To be fair Pikmin had a curse of only having new entries released on unpopular systems (GCN, Wii U) and once it finally got a chance on Switch it blew up so yeah they feel more confident about it now. Also helps having Miyamoto shill it.

They want pikmin to be their merchandise powerhouse. Nintendo has both pokemon and kirby under their wing and they make billions in merch. They also just so happen to be the only 2 series that aren’t theirs, so they don’t see a penny of those sales. Pikmin is their attempt at making a merch powerhouse, with the cute little critters who interact with real life. It’s why it gets a disproportionate amount of merch compared to their other series as well as a seat among their actual big series in spite of it being one of their lower-tier ip’s, as well as them being “hidden” (shoved) in places like the nintendo museum and universal
