, skip the demakes
>>750731809Just play them in release order. DO NOT play Yakuza 0 first. It's the best one and will make all the other games look bad.
start at 1
play Judgment instead, it will make everything else look like shit but it's a self contained story with a great cast of characters, no baggage from the main games needed

>>750731809just play 0. it's the best. you dont need to know anything to play it.then one day if youre starving for more you can go on and play the inferior games. playing inferior games first and losing that initial spark, in hopes of eventually playing the superior game? I'm sorry the story doesn't justify that.
>>750731902why? they look cool. ps2 versions look nowhere near as polished
>>750732493They cut and change a bunch of content in favor of more reused assets and shit that really fucks with the tone
>>750732493>why? they look cool.Yakuza 0 is literally designed from the start as a game for people who played 1, 2, Kenzan, 3, 4, Dead Souls, 5, and Ishin before ever touching it. It was meant explicitly for fans to get some backstory for literal whos from 1. It being approachable with no knowledge is because of happenstance, they didn't even think about the fact it was a prequel.Kiwami 1 is a direct sequel to 0 and expects you to have played 0, it is not intended to be played as a replacement for 1.Kiwami 1 introduces Majima Everywhere which not only ruins Kiryu's main style by mandating dozens of the exact same fight with Majima but also locks entire moves behind side characters who are tied to it as well and it ruins the pacing of the main story on top of it as it has to justify why Majima is fighting Kiryu in sections that make no sense.Kiwami 2 changes Takashima's character model to an old man which is the actual antithesis to his character and makes all of his motivaitons make no sense. It also removed Shinseicho as a location you can visit and countless minor locations, a unique minigame only in 2, and some other stuff here and there.Kiwami 3 butchers 3's already lackluster story, mandates playing the major minigame just to progress with the main story even though it's literally a 2+ hour detour, and cuts so much content while the new content is extremely grindy and tedious. Most importantly every single remake (K1, K2, K3, and Ishin Kiwami) all either cut a notable amount of content, retcon stuff so severely that stuff now makes zero sense going forward (K3 literally cannot even carry into 4's main story it's that messed up), remove content so now content that is referenced in future games makes zero sense like Minamida or Amon's entire story, or completely ruin the gameplay with their changes like Ishin Kiwami's card system, armor changes, style reworks, and Seals. Even the 3-5 remasters are worse than the PS3 versions due to the 60 FPS.
>>750731809Play 0 than play Lost Judgment
>>750731809ignore all answers, play Yakuza 0 first. you wouldn't want to waste 50+ hours in one of the lesser games to find out you don't like the series right? fall to temptation.....do it. DO IT.0>1=2>6>4>8>7>5>3
>>750731809Starting with 0 is the equivalent of starting with MGS3 aka the best thing you can do if you value your time, not every game in the entry is actually worth playing and if you start with one of the bad ones you might skip on the actually good one which would be a shame

>>750731809Start with 0 then Kiwami.I honestly don't think the PS2 version of Yakuza 1 is worth it. PS2 version of Yakuza 2, on the other hand is a massive glow-up, I honestly suggest playing both OG Yakuza 2 and Kiwami 2
In the age of vibecoding ports of everything and we still don't have PS3 Yakuza 1&2 in English
>>750731809I'll be fair and admit I've only played through remake Ishin, because I love the setting. With that being said: you should treat Ishin as a fan service game. You can go buy the extra content with cards or whatever if you just want to have a fun time being extremely powerful and fulfill you katana slashing fantasies>>750733741>Yakuza 0 is literally designed>for people who played 1, 2, Kenzan, 3, 4, Dead Souls, 5, and Ishin before ever touching itHow can any main Yakuza (Y0) game be designed with Ishin in mind? Ishin is Your Favorite Yakuza Characters(tm) plastered on historical people.>or completely ruin the gameplay with their changes like Ishin Kiwami's card system, armor changes, style reworks, and Seals.Even if the remake is "completely ruined" for some it sounds like these are only problems for the mega fans. For instance, I could mostly ignore the card system altogether and tedious stuff like the crafting system. Playing the main content of the game is completely fine.

