Any anons got one? Any recommendations?
I'm personally thinking of picking one up myself but I can't choose between the various dual screen ones
>>
Dual screen ones are utter shit until someone puts a resistive touchscreen there.
>>
>>750706207
put some wrap on the screen to emulate your plastic touching autism

I like the RP Nova. It's good for emulating up through the original XBOX. I think people are working on the 360 emulation, but it's apparently not great right now.
>>
No, fuck off. All of them are garbage.
Buy some fucking ads already.

I got the RG DS Plus a month ago.
I can not recommend it because the bottom screen came a bit loose off the casing after only a couple weeks of playtime (and no touchcreen games, just regular gameplay with buttons only), but I'd be lying if I said it hasn't been a hell of a lot of fun. It still works perfectly, but it's disappointing build-quality wise and it triggers my autism.
Can't really complain about the price though, you get what you pay for if not more.
>>
>>750705994
Get AYN devices (Odin/Thor) if you want quality stuff.
>>
>>750707634
AYN and Retroid are the same company
>>
>>750705994
>Have a Steam Deck from before the price surge and don't need to worry about these hella gay cope devices
Remember if it's running android it's not worth it
>>
>>750705994
I bought a $30 controller for my old phone and it runs everything up to switch 1 games
>>
>>750707981
the whole point of a handheld is to be pocketable and mobile, the steam deck is fucking massive, same for the switch and all those other handheld pcs, when you need to stuff it in a bag its not really a handheld as far as im concerned and basically every major player from nintendo to sony abandoned that idea and now we only have chinkhelds, and most of them are great if you like retro games
>>
>>750706838
that won't fix the lag
>>
>>750705994
all the dual screen ones are retarded since you can get a used 3ds for the same price and mod it

>>
Got a vita and a DS.
>>
>>750707981
>>750708112
You're both right.
Steam Deck is nice for gaming in bed or on the couch at home.
Small chinkhelds are nice for throwing in your bag and taking them to your parents, your gf, the doc or to work.

Some people are fucking stupid
>>

We get it, you are a poorfag.
>>
>>750708464
Do you play them?
>>
>>750708112
I always felt that the pocketable aspect was a marketing meme. virtually no one is going about their day running errands while EDC'ing a handheld console. the opportunity to play it practically never arises.
>>
>>750708772
I can tell that your IQ is poor which probably means that you yourself are poor and probably just larping as a richfag. On an anonymous video game board no less!

What's the next cheapest thing from an R36S that has wifi and/or bluetooth?

Not even remotely the same thing

I throw this POS in my pockets and whip it out literally everywhere I have to wait more than 5 minutes
>>
>>750707880
I remember there was a big deal with the RP5 where people were begging for Xbox layout because it'd be a cheaper and even more performant version of an existing AYN handheld with the same general profile. For whatever fucking reason Retroid's owner thought nobody would care that the sole Playstation layout brand would choose Xbox layout instead and ate crow and started offering Playstation layout as an additional SKU.
>>
>>750708904
You probably want either a Mangmi Air X, AYANEO Pocket Air Mini, or an old stock Retroid Pocket 4 Pro

4 Pro is the most powerful of these off the top of my head, can do Gamecube/Wii/PS2
>>
>>750705994
retroid duo is your best bet at the moment unless you want to wait for reviews of the RGDDS to come out
just keep in mind that if you're getting one to mainly play DS and 3DS games, you're better off getting original hardware, especially for DS.
DSIs are still pretty cheap as well.
>>750707880
same parent company, different teams
I think their offices are in the same building even

Odin 2 family just got LineageOS Support. Worth upgrading because it enables 165hz on the Odin 2 Portal.

