I remember getting into an argument with a friend who said Kenny doesn't leave you for just one disagreement. I played the entire game with him, only refusing to kill the old man and standing by him every other time.
>"Lee... when I think about the times I needed you, you weren't there."
He just got uppity and blew me off after that. I STILL see threads online full of Kenny defenders gaslighting people over how stupid this is. Something about Kenny having a wife and kid makes normies treat him differently I swear.

I can't tell of this is lazy writing or if the implication here by the devs is killing your spouse for cheating is understandable. Very bizzare.

>>750705532
that's not what Kenny said, when I told him that he said something akin to
>Ok fine, but if it comes to a vote on who gets to come on the RV that will matter.
if you're in better standing for Kenny he might say something different, but he's clearly not 100% ok with it and if Lilly is the one who tells him he is pissed. and Kenny obviously doesn't represent whatever the game devs own personal opinions are the game is very critical of Kenny's character
>>
>>750705532
The game and Lee himself very much hate what happened. But he killed the guy she was cheating him on, not her.
And the game also makes it very obvious it was more on the spur of the moment and not something Lee actually planned. He probably just wanted to hurt the guy and accidentally killed him.
He even instantly surrendered himself instead of trying to run away.
>>
>>750705756
Lee is a murderer and the protagonist of the story. The story clearly paints Lee as a guy who just made a bad choice in a moment of weakness. The problem is, murdering a guy because your wife fell out of love isn't some forgivable crime like stealing a car is. By the end of the game I'm just supposed to go "You're a good man, Lee" because he was nice to a kid?

If you wrote a story told from the pov of a killer, that's not any indication of you advocating for murder. If you, however, insist through the whole story that your killer protagonist is actually a really nice dude who made a whoopsy and redeems himself in the end, that's gonna raise some eyebrows.

Maybe I'm being stubborn but I just can't forgive criminals.
>>
>>750705117
Not a thing, you have to do CPR on Larry AND pull up Ben at the watchtower for Kenny to not automatically go with you if you did everything else correct. And all you need to convince him is to say Clem is your family.

Kenny's actual problem is that he's a loudmouth but his bravado is in big part a facade, he is not as assured in anything he's doing as he's pretending, that's what the Shawn discussion at the pharmacy is about, he feels immense guilt about being a coward at that moment, and if Lee refuses to help him kill Larry, he thinks he fucked up again and becomes hateful towards himself and Lee. And for man who takes refuge in hatred after experiencing trauma, of course he's not going to be a saint after losing his wife and kid.

>>750706336
I wonder because when he is punching Andy, one of the cannibal farm guys, I think there is a shot of him looking at his reflection in the puddle and it feels like the game is trying to do a "Lee won't make that mistake again" kind of thing so Lee potentially punched the cheating guy to death

Kidnapped with her sister, used to not like killing even walkers and was forced to become a hardened soldier and kill her sister, developed an obsessive attachment to the Delta to cope with her guilt, then got bitten and knew her time was over so she fell off the deep end and tried to take Tenn with her to the afterlife so they could be all reunited. A really tragic character, and she likely could have been saved eventually had things gone a bit better, she was just a broken person who had to suffer the traumatic loss of her new "family" then the imminence of death.

>>
My biggest gripe with Telltale and TWD specifically is that there really is no way to save or directly alter the story. If a character is written to die, they will fucking die, so you're incentivized to make the "right" choice and not decide naturally.

Leftism rots brains. They're obsessed with spreading "the message" 24/7, so anything you say or write is interpreted through neo-marxist scripture, and anything not in perfect accordance with it is heresy. It's why they can't even make decent representations of us when they try to insult or strawman us, what actual chud says stuff like "I dislike minorities and non-heterosexual normative people!", they say "Fuck niggers and fags lmao". That and their purity spiraling leads to things like picrel.

Yes, and this was such a misallocation of resources. The guy not only threatens Clem and has clearly lost it after losing Francine, he also grabs Gabe and puts a gun to his head for no reason, and if you don't choose anything he shoots you. It's not le Clem bias, every rational person would shoot this fucker for threatening children and trying to sell as a captive a teenage girl to a group with people like Badger in it.