>>750737338>How can any main Yakuza (Y0) game be designed with Ishin in mind? You get rewarded items for both Kiryu and Majima for having a save file from it and only it.A good third of the crafted items are lifted straight out of Ishin be they materials or actual equips.Majima learns Tennen Rishin from Fei Hu who personally uses Okita (Majima's) style while doing so.Majima himself uses either Nagakura or Hijikata's moveset when using Tennen Rishin after learning it, I forgot which.Multiple enemies during the game use Tennen Rishin. You as a fan are expected to notice these things because 0 is and always was a 10th anniversary game made for existing fans, not to bring in new fans. Even 3 has tons of Kenzan references and 5 literally has Shinada training with a Houzoin descendant in the Victory Road content who has spoken dialogue and everything.>I could mostly ignore the card system altogether and tedious stuff like the crafting systemYeah, and you know what happens when you ignore the card and Seal systems past the half way point? Battle Dungeon bosses are introduced in the final gauntlet and chapter 12 as a main story boss and have absurdly high defense to try and force you to use it. The complete reworking of the armor system means Gunman becomes 100% unusable if you don't bare minimum throw Pierce on a gun or spend time breaking armor with Swordsman which itself ruins the flow of the game. You are also expected to use the passive effects of cards as all enemies are balanced around their existence in Kiwami unlike in the original where it wasn't even a thing.>>750736676The guy behind the PS2 translation patches showed he was working on it shortly after he finished 2 but said it might be a while before he gets to it so there's technically someone doing it.
somebody please slopcomp kenzan before the corprorate overlords shut it all down
>>750731809The real answer is to play zero because it's the only good game in the series. If you like it enough play 1 and 2 because they're good enough. After that you can play Judgement

>>750731809Start at the beginning, you fucking retard.
>>750737573Oh boy, it finally happened. Just remember that for anyone who wants to play this you still need to guide game if you want to do anything other than the main story. All this does is allow you to understand the dialogue, it will not help you in fighting Amon or doing all the missable content of which Kenzan has the most in the series.>Picking the wrong dialogue choice in a substory voids Amon.>Missing a Kakemawari mission, substory, or bounty voids Amon.>Leaving any content to even the next chapter let alone endgame voids most of the completion list and Amon.>NG+ wipes your completion list except for crafted swords.>Multiple Heat Actions are not only chapter-locked but also permanently missable.>Locker keys, Heat Actions, Komaki and his rival's training, the Tengu techniques, yuujo, yuujo minigames, gambling minigames, and more are permanently missable if you wait until endgame because Gion arbitrarily gets locked even though there's no reason why you wouldn't be able to return.>If you rush Gyoutensei's inventions prior to chapter 13 (Very unlikely as it requires 5+ hours of tournament grinding for materials) then you permanently break his substory and void Amon though maybe the translation patch fixes this as it mentions bug fixes. If people want my mini guide from when I was 100%ing it years ago I can go scrounge the archives for it.
>>750737774>You get rewarded items for both Kiryu and Majima for having a save file from it and only it.>Majima learns Tennen Rishin from Fei Hu who personally uses Okita (Majima's) style while doing so.>Multiple enemies during the game use Tennen Rishin.Yeah fair. Is Tennen Rishin that important for Y0 however? Just a small nod?>A good third of the crafted items are lifted straight out of Ishin be they materials or actual equips.Let's be real, that isn't an intentional design choice for players who played a previous game. The devs are just lazy. Furthermore, I don't see it being a problem for whatever order you play the games in.>Yeah, and you know what happens when you ignore the card and Seal systems past the half way point?I ignored the seal system completely lol. Only had to start using cards (played normal difficulty) for kondo isami "koichi adachi" in chapter 7...>The complete reworking of the armor system means Gunman becomes 100% unusable if you don't bare minimum throw Pierce on a gun or spend time breaking armor with Swordsman which itself ruins the flow of the game. You are also expected to use the passive effects of cards as all enemies are balanced around their existence in Kiwami unlike in the original where it wasn't even a thing.eh the gun being useless in situations wasn't a thing i was thinking about too much. It's pretty gimmicky to begin with.
>>750731809Start with Kiwami, play the originals up to 5, then play 0 and think back on how good the series is.
