I see a lot of discussion about AI modding here and the endless possibilities that it offers, but the only evidence that ever get posted here are 10 second clips of two random games mashed together, with fairly dubious authenticity at that.so how legit is the whole scene really? will I really one day be able to mod whatever game I want in whatever way I want to? or is it just smoke and mirrors shilling for the flavor of the month premium AI model?
>>750710395AI will do 10% of the work, that's it.
>>750710395>so how legit is the whole scene really?Seems like 99.9% trash like you mentioned, but this is the one cool AI-made mod I've seen. Still haven't tried it myself since I haven't freed up the room to reinstall RDR2 yethttps://www.nexusmods.com/reddeadredemption2/mods/10967
>>750710395Like everything AI, the vast majority is half-assed trash.
>>750710395Well that's because it's an advertisement campaign, they're just trying to sell you trash by hyping it up.
>>750710395It's a new tool and like any other tool it'll either be used well or like shit. The problem is the entry level is so low you're going to be flooded with low level shit but there will probably be a few gems. It'll make modding easier but you will still need to know what you're doing if you want it to come out well.
at the end of the day, unless you really know what youre doing, AI is a toy at bestif you do know what youre doing, most of the time its faster just to do it yourself
>>750710395You get more back than what you put in proportional to the amount of effort spent in the process. Make no mistakes? You're not gonna get very much back. It's that simple.
>>750710395Its being overhyped to hell and backProbably wont deliver outside retarded meme shit with no value
>>750710395Wasn't that Project Reclaimer Halo 3 thing done with AI? I thought it was pretty impressive.
>>750710395What mods do you really want? Playing as X character in Y franchise is cute for a jewtube short, but I'm not going to replay a game just for that.Good mods take real effort and investment from dedicated fans, the slop machine isn't going to change that.
>>750710395All it’s doing is placing an avatar over a different game. It’s as smoke and mirrors as it gets.
I’m still waiting for the good ai game. I was promised years ago that ai would make good games.
>>750711140This is the truth. I know both programming and art and most the time it’s more useful to just learn things myself so I have immediate access to them in my workflow.
two more weeks
>>750710395I've been using Claude to add simple new mechanics as well as model swaps to games and it just works out of the box. Anything more complex would require some iterative work, asset creation is also a big hurdle, but it lowered the barrier of entry so much that I feel I could pretty much do anything with some effort.
>>750712335Do you have to pay for that or do the free versions do it
I think a lot of people just got a little overexcited and overassumed what AI could do. The most valuable thing is the porting.
>>750711947A lot of people liked E33
>>750712687That clearly had real writers and artists working on it. I’m talking about a game made by ai, not a game that used some ai in its production.
>>750712687Trying to sneak in AI images doesn't mean it's an AI game.
>>750712449Free version could technically work but the usage limit is way too low. Better to pay if you don't want a headache.
>>750710395>people haven't used this brand new thing for 5 years already>I'm very smart based
>>750712335>add simple new mechanicscan you give some examples of what you've been able to do and to what games?
>>750710395If a game has modding tools, you can install it, connect Claude to the folder via the desktop app or a terminal, and you can basically do whatever the fuck you want. You just need to provide explicit specifications and instructions, or you'll get either something you didn't want or something that doesn't work. So, you still need to have a basic understanding of software development to get somewhere with it. Also, be prepared to spend some money, or you'll spend more time waiting for the 5-hour usage limits to refresh than getting anything done. You can avoid paying if you have the patience to set up local inference and a robust loop (assuming you have the hardware for it; I have a 5070 Ti and I'd consider it sort of the minimum to get something worthwhile running offline).
>>750710395>I see a lot of discussion about AI modding here and the endless possibilities that it offers, but the only evidence that ever get posted hereIf you played any video game with an active modding scene you'd be aware of what's going on if you mentally filter out chinese and slavic mods, so I'm going to assume you don't actually play any video games if you're asking this
>>750712759How do you make the distinction here? A game "made by AI" was still designed, conceptualized and prompted by humans
>>750710395It's all lies, every time someone posts about it I tell him to make a mod to turn the MC on Control 1 hot since nobody did it yet and nobody ever delivers
>>750713287>If you played any video game with an active modding sceneI haven't, not lately, but that's precisely why I made this thread. AI assisted modding for already moddable games is pretty straightforward; what I'm much more interested in is the potential for AI to CREATE modding scenes for games that never really had one.
>>750713651Those mashups you see now are bullshit smoke and mirrors. The most obvious thing I can think of is VR mods. We got games like Titanfall 2, Farcry 2, and F.E.A.R. Someone managed to add dual wield to Hitman World of Assassination after 10 years.I think modding scenes for unofficial games will take awhile to blow up. If it's not on Steam Workshop or Nexus it's basically invisible. Then you got Discord groups you have to join to download mods or lone Githubs of what people are creating.
>>750712978I added a teleportation mechanic in an indie platformer called The Big Catch Tacklebox. You would hold a button and aim somewhere to flash in that location. Extremely easy to do with AI. I also gave a functioning gun to the character that can damage enemies, it mechanically works but the animation of him pointing the gun is very jank and would require some polish.