Three or more disagreements - Hate

I'm fine with that, but the thing that really bugs me is when you can immediately tell when a character has become deterministic. Like a character will be so involved with the story, but then as soon as they have a potential death scene all of a sudden their character is way less involved and sometimes they don't even bother animating them. Like Nick can die in TWD s2 ep2 and then his roles in the next couple episodes are very small he gets like a couple lines and in the group scenes his face is completely neutral like they don't even animate his facial expressions. Same thing happened with Sarah she avoids death in early ep4 and then she gets this really awkward moment with Bonnie where they don't really animate her

a character like Carley is the gold standard for deterministic character, although even for her and Doug you can still see it by how they are both kept out of the bulk of ep2

The big issue with S2 is that they changed writers literally every episode, so one writer really wanted to develop Nick and Sarah, while the next one just wanted them dead. It's why Sarah at first learns to use a gun, then it never comes up again. For Nick though, fuck this piece of shit, I'm glad he died in pain.

Kenny was correct about Larry, he was fucking dead, without meds and proper medical care it’s impossible to save someone from a cardiac arrest

Lee entretaining the delusions of Lily was going to get everyone killed, and you choosing to not help him forces him to be the bad guy in everybody’s eyes, and even after the locker Kenny reputation and sense of morality never recovers, he doubts himself from time to time while also resenting you for not backing him up when it matter the most, mind you Backs you up the first two chapters in almost everything prior to the locker

Tldr: Kenny was right both about the locker and about being pissed at (you)
>>
>>750710440
Correct, but retards will never admit it. The walker earlier in the episode jumping Katjaa was warning you about this, that one can turn and instantly jump you and move around, so any pansy "just be ready bro" tactic won't work, if Larry turns and moves, they're all dead, and he was certifiably going to die. Giving Lilly 30 more or less seconds to mourn wouldn't change jack shit about her feelings towards everything, but it could kill the entire group.
>>
>>750710440
>>750711246
Chest compressions can save someone experiencing heart failure, if you do enough compressions as Lee you trigger an animation from Larry where it looks like he takes a breath. And obviously the game rubs your face in how much of a fucking hypocrite Kenny is considering in the next episode he ignores Duck who has a 100% chance of becoming a zombie and if you fail to convince him to stop the train Duck starts killing a bunch of people. Also this idea Kenny has a right to be a pissy little bitch about Lee being unreliable, what about Kenny he is unreliable in so many different situations he is the last person you want to have your back
>>
>>750711616
Larry has a condition that specifically needs meds, he couldn't get off the ground in the pharmacy without them, and he was fully conscious the entire time. Larry's mouth moving could be anything, we know from his medical history there is 0% chance he could survive, he entered cardiac arrest, which is much worse than "just" a heart attack, and CPR can only prolong the inevitable in case of cardiac arrest.

>fucking hypocrite Kenny
That's not really hypocrisy though. He's just heartbroken and can't accept the traumatic impending death of his son, and his son is just a kid, and they're not trapped in a room with him, and have actual weapons, he is not an immediate threat.

> if you fail to convince him to stop the train Duck
That's a joke ending though, same as the dancing walkers in S3, Lee wouldn't just stand there and let himself get tackled by a 9 year old.

>what about Kenny he is unreliable in so many different situations he is the last person you want to have your back
If he doesn't like you yeah, but if he likes you, he's one of the best to have around discounting protagonists.
>>
>>750704935
Kenny is a great flawed character. He's usually right for the wrong reasons or wrong for the right reasons. It's great that this character would be untrustworthy in any other story is shown to be the only character with any amount of fight in them. Everyone else would be dead if Lee, Kenny or Clem didn't save their asses time after time.
>>
>>750711906
Of course it is hypocrisy, that's the whole point of it. The game even foreshadows it when Kenny is shitting on Lee for not being man enough to do the hard thing, and Lee replies with something like
>You talk a big game, but if it was your family would you be 'man enough' to do the hard thing?
obviously setting up the plot of ep3. Because it's true, it was the easiest thing in the world to kill Larry the second he hit the ground meanwhile he let his wife cradle his zombie kid. The Game Over scene may have been exaggerated but it isn't triggered by some weird interaction, it wasn't an Easter Egg. Obviously first thing Duck would do is rip Katjaa's neck out, Chuck already told you he doesn't have it in him to kill a kid, Ben is useless, Clem was vulnerable.

