How do YOU feel about Myst?
Never heard it of
>>750699795You're lying.
Bring me a red page.
>>750699963Why would you do that? Everyone knows Red= Evil. What are you? Some kind of retard?
>>750699747played it with friend back in the day and have fond memories of it.
It's atmosphere is top notch and eerie. Shame there's nothing else like out there that's actually good.
>>750699747I don’t.
>>750699747I like it. Mind bending kino. Even the fucking train level. Playing this back in the 90s, it was revolutionary. To me, Myst was the first game to take computer games into the mainstream. It was the first computer game that appealed to moms.
>>750699747The one video game that every grandma in the land actually had, endlessly loathed by REAL gamers because of it.
There's just something so aesthetically pleasing about that island.
>>750699747In my imagination it's a great game. Myst, Kings Quest, and Space Quest were a big part of my childhood. I have zero desire to play these kinds of games now though. To be honest the gameplay really fucking sucks in these puzzle games. Often there's a pixel-bitching element to them. There's little room for creativity. It's almost like that test question your teacher expected you to answer in her way even though you know she's wrong back in high school.
>>750700705I would want to see Atrus explaining to Catherine that the island he made for them to raise a family on has a spaceship, a huge clock, an observatory, some giant cogwheels, an old sailing boat but no kitchen, bedroom or bathroom.
I've looked for Myst's brand of surrealist environment elsewhere and nothing else has satisfied quite the same way.
>>750700961You didn't see those parts of the island because you didn't NEED to.
>>750699747I preferred PYST
>>750701247No you don't. Stop lying on the internet. Nobody likes PYST. It's a non-game.
>>750699747Is note-taking a required prerequisite to playing this game? Because honestly to me that seems like a novel experience for a video game in modern shitty faggot hellworld, don't think I've ever actually done that before..
>>750701639It's a puzzle game with a story that is slowly fed to you so it helps to take notes.
>>750699747Did it really need three remasters/remakes?
>>750699747Was a videogamist before Myst. Saw it explode in popularity and become the biggest selling game of all time. Played like 5 minutes of it at a computer display in a shop and decided it was not for me. I did play the 7th Guest which by all accounts is absolute fucking shit compared to Myst so one of these days I'll actually fucking play the thing for real, but the combination of puzzles and first person adventure game makes me think I'd miss a clicky somewhere and lose my fucking mind trying to solve a puzzle for 5 hours without realizing I was missing important pieces
>>750701958Probably. I dunno. I remember there being shitty little mistakes you could make that would irreversibly fuck your progression that weren't even necessarily the players fault.
>>750699747I like it but Riven is the superior Myst game
>>750699747Myst, best puzzlesRiven, best environmentsMyst 3, best overallMyst 4, best visualsUru, ruined the seriesMyst 5, haven't gotten working yet.
>>750699747I tried to play it as a little kid, but was too dumb. Is it worth revisiting?
What was his fucking problem?
>>7507026235 is ok. Not terrible but the worst in the mainline series. Relied on a drawing mechanic that didn't quite work. Riven is the GOAT though.>>750702840I'd say so if you like some exploration and puzzle solving. It's perfectly decent even today.
>>750703049someone asked the D'ni supremacist the race of his wife.
>>750703049He believed that Ages are created, not discovered, which has significant ethical implications for what kind of treatment the natives of his Ages are entitled to. That's the primary disagreement between him and Atrus.
>>750703049Name one thing he did wrong.
>>750703902He touched the fake linking book.
>>750701326it was funy
>>750703902I can name 233
>>750700961Wasn't she Moiety? She's probably used to being a savage rivershitter.
>>750701639It'll help the average person. Having played a lot of these kinds of games but only getting to the Myst series itself late, I didn't find it necessary for the first one. Riven, though? One hundred percent necessity.
>>750703902smoke frogs
>>750699747I spoiled all the endings when I found the folder with the QuickTime files
>>750706535I thought I still had the Order of the Sinking Star tab open when I read your post, and was very confused for a moment.