>>750739361>Just a small nod?Just a small nod, like virtually everything else in the side and even main content of the game since it's an anniversary game. You're even supposed to go into the Nishiki story segments knowing he's an egotistical dickhead which changes his entire first encounter from being a bro to trying to show off how much better he is than Kiryu by flaunting his money on top of the whole suit scene where he acts like his taste is better than Kiryu's.>Let's be real, that isn't an intentional design choice for players who played a previous game. The devs are just lazy. It's very much both as they went out of their way to do a bunch of unique descriptions specifically pointing out they're from Ishin. Same deal with the Kenzan materials.>played normal difficultyWell yeah, no wonder. You're playing easy difficulty where nothing matters. Hard on these games is the Normal difficulty. Easy is Very Easy.>It's pretty gimmicky to begin with.It wasn't in the original at all. It was the best style in the game. Ishin Kiwami also turned WIld Dancer from an unusable style until midgame to the most broken style in the entire game with infinite iframes just because they removed the Dharma Roll from it making Swordsman 100% pointless unlike in the original where it was the "main" style for the early game and then pivoted to being the boss style until endgame.
>>750731809Play 0 and move on
Man, I did not miss the combat one bit even though I love this Amon moveset the most out of the whole series.

>>7507319200 is so fucking overhyped. You retards built it up to be some masterpiece and it's not even the best Yakuza game
>>750732493they pad out each game's runtime with useless shit while also just being thrown together with whatever remained from the last year's game to make the release deadline. i think kiwami 2 only took them 8 months to make and it shows
I tried playing yakuza starting with K1 but fell down the mahjong and shogi rabbit hole and never played another. I really really really hate mahjong, though.
>>750731809You play Yakuza 0 and move on with your life since that's the only good game in the franchise.
>>750731809The only games worth playing are 0, Kiwami 1, and Lost JudgementMaybe 4 for Tanimura
>>750740820skill issue
>>750731809Thank God the Dragon Engine games finally fixed Kiryu's retarded design. He was so fucking ugly until Y6
>>750741024Never play shogi unless you actually like its variant of chess. There's only one game that mandates actually properly playing it (I think either LJ or 7G) and you use Shogidokoro for that with Spear Shogi. You go second and play the CPU's moves against Spear Shogi while copying the moves Spear Shogi makes. For every single other game you google "[Game] Puzzle Shogi 1" and do 1-10 and you're done for the rest of the game. The Dragon Engine games also use the exact same Puzzle Shogi layouts so from either K2 or JE to K3 you can just pull up any of their solution videos and instantly be done.Mahjong you need to learn though, no way about it.
>>750741175>Mahjong you need to learn though, no way about it.Can't I just ask AI to play Mahjong for me?
>>750731920Well I’m fucked, I just finished 0 and bought the rest of them because I loved it so much.
>>750741220No, it's entirely up to luck of the draw, knowing what hands are even viable, what you can play from what's already been discarded, etc. It's like asking something to play Uno for you or gin rummy (Which it's regularly compared to). There's so much in play and so many variables it's not possible to explain it all in any reliable way and even if you could it would still just be generally guessing because you have to luck into stuff and make completely random decisions at times that can either completely wipe the table or wipe you out.
>>750731809Start with either Yakuza 0 if you like Beat 'em ups or Yakuza: Like A Dragon if you like turn-based combat. Both are great entries to the series.
>>750739587>Hard on these games is the Normal difficulty. Easy is Very Easy.Yeah lol nippy nip (or any east asian) games are rough for the uninitiated like myself. Playing normal was more challenging than if it was hard in a western game.>It wasn't in the original at all. That's a shame...
>>750731809good question. they seem like the type of games I would love. i played yakuza 0 for a little bit and got bored of it kind of quick. i don't know
>>750741292Nothing will recapture the magic because the entire rest of the series is like watching unfunny clowns parody something you've never even heard of.
>>750741615>i played yakuza 0 for a little bit and got bored of it kind of quick. i don't knowIf you got turned off by the Nishiki walk and talk mini-tutorial that's basically the only one in the entire game and placed right at the start. If all you are doing is only playing the main story you are playing the entire series wrong as the intention is for you to randomly stop playing the main story even if it makes no sense to do so and start doing substories, minigames, and wandering around the cities before returning back to the main story when you feel like doing so. You're meant to be interacting with everything, not rushing it, so that you get variety. If you have an issue with lots of text or 30+ minute cutscenes you won't like the series as that's the main aspect of it. It's a playable J-drama.