I'm pretty sure you only trigger the animation if you do enough compressions on Larry which may have been the games way of telling you he could have been stabilized. Lilly tells you he has survived 'worse than this.' Killing him was still the safest/"right" choice but I would argue narratively it is better to try and save Larry, I think it fits Lee who is trying to redeem himself from murder trying to save this man who hates him so much.

And Kenny's temperamental alliance is exactly why he is so unreliable, if you don't follow his commands and aren't useful to him he WILL leave you to die. And even before that we saw how he ran away from Shawn. And other moments like when he clumsily sneaks up behind Molly while she's talking to Lee, falls on his ass and accidentally discharges a round which brings the horde to them. Kenny is even more unreliable in S2 like when he thought it was a good idea to jump Carver's men at the start of ep2
>>
>>750713204
>the practice of professing beliefs, feelings, or virtues that one does not hold or possess; falseness.
Hypocrisy implies a continued intent to profess something one does not practice. All Kenny did was eliminate an immediate threat because he was the only one around with the capacity to do it (as Lee was recovering from a severe concussion and someone needed to hold Lilly anyway). In that situation, the family member didn't have to do anything and was breaking down the entire time, the same thing happened with Duck, Kenny couldn't handle it and someone else had to take charge.

>I'm pretty sure you only trigger the animation if you do enough compressions on Larry
Yeah but again it could be anything, and IRL you will 100% die of cardiac arrest if the only help you get is CPR. It is not survivable, and his condition is pre-established as extremely severe.

>And Kenny's temperamental alliance is exactly why he is so unreliable
He is temperamental but almost always right, and it's just a character trait of him that he dislikes inaction and only practices it when he's deeply depressed.

>if you don't follow his commands and aren't useful to him he WILL leave you to die.
Pretty big exaggeration, he is open to other ideas if you have another plan, it's just that most of the time either the alternative is stupid (staying at the motel, letting Larry kill you, letting Lilly the control freak hated by everyone be the unchecked dictator...) or he's breaking down due to a loved one's death just a few hours or days ago.

>Kenny is even more unreliable in S2 like when he thought it was a good idea to jump Carver's men at the start of ep2
Funnily enough, it actually would have worked if the others did so. Kenny's plan was stupid, but he knew Carver was going to kill them all anyway, and there were only 3 guards when they exited the truck, they easily could have overpowered them, gotten their guns, and made their escape.

>>
>>750713626
>Hypocrisy implies a continued intent to profess something one does not practice
Yeah in this case doing the 'hard thing' to keep the group safe, the game devs obviously wrote it so Kenny was in the same situation but with people he actually cares about. Kenny wasn't cognitive enough to know he couldn't handle it and let someone else, Lee, do what needed to be done he was telling the group what to do and yelling at anyone that told him otherwise. Lee needs to confront him harshly to get him to stop. Which is obviously understandable

>if you don't follow his commands and aren't useful to him he WILL leave you to die.
>Pretty big exaggeration
the scene I was thinking of specifically was in the pharmacy in ep3, if you don't help him kill Larry he will leave you to die. and that's despite at this point Lee has saved him and his family multiple times, specifically last episode when he saves Katjaa and Duck from the St. Johns. and that moment was similar to when he ran away from Shawn in that kind of situation you can't bet on Kenny being there for you. and the game lampshades this with this dialogue
>I can't believe you trusted Molly with the battery, we hardy know her!
>Didn't she save your life?
>Pfft yeah, but what has she done for me lately?
that's the kind of mentality he has. Same when he turns saving Clem into less saving a little girl he's known for months into a test on how useful Lee was to him
>>
>>750714595
and i want to add I actually love Kenny and I think his character arc is improved when there is friction between Lee and Kenny, and I think the negative aspects of his character is why he is so engaging. Rather than him being a dindu

>the scene I was thinking of specifically was in the pharmacy in ep3, if you don't help him kill Larry he will leave you to die.
I know, but it being the only scene of its kind and not even mentioned after, I know it sounds like a cop out but it feels more like a forced interaction to make your choice matter. But even if we consider it as appropriate, it'd fall into his consistent pattern of falling into inaction when he's depressed, and him feeling this hatred against Lee at this point if you didn't help kill Larry isn't because Kenny wants you to suck his dick, but because he feels guilty and doesn't know how to process that healthily.