>>750699747>just play music>you know how to play piano, right? just do it
>>750699747I feel like I should try that "new Riven" game
>>750699747Should I?How hard is it really? I might be too retarded for it. I'm playing through the Witness and have done a few puzzles but only finished like 2 zones and I still feel my IQ is not high enough
>>750702623>Myst 3, best overallI had this on OG Xbox. Shit was so cash
>>750700961Atrus didn't write the Myst age, his grandmother did. Btw the Myst novels are pretty good (except the third one which I found a bit boring), they have some cool lore.
>>750708801I got filtered hard by the witness and had no difficulty with Myst.
>>750701639The devs sell notebooks on their site.
>>750708910 Gotcha, thank you anon
myst, more like pyst because i can't figure out this puzzle!
The setting and lore is kino.
I think anyone that spreads awareness of it should be killed. It's student shit. Worthless. Degenerate.
Best way to play Myst?
>>750708190Not only that, you need perfect pitch so you can match a sequence of sounds you hear to the keys you must play.
>>750709712The 2021 remake, which is full-3D and has controls that make sense. Better SFX too.
>>750710132The remake is fucking ass, completely disregards the art style and gives you the most bland looking environments. A big reason why people like these games are the aesthetic that aligns with the vibe. Play RealMyst, best of both worlds.
>>750710210You're a dork.
>>750699747I've liked Exile the most. Mostly, because it was the first one for me. Amateria really left an impression on me, especially final ride through the island. And I was afraid of Saavedro jumping out from somewhere to whack me throughout the whole game.Afterwards I've played 2, 1, 4, Uru and 5. And I think that 1 and 5 are the most meh out of them. 5 really suffers from 3d, even more than Uru.
>>750708867>Btw the Myst novels are pretty good (except the third one which I found a bit boring), they have some cool lore. The third is definitely the weakest.Coincidentally there's a Kickstarter running for updated, hardbound editions of the novels.https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cyanworlds/the-myst-trilogy-guild-of-writers-deluxe-collection
>>750699747I kind of like it
Uru was very rough and input delay is fucked, but idea of Relto age and your own library was great.
>>750700289there is riven myst 3 isn't too bad either but it feels more mechanical in a waymyst 1 actually feels like this real life minecraft server some guy fucked around with (which is exactly what it is)microprose published a Riven-like FMV game a year ago and it fucking bombed>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=465am6WKYrI
>>750701639if you play the remake it has a built-in system to make screenshots and annotate them.
>>750701958four actually>Myst (1993)>Myst Masterpiece (remaster, 1999)>realMyst (1st remake in real time, 2000)>realMyst Masterpiece (2nd remake in Unity, 2014)>Myst (3rd remake in Unreal 4, 2020)
>>750703307kekand don't ask about the race of his mother either
>>750716930>(remaster, 1999)iirc, the the underlying codebase is bespoke, so they really did just make the game five times.
>>750699747Are there any good modern puzzle adventure games?
>>750699747I only played the newest remake but I liked it. I'll play the riven remake someday.
Whenever I hear about this I think it's the WEG.
>>750699747>>750700434>It was the first computer game that appealed to momsI remember sitting with my mom and playing this when I was four or five as a second set of eyes to solve the puzzles. Riven too, but I think she gave up on that one after some time. Haven't replayed either one since
>>750699747Which version of Myst is best for a first timer? Masterpiece edition for $1 sounds very appealing but I don't want to miss anything if the newer versions provide anything new
>>750722121I personally liked the remakes but they definitely have a different feel to them.
>>750699747This game has like one real puzzle and otherwise just gives you all the answers. That's my slander out of the way. I like Myst a lot, as a series easily my favourite adventure games of all time.
bump
How about the craziest version of Myst... a fan recreation on the Marathon engine.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmsLVVDA_y4