Retroid Pocket 6 and Nova as well. Which is fucking crazy to me.
How's LineageOS these days?
>>
>>750709503
so you're just using it for streaming? in that case you might as well buy the cheapest handheld with a screen and controls you like
>>
>r36s as my ghetto cheap GBA and SNES games player
>Steam Deck (bought pre price increase) as my big boy handheld that can run Skyrim for 2 hours and emulate Switch games
>possibly dead hacked 3ds that I haven't checked in over two years
What else do I need? Am I set as a handheld gamer?
>>
>>750710112
>What else do I need?
Time to play all these games
>>
will only care about chinkhelds when they have resistive bottom screens
wake me up when they stop being gay
>>
>>750710604
I dunno what the mental block is about resistive screens with these chinkhelds, I'm guessing it's either parts availability or there not being an Android stack for resistive touch interfaces
>>
>>750710848
Because it's old tech, nobody makes them anymore and if they did get a hold of them, they'd be low resolution 240p screens.
>>
>>750710604
>when they have resistive bottom screens
Literally never because nobody is making them
>>
>>750710604
Is this fucking Triti?
>>
I play with the Ayn Odin 3. It's pretty good glad I bought it. It plays pretty much everything.
>>
>>750710604
Why do you fags want to emulate DS shit so go damn much?
>>
>>750709687
It's basically stock Android but more up to date. Portal is stuck on Android 13 but Lineage is on 17. Vulkan become the default renderer on newer Android and you can force the latest Mesa Turnip on it instead of using an ancient OpenGL driver or whatever it shipped it.
>>
>>750711751
the devices are advertised with dual screens like the DS
why wouldn't you expect a DS game to run well on it
when DSes and 3Dses become harder to find or repair these chinkhelds could very well be a better, more customizable replacements with less proprietary hardware to worry about.
sadly the lack of resistive screens make these very bad for DS games
you won't see me seething against the devices that look like GBCs or GBAs
>>
>>750712126
>the devices are advertised with dual screens like the DS
A small subset of them. Most just have one screen which is either 4:3 or 16:9.
>>
Slightly offtopic but I feel in love with offbrand chink tech
>best sounding and feeling keyboard i ever owned
$40
>logitech superlight clone with a decent sensor
$20
>treadmill to use with my standing desk
$75
Office chair that has all the eronomics options you would ever want, 50%+ cheaper than cheapest branded alternative
$270
>home appliances
-50% off

What's the point of buying anything on the western market if aliexpress is one click away and delivery these days is crazy fast?
>>
i bought the retroid pocket nova and it was alot of fun but one day after like 3 weeks it completely stopped charging and would shut off when you plugged it in so i dont think i'll be buying another one
>>
>>750712176
yeah, that's why I typed
>you won't see me seething against the devices that look like GBCs or GBAs
or just don't have dual screens. it's somewhat autistic
even on my real 3DS these days I play more GBA and SNES games than dual screen stuff
but if I want to play kid icarus uprising or rhythm heaven on a whim, I can. it's a shame chinkhelds aren't there yet and likely never will since these screens aren't as popular anymore.
>>
>>750712194
It's near impossible to return stuff and the scam chance is still there. I bought a nor flasher from AliExpress and it turns out they make and sell fakes and it's near impossible to tell the difference unless you deal with pcb work.

Because the games are good...? Is that not reason enough?
>>
>>750705994
>I can't choose between the various dual screen ones
Pick your compromises.
Thor:
>most powerful dual screen handheld that can play anything up to some modern PC games
>mismatched screen refresh rates that increase the input latency
>tiny bottom screen with a weird aspect ration
>terrible ergonomics
>if you buy it now, you will get it on your next life
Thor Lite:
>obsoleted by the Duo
RG DS Plus
>perfect for DS
>cheap
>great custom firmware
>bad input latency
>can emulate up to DS and PS1, but not much more
Duo Lite:
>terrible performance
>it struggles to run even DS games on stock firmware
>overpriced
>with custom firmware, it can play some 3DS games
Duo:
>amazing 120hz oled screens
>initially underwhelming performance for the price, but with proper drivers, it can now emulate most 3DS games at 3x or 4x and even some Switch games
>low input latency close to the original hardware
>even with custom drivers, the performance is not that good for the price
>bad sticks?
>dpad top, which is bad if you're a nigger tranny
RG DDS (what we know so far):
>great performance, just behind the Thor
>perfect scaling and aspect ratio for 3DS
>built-in mesh fiber tip stylus
>small 60hz 720p ips screens on a $300+ device
>even if it has the power for much more, 3DS is limited to 3x due to the screen resolution
>top screen will display black bars on any console other than 3DS
>overpriced as hell
>>
I got the retroid pocket flip 2 a couple months ago, its a comfy device, it manages up to PS2 well, some switch titles work fine as well, metroid dread for example runs flawlessly. You can use the website emuready if you wanna see comparability reports for any particular games on any of the devices you may be looking at.
>>
>>750715065
Oh yeah also forgot to mention that some people report that the hinge can fail on this device, mine has been fine, supposedly later revisions of this device have fixed that issue as well. for hinged devices in general just open them from the center of the screen, don't leave it half open, and don't be a retard with it.
>>
>>750712309
it was alot of fun too i was playing alot of neo geo, dreamcast/naomi, gamecube, and fortnite on it