>how useful Lee was to him
Again, that's the misreading of his character I just explained above. Surface level reading prevents people from understanding characters like Kenny or Violet (or even Louis, though it works in his favor in popularity contests).

>Pfft yeah, but what has she done for me lately?
Assholish line, but it feels like a quip he made just to have something to say, and again he's at his lowest point and paranoid because of the stranger on the radio stalking them. Kenny when traumatized falls into inaction and hatred, that's his lowest moments, but they're not persistent traits, it's just that shit tends to happen to him on a very small time frame so we see a lot of his lowest points bad moments.

Nice picrel btw

Yeah I can feel that, his flaws are indeed why he's so interesting because he actually fucks up unlike our protagonists who are just perfect. It's just that Kenny gets so much love because his good side is so overwhelmingly good (he's skilled, strong, will sacrifice himself without hesitation for those he considers family, and he actually moves the plot forward which matters in S2 where nobody does anything), that when someone hyperfocuses on his negatives, it's often some unhinged redditor (the biggest Kenny hater on the game's reddit being a literal crippled gypsy by his own admission).

Jane cements herself as an irredeemable bitch at that specific moment, she knows she's lost the fight, she knows Kenny is seconds away from lethally stabbing her, and instead of revealing AJ is alive, something that would immediately defuse the situation, she says "Clem... help!" and hopes that Clem will shoot Kenny while she can't even see what Clem is doing (my Clem is not even picking up the gun, she's just watching).

Jane never wanted to "prove a point", she's a proven liar who wanted to get away with murdering Kenny and adopting Clem as a replacement sister. She didn't give a shit about Kenny or AJ and wanted them both dead, notice that when she lives, she doesn't even say he's alive, Clem knows he is because he screams, I fully believe that bitch would have let him die in the car if he didn't make himself known.

Based video. Season 3 is the weakest, but it's not overall bad, the hatred comes from the lies before release and Clem being relegated to the background. S4 is pretty woke in its character design but other than that it's genuinely my favorite season, I love so many things about it, it's absolutely worth it to play it.

>kenny is ok with you leaving him alone after jane
>kenny begs you to go into the big safe town without him
>kenny doesnt blame you for getting him fucking paralyzed just before some zombies come to eat him
realest nigga

>>750715698
S3 is absolute slop, S4 is an okay ending and is basically just meant to wash your mouth of S3.
Leaving everything at S2 is the best with the Kenny ending.

i like javi but it should have been gabe who got shot instead of the girl
would have improved s3 immensely

Snow is an absolute cunt and is Willingham's waifu, he literally had to write in magic to get Bigby and Snow together in the comics because they had zero chemistry otherwise.
I'm glad Tellale gives you the choice to tell Snow to fuck off at every single turn.

>I know, but it being the only scene of its kind and not even mentioned after
I don't think so, I think this is a pretty consistent pattern. He leaves Shawn, and if you don't help him kill Larry when you're attacked by Danny he is cowering in the stall and then leaves you to die in the pharmacy next ep. And you can say this trait is why he is unsure if he should help you find Clem or not.

Although you can say it is contradicted by how he saves Lee at the end of ep1 even if you don't do anything for him, he says something like
>No one gets left behind... Even if they are an asshole.
So I do think Kenny wants to be the kind of person that will save you, but his negative impulses or cowardice can prevent him in the moment. And he does feel shame like if he doesn't save you from Danny he gives Lee a sorrowful look, or his angst on Shawn. And these moments plays into the finale of his arc when he stays behind trying to save Ben, conveniently around the same age as Shawn, who represents everything he hates.

i do think overall you miss out on some nuance if you're just buddies with Kenny the whole time, but I might just be biased for my first playthrough. I like the up and down rollercoaster with your dynamic with Kenny

>i do think overall you miss out on some nuance if you're just buddies with Kenny the whole time
For a TV show where you want drama, probably, as much as I would like Rick and Shane to get along for example, the writers obviously wanted a building of tension ending in a final confrontation.