If you're not a major autist>Start with 0. Its fucking fantastic >Kiwami 1 >Kiwami 2 >OPTIONAL Either Kiwami 3 OR Remastered 3. >Remastered 4>Remastered 5 >Yakuza 6 The Song Of LifeThis is the baseline story about the mainline protagonist(s). Kiwami and Kiwami 2 add some things to the early PS2 games and are worthwhile for many reasons. There is some minor autistic reasons to play an emulated and fan translated version of the JP PS2 1 and 2 (ie there's a certain building that isn't in the Kiwamis because JP copyright law meant they had no ability to depict it again, but its a minor thing.)) Anyway, these threads usually have... yep the tripfag Moose posts some pretty comprehensive shit on the very autistic differences in some of the PS2 era titles vs the kiwamis, zero and more. All of these play as the main action combat style. Then comes >Yakuza 7 Like a Dragon (plays RPG-ish)>The Man Who Erased His Name (action combat )Do not play until you played Y7 and at very least finished Y6 >Y8 Infinite Wealth (RPG-ish again)>Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii (Action)This is sort of fever dream of Majima while the other characters are doing their Infinite Wealth shit in Hawaii. >SIDE GAMES >Like a Dragon : Ishin (aka Ishin Kiwami)This his basically Meiji era fantasy with all your favorite Yakuza characters. Play anytime, but realize that making Sakamoto Ryoma and the Shinsengumi characters from Yakuza series doesn't take away from it one bit. >Judgement>Lost JudgmentTaking place in the same setting as Yakuza games, but starring a former attorney/detective who's modeled by a very, very famous actor. A good set of sidestories and a game independent as you kick ass through Kamurocho.
Just start with 0. I knew nothing of Yakuza when I first played it, like I legit just never heard of it somehow lmao. and I fell in love with it. 0 is fucking great, man. but I do agree that it's the best in the series, which will probably make you dislike certain games more due to that. But to be fair, I have enjoyed all the games. 3 did have terrible combat, but I would avoid playing the kiwami version, I would stick with the original. Enjoy the games, anon, they're really good.
>>750740964It was the game that caused the yakuza series to become much more popular in the west again, mostly due to eceleb shilling (such as videogamedunkey) and the snowball effect of people sharing "memes" and clips of the "wacky" aspects of the game(s) (side stories, minigames, particularly karaoke, majima, etc). It was thus most of the new western players first yakuza game, and thus they think it's the "best" because of the bias of it being their first time experiencing a yakuza game, the first time is always the most magical (with everything).
>>750742838>3 did have terrible combatNo, it's just the only game where you can't just button mash and actually need to break guards (be it through skills, weapons or just by grabbing). Also the "remastered" PC released is bugged due to the increased framerate: The dodge goes a considerably shorter distance and enemies block more than on the original console release. But honestly even with the increased blocking of the PC release it's still completely doable, again you just have to actually utilize the tools the game gives you to break blocks. If you are into comboing in action games, 3 actually has some of the best combat in the series. The only people that complain are button mashers. Which I can't really fault them for playing like that, because RGG has basically greatly encouraged, if not downright forced it down our throats, with all of their newest (action) yakuza releases. Obviously the yakuza games aren't pure action games, they are also RPGs, and to some extent visual novels. But they've been progressively lobotomizing the action aspects of the games, and I'm not even talking about 7 and 8, I mean the non-JRPG ones that still have real time action combat (see "Majima Pirate game whatever the fuck").
>>750741338>>750741220Mahjong in Yakuza is fucking painful. If you play the expert table you have like 5% chance to get a lucky seed, if not you can only play defensively as the CPU will have hands ready in 5 turns. But when you DO get the lucky seed the wins you start getting feel really fucking amazing.
>>750740919No it doesnt
>>750743824The highest difficulty table is actually the easiest and the easiest is the hardest. They didn't fix this until around either 7 or LJ so keep that in mind. Past those games the difficulty is correct and the double riichis and yakuman start appearing on the highest difficulty tables while the easiest are actually easy.
I'll never understand why the boomer fans hate the Dragon Engine games so much. They're the only ones that actually have combat that's fun
either start from 1 (not kiwami) and go in release order or just play 0 and stop lol
0, kiwami, kiwami 2. 3, 4, 5, are fairly skippable. 6 is the finale7, 8 are the modern entry points
>>7507440903 isn't remotely skippable, it introduces the orphanage Kiryu runs, as well as Saejima, both extremely important to the plot of the rest of the series.
