You can hold some anonymous poll in your local internet echo chamber and say that your game of choice is the best one, but different people will prefer different styles of games, which invites contrarianfags. Also, I've never played a game and thought "This is the best RPG of all time." I would simply play a game, enjoy the game, make weird headcanon storylines whilst playing the game. Then I would proceed to play another game. All the while enjoying both. Even games I would drop, I'd usually enjoy for the time I spent playing them. Never once ranked them. Just enjoyed the journey. Then moved on.

>>750710823its not the polar opposite. in morrowind you basically have no discernable backstory and you make it up yourself. the only backstory you have is that you were chosen by the emperor because of vibes and how you can fit into the plan of manufacturing you as a prophecy fulfilling person. its literally the Paul story from dune. your backstory is something you the player can make up in your head. all we know is youre a prisoner and youre now free.

Your entire character is written out for you and there is no lee way. On top of that you have far less agency as a player becuasr you have defined morals.
>>750712860Eh, I'd say having a more or less fixed role and only having options as to how you play that role is still an RPG so long as you do it heavily through stats and build decisions. The more action your gameplay is, the more it falls back on you being able to fully define your character to have roleplay.
