Do you guys remember when TOTK came out and there were all of these hysterical articles about how the game’s Gmod Nuts and Bolts physics were some sort of miracle tech innovation?
>>
>>
>>750704094
I remember the discord being really blown away by it.

Is new and innovate for Nintendo retards because they don't play any other systems.
>>
>>750704094
>console plebs amazed at a decade or two old technology
That's a too common occurrence to be remembered.
>>
>>750704094
Name 10 other games that did it.
>>
>>750704094
I'm actually shocked this doesn't get called out more on /v/enis chat.

When Breath of the Wild came out, tendies and articles acted like nintendo just created the first ever open world game.

I think there are people who don't play anything else and have no idea there is a world outside of nintendo. Do they tell themselves there is nothing there? Or that everything sucks? I'm not sure, it's very strange. I haven't even emulated tendie games, but from the outside looking into their walled garden, it looks like random, boring slop you'd find on steam every other week.

They do this shit all the time with COD and GTA as well.
Paid shills selling to retards who barely play games.

That's all it is

You seem to look past the context of the article, being that they were surprised by the fact that the game was pretty much completely bug-free

Reset the clock
>>
>>750704094
nigga is still obssesed over it 3 years later
>>
>>750704094
I remember it, yeah. I have to admit that the physics running as smoothly as they did on Switch 1 hardware was impressive, but people acting like the very idea of contraptions made of player-assembled physics-based parts was nearly unthinkable were transparently shilling, yes.
>>
>>750704094
Very ridiculous to say when the fucking plane disapear after a few hundred meters and you't can't actually build anything that stays
>>
>>750704094
it was impressive in a "how does this run on a children's tablet?" kind of way
still ran like garbage though
>>
>>750708148
>I have to admit that the physics running as smoothly as they did on Switch 1
What? Activating god hand would fucking lock your fps to 20, if you fused more than 2-3 things together your game would chug like crazy
Only emulators and Switch 2 can run it properly
>>
>>750708542
You're overstating it a little, I never built anything beyond like a dozen parts but the game still ran OK with a jiggly physics contraption on screen. Maybe I'm easily impressed because I recall playing Source games on a PC that could barely handle them.
>>
>>750704821
Well Nintendo is the apple of gaming
>>
>>750708402
it ran great for me (I emulated it)
>>
>>750704094
It was very strange, yes... Thanks for reminding me. TOTK was good but fucking hell, man.
>>

You're full of shit the game almost never lags
>>
>>750704094
best game ever made
>>
>>750704094
you won't understand or appreciate why a game like totk was able to run on the switch without exploding was incredible unless you are a developer and are familiar with certain concepts in terms of game development and design
>>
>>750713794
GARRYS MOD WAS ABLE TO DO THIS IN 2005. WITH A PENTIUM 4.
>>
this game was just botw 1.5
>>
It was crazy they gave this all these 10s and pretended like people were crazy for saying it was just alright, not this miracle they were claiming it to be.
>>
>>750704094
>>750704105
I certainly can't believe or understand how they spent six years producing that turd
>>
>>750714153
You wouldn't get it. Too low IQ.
>>
>>750704094
Now the game is barely discussed, especially in comparison to botw. (DLC never sells a fraction of what the base game does)
>>
>>750704776
It's not like it was the first Nintendo open world game either, Xenoblade X was absolutely poppin
But it's an RPG and was on the Wii U so those sorts of Mario and Zelda guys didn't play it
>>
>>750704094
Why would a modern game developer know anything about programming games?
>>
I love Nintendo, but Zelda was never good
>>
>>750714070
You exaggerate, but it kind of is a miracle that Totk exists. Just look around at all the other games at this time, there's nothing like Totk, this anomaly just popped out of nowhere.
>>
>>750704094
>hl2 tier physics and physics interactions are lostech now
>>
I found it funny that as vast as BotWs map was, it lacked a lot of depth and "Happening", in a way that felt like I was playing some old abandoned alternative MMO. TotKs response to that was to tack on more sandbox mechanics and add nothing in terms of depth to the map
>>
>>750714245
ToTK's audience sure is.
>>
>>750707976
>openairfag is a frogposter

lol
>>
>>750704094
Well yeah and it was all correct, the problem is it had little to no bearing on the actual gameplay itself. There was no reward or purpose for making neat vehicles or mechanisms.
>>
>>750715151
HL2 physics are rudimentary and archaic now.
>>
>>750715947
And yet virtually all nugames have barely any physics interactions. Interesting.
>>
>>750704094
I still can't wrap my head around how this is a real game
you guys how did they even make it
>>
>>750718563
What even is a video game? How do you make one?
>>
>>750704094
The game was only 16 GB and ran on shitty Switch hardware

Optimization is a lost art of most modern game devs
>>
>>750704094
>how the game’s Gmod Nuts and Bolts physics were some sort of miracle tech innovation?
The physics of TotK is way more advanced though, alongside with how much is being processed and rendered at the same time, while doing it so successfully and on limited hardware?
Yeah. That's extraordinary.
>>
The most hilarious part was that BOTW and TOTK Fans were like "these are for smart gamers, the old formula was shit and it was for babies." yet these same people literally cannot play Ocarina of Time without getting stuck. BOTW and TOTK kids actually complained to Nintendo that the great deku tree was too hard, and they had no idea that you had to shoot the ladder to progress.