>>750744438Wait, my bad, the 2nd part is yakuza 4 lol
>>750743460Are you retarded? It's the ONLY serious one.
Start with the original on PS2. 20 second load times for every single fight be damned, it's great and you will see how this became a gigantic franchise. If you can't bring yourself to go back that far, go ahead and start with 0.
>>750746346>20 second load times for every single fight be damnedIt's not that bad if you're on PCSX2, it ends up being more like 10ish seconds. If you can read Japanese or are willing to deal with guides then 1&2 HD is even faster than that at like 7ish seconds plus it's the definitive version of 1 and 2 anyway.
0 is the only good game in this dogshit franchise
>>7507318090 (no Director's cut, if you plan to buy the games, they made it impossible to buy og 0, so you have to pirate it)>K1>K2>3 remastered (dont play K3)>4 remastered>5 remastered>6After this, it's up to you, 7 and 8 are jrpgs, while Judgement and Lost Judgement keeps the brawler gameplay, you should play them before 7 (Judgement) and after 7 (Lost Judgement). Yakuza Gaiden also should be played before 8. There are also orher spin offs but like i said it's up to you
>>750746565Oh, Gaiden sets up the new bullshit they are pushing in 0 Director's Cut and Kiwami 3 so beware of that
>>750731902I played the PS2 originals in 2013 and the Kiwamis in 2019, Kiwami 1 is way better than the original Yakuza even with Majima everywhere, Yakuza 2 however is way better than Kiwami 2 in practically every aspect, there is no need to ever play Kiwami 2 since it doesn't even have lore relevant new stuff (like Kiwami with the pocket racer, he doesn't exist anywhere in Kiwami 2), they even cut an entire district and removed entire stylistic choices, Kiwami 2 really is a demake.
>>750746565>they made it impossible to buy og 0, so you have to pirate ithttps://www.gog.com/en/game/yakuza_0You are not forced to play the downgrade that is the Director's Cut on PC and on consoles you just buy the original version which there's 500k+ copies of not even counting the LRG ones.>3 remastered (dont play K3)You emulate 3 with the restoration patch. There is no reason to ever play the Remastered version outside of laziness. You cannot fix the important 60 FPS issues like blocking frequency or quicker Heat Action timings, only the dodge distance, Heat drain, and enemies not shooting.>4 remastered>5 remasteredYou emulate the PS3 version of these as well as both 4R and 5R are downgrades to the original in both script and due to the 60 FPS causing glitches.Any system that can play 3R-5R should be able to emulate at least 3 and 4 with ease, 5 is the only spotty one.>>750746662K1's PCF is not canon, neither is Munan Chohept. 6 specifically retconned them out of existence so none of those substories mattered.
>>750746772>GoGI puked
>>750733741Or maybe you're just gay. Yakuza 0 is a great entry point and anyone who says otherwise is a contrarian; a faggot with performative dialogue to "fit in" with the "hardcore" Yakuza "fans."
>>750742217The entire 100% optional school substory (which is like 15 hours long) in Lost Judgment is the single best writing of this entire franchise and moggs the main story of the game, seems like they wasted all their talent on an entirely optional arch.

>>750746859this. played the entire series last year and don't regret starting with 0, the best game, one bit it made me love the series enough to play every game in a few month span
>>750746772Just looked it up again, you are correct, it seems that only his encounter in Y0 is canon>The first time we met was back during the bubble era, so it's been about 30 years now, huh?Still, I would always put Kiwami over the og Yakuza, it's very basic, maybe play it for the meme factor of the English voice acting.

