Is this worth playing? I havent played it 20 years ago.
>>750722705Unironically one of the best single-player FF experiences, top 5 in the series for sure. It's nothing like the special thing it used to be, but it's still great. You can get through the story using all NPCs just fine, don't worry about rushing to do endgame stuff (garbage these days).
yeah it's pretty funI like how you have to group up with people to kill monsters efficiently and some of the job unlock quests are really coolI farmed for my carbuncle ruby for a really long time and the people I was grouping with got theirs and bailed, but I (RDM/WHM) solo'd those stupid leeches until it droppedFFXI is wonderful, my only complaint is that I was a noob and was having a hard time keeping up with all the gil I needed to spend getting new spells and equipment. Also, trying to play a summoner without first having WHM, BLM, or RDM levelled was rough, I couldn't reach some of the cities I had to go to to unlock the important summons, e.g. ifrit and leviathan.
>>750722705>Is this worth playing?yes but do not forget this is a 25 year old game, it's not going to hold your hand like most MMOs today, you gotta actually engage with it
>>750722705They recently released a free play version that comes with various restrictions, but it's a way to check the game out without spending money.
just play XIVevercold is out soon! :3
>>750722705You're 15-20 years too late to the party. If you play it in modern day, find a 99cap private server and solo your way through the kino Zilart/Promathia content and stop after that.
>>750722705play 14 instead
>>750722705I deeply enjoyed it, being in the same position as you. Had no clue about anything, just the usual instinct of avoiding Retail at all costs (as you always should with old MMOs, surely the modern version is but a shadow of its former self and not at all what people who played it back in the day experienced, now full of mechanical bloat, boosts that confuse newbies more than they help, hours of looking at start guides just to make any sense of it, etc).I don't understant the vast majority of people ITT telling you to play "for the story", meaning playing a different game altogether with all the bloat, boosts and solo-friendly aids at 50x EXP rates for basically the same experience you'd get by watching a playthrough or cutscenes or a summary on youtube at that point....Started playing on the Horizon private server 4 months back or so, I guess now there's the Phoenix server too which just recently launched with basically the same goal (?). And it's been nice. The game's not nearly as hard and I had assumed and you can definitel dive in blind. Got to meet nice people and I've been doing some end-game stuff as of late until I get bored. Loving Summoner, Puppetmaster and Bluemage. Expect a slooowww pace though, outside combat too. stuff like getting to a good non-combat money grind takes a while to ramp up (lvling fishing, or chocobo digging, or a prof)
>>750723176SMN is a tough one to choose as an early adv job. Most rewarding though. I remember soloing the mini avatars being some of my favorite moments of the early days.
>>750722705it is unironically the best FF after 7
It's a much different game then when it was first released with all the QoL additions to it. Not nearly the grind and brutal environment it once was. Man I miss the days of all the newbies getting wrecked in the low-mid level zones.
>>750722705Play on Phoenix private server now while everything is cheap
Not op bit ill play if the dragoon armor looks good
What private server is best to try as someone that never played this game and mostly wants to play solo and experience the story? I'm a buildcrafting autist too but I doubt I'll end up playing with anyone else.
>>750734983
No it's really boring there's a good reason it's the FF game basically everyone skips.
>>750735461Yea...
i enjoyed my time with it, if you play retail now, you can solo most of it, but i think it was at its best when partying up was mandatory and you were grinding through the game together with content level restrictions.there are a couple of servers out there that try to recreate that feeling, but they all got their own issues and unless you are good at making friends on the fly, play with people you know or don't play at all.
>>750735604>there's a good reason it's the FF game basically everyone skips.I skipped it because I don't play MMOs, I don't intend on ever playing 14 for that same reason
>>750722705this desu >>750722994I picked up the ultimate edition on steam a few years ago when it was on a sale to try it and it came with a free month (I think they changed how this stuff works now though idk). And I just nolifed the game for that month and paid for 1 more month to finish everything I wanted. If you're okay with using the NPC magic system to basically treat the game like a single player RPG that is online and you can look past a lot of the horrible jank the game has from being so old and primitive. Its a wonderful experience. I had a ton of fun doing all the stories, then just unlocking and leveling a bunch of jobs to 99 and fucking around with some of the content. Depending on how the f2p is it might even be worth checking out like that tooIf you're actually looking for an MMO to play with people and get involved with that side of it I really wouldn't recommend it for that though. I can count the number of times I interacted with another person in the 1.5-2 months I played one single finger, and it was early on when some random kind stranger passed by where I was supposed to fight a boss for the story that I couldn't solo at the time, and just asked if I wanted help and killed it for me.
>>750735212probably CatseyeXI with ACE character
>>75073560411 was the opposite of all other FF games when it came out.FF games were easy RPGs that de-emphasized personal exploration and sandbox mechanics in favor of serving up a cinematic story.FF11 felt much more like a classic Dragon Quest or Ultima game, you are dropped into a tough-as-nails world and character progression was itself the point, with story being a bonus for people who could develop their characters enough to clear it.That's why it has always been the best FF game. It's mechanics first where no other FF game was doing that. (Until 12 which was inspired by 11)
>>750722705No>>750722994Also no
>>750742874Neither DQ nor Ultima were hard and that wasn't the point of any of those games. FFXI also sucked shit at rewarding exploration.