It's a delicious irony.
>>
>>750716293
Interesting indeed, then along comes Totk that is borderline black magic.
>>

>>750704169
I hate journalists like you wouldn't believe
>>
>>750704094
I really hated that annoying ass jank mechanic.
>>
>>750704094
The impressive part was getting it to work without ever being overly complex or breaking. Nuts and Bolts required a separate screen to create vehicles and Gmod leans into unpredictability and bugginess as being part of the fun. We don't all know the funny ragdoll sounds because they're a rare occurrence.
>>
>>750704776
BotW's innovation was letting you loose in the world and having the exploration of the world be the point of the game. So many people in November are going to trudge through the campaign of GTA 6 to get to the point where they have the resources to fuck around and have fun in the sandbox. BotW made the sandbox the game, you can do as much or as little of it as you want, outside of the tutorial area you are never prohibited from going anywhere and anywhere you go you can progress toward the overall objective of defeating Ganon. Ass Creed is not like this. Far Cry is not like this.

NINTENDOMINATION!
>>
>>750721159
>outside of the tutorial area you are never prohibited from going anywhere
That's not really true. There are constant invisible walls and flags that prevent you from going places unless you do it the """right""" way. Like trying to get into the gerudo city without crossdressing will immediately have you captured and thrown out, even if you sneak in under cover of darkness, a magic forcefield just insta-catches you.

Also, you're forbidden from going anywhere near the divine beasts unless you do the quests. even if you find a way to glitch to them, their collision doesn't exist, and what you see is just polygons without hit detection. Really badly made.
>>
>>750721557
>the game is a game
WOW
>>
>>750704094
The impressive aspect was it was functioning on such weak hardware without exploding, at least to me
>>
>>750721159
>letting you loose in the world and having the exploration of the world be the point of the game
Is that not every open world game? Is that not just Skyrim or Oblivion, or what the fuck ever else, this shit was never at all impressive to me
>>
The implessive part is the almost flawless presentation and performance, PC games are more complex, but they tend to be sloppier in the presentation.
>>
>>750721985
Yes, it is true that Breath of the Wild is most similar to Skyrim, but I don't know why someone would need to be sold on the merits of Skyrim if it was made by Nintendo. Being able to climb and glide are transformative additions to the genre.
>>
>>750721796
But you lied about it giving you complete agency and freedom. You're still chained to the story and you're not allowed to break it. Why can't you sneak into the gerudo city without dressing like a tranny?
>>
>>750708148
Except that was never what people were impressed about. It was:
1. This shit was running on a switch 1
2. The physics were incredibly stable and smooth

Thats it nigger! Even as a programmer I was impressed. Hell, I was impressed by mario galaxy when it first came out (my coworkers were too) and that shit was running on the wii.

The game itself was boring. But for what it was running on and as tight as the engine was, it was pretty impressive.

>Like trying to get into the gerudo city without crossdressing will immediately have you captured and thrown out
you can sneak in without crossdressing retard
>Also, you're forbidden from going anywhere near the divine beasts unless you do the quests. even if you find a way to glitch to them
there's quests associated with them, for setpieces and spectacle and "dungeons" (bleh). letting you loose to do whatever you want doesn't mean "the game has no main quest or story at all." what a retarded response
>>
>>750722464
You're also chained to the character and limitations of crafting, you just can't turn into dust and become one with the game so therefore you aren't really free at all. Even the game controller is limiting me so yeah.
>>
>>750722728
>you can sneak in without crossdressing retard
How? In BOTW at least there are massive infinitely high invisible walls that act as death flags that keep you from going inside.
>>
>>750722464
I didn't lie about anything lol, and the other anon didn't even say anything about "complete" agency and "freedom", you're probably that autist that keeps spamming about how he wants to leave the great plateau immediately.
>>
>>750704094
stay seething dumbass lmao
>>
>>750704094
I played it for 200+ hours at launch then never again. It was fun but I have no real desire to replay it.
>>

>COMPLETE FREEDOM IS LE GOOD

>>
>>750723006
So the game did its job
>>
>>750723074
>game
>complete freedom
pick one
>>
>>750723183
Other games in the genre can offer complete freedom, like Minecraft. I'm not even bound to the rules of the base game.

>want to travel to the nether without building a portal? Done
>want to dig through bedrock? Done
>want to bypass the sky limit that keeps me from going too high? Do I need to say it?

And this was a game nearly a decade before BOTW.
>>
>>750723369
>like Minecraft
lol that game doesn't offer anywhere near complete freedom, the movement options are terrible, you can't use a bed in the nether, when you die you drop all your shit, just the whole process of beating the game involves a high degree of tedium and lethargy
>>
>>750723121
I'd say so yeah. I went right from that to elden ring and I remember jumping off a cliff automatically thinking I still had a paraglider haha
>>
>>750723459
>the movement options are terrible, you can't use a bed in the nether, when you die you drop all your shit,
Can all be modified at the user's discretion, oftentimes without even needing mods.
>>
>>750704094
Very similar to what Apple do with their tech "innovations" like their new foldable phone.
Steal something and pretend they invented it. Works really well with retarded, cattle-ish, tech-illiterate fanbase