It makes things simpler to be buddies with Kenny, but with knowledge of the future, he is right on almost everything so it makes it very easy to side with him. Lilly is a bitch and will go crazy no matter what, Larry must be killed, the St Johns were dangerous, taking stuff from the Stranger was necessary to survive, the motel wasn't safe...

>I like the up and down rollercoaster with your dynamic with Kenny
Makes for big drama culminating in the train scene, but having them be buddies and Lee needing to support his best friend falling into despair and being able to inspire him enough even through all the horrible shit to get the "You've always been there for me Lee" speech is also great. I won't argue either version as being better for storytelling, though yours is a bit more nuanced.

Luv Clem, simple as

Mariana surviving would've been so much better yeah, Gabe served zero purpose in the story and David would've been more protective over his daughter.
In general S3 is best played roleplaying as Javi. Narratively it works better when Javi doesn't give a shit about Clem, some random girl he just met, over his own family.

Wretched little pedophile troon

Wasn't this a few minutes later he says that Lee probably knows lockpickin because he's black?

Watching Janefags instantaneously evaporate when it was revealed she hangs herself in s3 was so fucking funny.

>Kenny thinks the St Johns are hiding something behind the door
>tells Lee, mentions the urban thing
>Lee lockpicks the door, gets found by Danny and goes to eat dinner
>discovers Mark got his legs cut off, gets downstairs to warn everyone, gets knocked out
>wakes up in the meat locker,Larry has a heart attack, Kenny bashes his brains in with the salt lick

>>750714595
S2 would be way better if you had more crazy options as Clem

In all fairness, the zombies all just decided to fuck off and stay quiet behind the fully blood-covered doors until Ben revealed he had the hatchet, which activated their plot trolling.

My issue was just with the Duck choice right at the start because the zombies were clearly way farther away from Duck compared to I think it was Ben. Saving Ben before Duck would have made it way easier, quicker, and safer to save Duck without any casualties, but instead Kenny wants you to let multiple people die to go after Duck first who isn't in any immediate danger just yet. I can't even remember if you could justify it to him or not, I think he just ignored talking about it.

>>750705625
Because even if he's an idiot I'm not just letting a person die because he's a liability. I'll leave him to his own devices and part ways amicably after telling him why and have him fend for himself but I'm not letting him fall to his death because he made dumb decisions. Let his dumb decisions get him killed on his own terms, don't put that on me to kill him myself when I could help him. At no point was he ever intentionally trying to screw over the group, his choices simply led to a snowball effect where it led to a bad decision down the road.

Even ignoring that, Lee's character himself generally seems to be fairly selfless and the fact he does what he does for Clementine in particular leads to that thought process even more. I personally don't think he'd give up on that idiot even with the mistakes he made whereas Kenny wants to cut any liability loose at a moment's notice just because it might harm the overall group regardless if that person might learn from it. Kenny is more like Shane in this respect where he doesn't tolerate mistakes except Shane is way more off the handle and Kenny can at least be talked to to justify your actions instead of wholesale writing everyone off.

Kenny did nothing wrong, you probably sided with the cunt baby killer too

I must have rolled insane rng because I got the "you're a bastard Lee, but you're my bastard!" type dialog and he came to help find Clem.

He'll come no matter what if you tell him Clementine is your family.
Omid+Christa do the same as long as you show bite, and Ben will always come if you guilt him over Clementine being his only supporter.

arguably, all telltale games have characters or moments where no good choice is possible because they are acting in forced ways. it feels less like how the characters 'actually' are and more about how their current writer is trying to force the player into tough situations at the time.

the best moments of the games are those where you're not forced, and don't feel there is a tough choice to be made.
