Are there any games or VNs that recapture the feeling of the first chapter?

I just bought this on steam deck and started playing/reading. I watched it a few years ago on let's plays and it'll be fun re-experiencing it again myself on the deck. I'm on episode 1 and remember what a big slog it was getting through it but replaying it, it is more sluggish than I remember. Maybe it's because I already know the characters and the gist of the plot so I just want to get to the good parts. I also bought Higurashi which I've never read so I'm looking forward to it once I finish Umineko. Is the 7th Expansion mod important for Higurashi as well?
