I returned after like a decade out and imo it's far better nowadays. I remember feeling this way when I stopped though, not sure what has changed. Played through cyberpunk which I thought was incredible, didn't like Witcher 3 much and then got darktide and battlefield 6 with my friends.It's waaaay cheaper than in the past, I'm getting 4k 120fps silent heatless gaming through GFN at $200 a year. Map packs don't seem to be a thing anymore because companies just make their money from skins which you don't need to buy and imo the best part is crossplay, I use GFN, another uses the xbox cloud, a couple use PS5 and a couple use trad PC. We can all play together.

For me it's because I live with a permanent sense of guilt/shame in my head for "wasting time" and it ruins my enjoyment of games. I just always feel like I should be doing something that helps myself even though I can't identify what or why it would be any better than video games. Like learn an instrument? Read philosophy? Draw or paint? But I can't see the point either. So I just turn on a game, play it depersonalised for 20 minutes with this feeling, turn it off, browse /v/ for an hour, repeat. I already go to the gym, it doesn't help (but I do love running, it's like the only thing I actually enjoy).
