What’s the deal with two different shoulders on armors?

weird
Well, in OPs pic related undoubtedly not informed by any historical or practical considerations because it's stupid: like, what do you think what happens when you raise your arms? But armour routinely was at least slightly asymmetric. Here's an extreme example - a German jousting armour from Metropolitan Museum of Art: the idea here is that the opponent is going to hit you on the left side (when looking at Wikipedia to find out if there was a specific target zone you are supposed to hit - I think in most types of jousting you are wearing a shield as a target but Germans ditched those in favour of reinforced armour that it informs me is called Brechschild), and when jousting you don't need to be super mobile, so that part is super reinforced. That's extreme, but for a fighter who isn't ambidextrous, and who's facing mostly right-handed opponents, especially (but not just) for one fighting mounted, it kinda follows that one side is more vulnerable and the other side needs mobility more, and the tradeoff between protection and mobility results in asymmetry. Ergo, asymmetric armour.

>>750714176Exaggerated version of different types of armor being on the weapon and shield hands due to the varying levels of flexibility and defense needed.
>>750714176let's assume your opponent's dominant hand is his right onecan you guess which direction the blow will come from?
>>750715024It was terrible but DAO was worse
It's usually for jousting and to cover for the shield being only on one side of you.