>>750747175B-B-BUT THE GAMES WERE DESIGNED FOR ME, NOT FOR YOU!! YOU DIDN'T DO IT RIGHT!! REEEEEE
>>750746859>Yakuza 0 is a great entry point and anyone who says otherwise is a contrarianIt is an okay entry point at best that's at least better than 7 because it completely changes people's perception of the series and gives them incorrect expectations of what the series is at all leading to many people having a hard time actually expanding outward from it.>They think styles are the standard for the series when that's only become standardized post-6 and even then you have FotNS and now StH in there which leads to them complaining about lack of combat variety.>They think characters like Nishiki, Kazama, and Shimano are important in any way so they go into K1 thinking this and get massively disappointed when they're all jobbers or mostly mundane parts of the story.>They think the story is going to be as involved as it was in 0 when that wasn't even really done until like 3, maybe 4.>They get all these high quality consistent substories in 0 and then realize in the rest of the games it's 70% scam fillers with the occasional funny dialogue and like 30% good ones.>They have an absurd amount of quality of life improvements in menus and minigames that disappear.>0 has a decade of writing, substory structure, gameplay, and map changes under its belt and you go backwards from all of that. This has happened time and time again and people here have had massive issues going to K1 from 0, or to K2 from K1 because it has no styles, or from K2 to 3R because of the huge jump backwards in everything. We constantly have people complaining that either 0 is the only good game or that they can't get into K2/3R and have had it since 0 got many people into the series.>>750747330>YOU DIDN'T DO IT RIGHT!!Notice how I never said that in my original post, I simply said that it was designed as an anniversary game and that being able to be picked up as an intro game was by happenstance. It's an okay entry game but not ideal.
OP here, i don't really trust the people saying to start with 0. feels like the same type who says you should play metal gear solid in chronological order. to those who played by release, was yakuza 0 more rewarding for you as a longtime player?
>>750745714I didn't make any sort of statement comparing the "seriousness" of the individual games. You're reading comprehension is lacking. But if we are talking about this, the story of 0 isn't any less or more serious than the other games. The story of all the games is serious, the non-serious stuff is relegated to side content.
>>750747480>to those who played by release, was yakuza 0 more rewarding for you as a longtime player?yes
>>750747480>feels like the same type who says you should play metal gear solid in chronological orderThat's generally the way 4, 0, or 7 first is, yes. It's like starting with MGS3. Yes you can do it and yes it's a good game, but you'll be flopping around mechanics, writing, characters, etc. and getting either confused or disappointed in ways people wouldn't going in release order. You could even compare K1 to Twin Snakes.>was yakuza 0 more rewarding for you as a longtime player?Yes and no.Yes because it fleshed out Nishiki (A literal who character who appears a whopping 5 times in all of 1 despite being the main antagonist, not even having a line in one of the appearances), gave Shimano more time when he was great in the little he had in 1, the styles were fun to see all the different moves, the references were all over the place to find, the story was interesting, and it added so much interesting content. No because Yakuza 5 gives us backstory for Majima set just a few years after when 0 takes place and makes it pretty clear the main aspect of his story in 0 should have been done differently, especially when they continue to push this plotline despite 5 being there and contradicting what he said. It also introduces a retcon to the entire Amon storyline which I'm not a fan of and both K1 and K2 continued this retcon. Another problem I have is that Kiryu having Beast/Rush/Brawler has ruined the Dragon of Dojima style in future games, especially in 8 where we could have had Agent, because it's supposed to eventually merge those styles into DoD and be what DoD is all at once. DoD is the mastery of all these styles yet Kiryu still uses them individually for some reason. He can already move as fast as Rush in DoD and lift large objects without slowing to a crawl like in Beast, what is he doing this for?0 is a great game but I will always stand for release order because it's how the series is intended to be viewed from a gameplay, map, and writing view.
>>750748030>0 is a great game but I will always stand for release order because it's how the series is intended to be viewed from a gameplay, map, and writing view. This, for literally every game, and all media in general. Release order is literally the absolute sequence for things to go. Anything else is a distortion.
I wanna start a playthrough of Yakuza 2 but I know that the game is placed around Christmas. Is it worth waiting until December to play for the extra atmosphere?
>>750748115There's Christmas trees right next to the Yoshida Batting Center and behind Millennium Tower with the occasional snow depending what part of the story you're in. The atmosphere is there if you want it but it's not as pronounced as you might assume.
>>750748115I mean I wouldn't say it plays an integral part of the game, I didn't even remember it was placed around Christmas tbdesu. Christmas isn't really celebrated that heavily in Japan.
>>750735994if 0 is the greatest why would you start there when all the other games are going to feel lesser?
>>750748181It's a question of personal philosophy. Some eat their favorite part of a dish first, others save it for last.
>>750731809If you will actually play the series, i recommend you to not play every game one after another, the gameplay is the same for most of it and you risk a burnout
>>750748030>retcon to the entire Amon storylineQRD? I tried looking it up but it's hard to find anything about it online
test
>>750748393The Amon Clan has never been defeated or stopped from performing a hit. In 1 someone in the Tojo Clan (The assumption is Shimano, Nishiki, one of Sera's men, or even Yayoi) put a hit out on Kiryu with their clan to kill him. Because Kiryu defeated Jo in 1 the entire clan has now made it their goal to kill him and him exclusively because that's never happened before. In 0 Majima defeats Jo and Kiryu defeats So (Jo's father). Both Jo and So leave amicably mentioning nothing about no one ever defeating them before or caring that they failed their hits.In K1 Jo comes to fight Kiryu because he wants to become the strongest by fighting strong people like Kiryu and then leaves amicably having been defeated mentioning nothing about never being defeated before. In K2 it keeps the brothers 1:1 the same murder plot from 2 with the same goals while Jo himself is a mix of his dialogue from 2 about murdering Kiryu because of revenge and being about strength autism from K1.In K3 the Amon Riders (Literally like 40+ hitmen) lose to Kiryu and decide they're going to reform the Amon Clan which makes no sense since they're a group of hitmen. Then you fight Jo and it's 1:1 the same as 3 with him threatening to kill Kiryu for beating him. Then you go to 4 and now the Amon brothers are back to murder Kiryu AND his friends which carries over into 5 because they now have permanent hits on them for winning in 4.Prior to 0 you had Kenzan with Amon Jonoshin but he was a bounty hunter and Musashi had a hit out on him so Amon was trying to claim it, but MAJOR KENZAN SPOILERS because both he and Musashi die in the end they technically got their revenge. You also had Ishin where Amon loses and just wanders off so I guess you can argue this is where they first started the retcon. Or just assume neither really matter in the grand scheme of the story even though 8 more or less confirms them being part of the main timeline while Dead Souls is an alternate reality.
>>7507318090>>750731902The kiwamis are better than the PS2 shit, 3 remastered is better than Kiwami 3 though
Be a women
i only played 0, 7 and 8 because i don't care nigga
First play KiwamiThen play Kiwami 2 (Kiwami's are better)Then play 0 (you need to play 1+2 for full effect)Then try 3,4,5 without getting a burnoutThen plau 6 as an easy, short oneThen decide is you want turn based combatThat's the best way to enter
Should I play 2 original or Kiwami 2? I’ve already played 1,K1, and 0
>>750748826Oh I see, that is pretty dumb then. What's the reason they give for the amon clan fighting you in 0 again? Is it also about power scaling?
>>7507494730 had Majima and Kiryu have hits put out on them presumably by either Dojima or Shimano. Majima goes because he's confused who sent him the page and thinks it's some sort of puzzle, Kiryu goes to confront whoever sent it.
>>750746772If 60 fos bugs is thr only reason to not play 3 remastered then you should be able to easily fix that with a framecap? Assuming yakuza 3 remastered is on pc
>>750749667The internal logic is 60 always even if you force 30. Even though you are physically seeing 30 the game plays at 60. The Quickstep Restoration mod even mentions this.https://www.nexusmods.com/yakuza3remastered/mods/22It's why you can't fix the issues in 4R or 5R either.
>>750731809A) Start with the 2005 original Yakuza 1, and then play them in the release order. Stop after Yakuza 0.B) Start with Yakuza 0, and then play them in chronological order. Skip all Kiwa-MEH de-makes. Make sure you get de-censorship and Jap OST restoration patches.
>>750749430Original 2.KiwaMEHs are all fucking awful de-makes, and K2 is the beginning of the Dragon Engine jank. Think it as the Nip Unreal Engine 5 slop. That shit looks worse, plays worse, and they cut out a TON of content, including entire areas.
>>750747480>OP here, i don't really trust the people saying to start with 0. feels like the same type who says you should play metal gear solid in chronological orderOldass MGS and a nu-fag Yakuza fan here.Y0, the original version that is - not the awful Director's Cut, is honestly a good way of starting the franchise, if you need to sample the cream of the top and hopefully want to get hooked on the cast.If you however are an MGS veteran and thus not allergic to some oldschool shenanigas + the idea of the gameplay and plot evolving little by little. Which ever the route, just make sure you avoid the modern de-makes of the original trilogy, and check that you get de-censorship and OST restoration mods to make the HD remasters less gay. That is, if you are playing on a PC.
