To normalfags it was super impressive, the most realistic graphics ever.To people aware that it's some png images and higher-poly characters using resources saved by doing that, not very.
>>750693075>impressiveI actually dont remember being very impressed with it, which I played it around launch. It was only much later when the whole remake old games because a thing I realized how much quality it is for a remake.in fact I vaguely remember being rather disappointed with the added content like lisa trevor not going anywhere and being a rather nothing burger side plot and disliking crimson heads. Then too RE1 was still in my memory.I played RE2 before 1 and only played RE1 in 99.
Unbelievably
>>750693075Visually, it was literally THE most photorealistic game people have ever seen. Coming from N64 and PS1 titles, that were still very much relevant back then, it was like having a window to another dimension on your TV screen. To youngins I also always have to remind that everyone used CRTs, meaning the game looked way more impressive. As a cultural phenomena, REmake 1 literally was THE title that started the whole remake boom, and has since been the blueprint for how to do it right : keep the gameplay and style faithful, expand and change things enough to challenge and surprise the old fans.>>750693183>To people aware that it's some png images and higher-poly characters using resources saved by doing that, not very.Literally everyone realized that already back in 1992 with AitD1. It does not reduce the artistic merits and insane visual fidelity the game provided, double so on the underdog Nintendo system - which actually was stronger than PS2.Not to mention having ANIMATED backgrounds, that also had dynamic lighting effects cast on them from characters and other props, is still impressive to this day. Remember: this was the era where the latest mainstream graphical powerhouses were games like Max Payne 1 and GTA3. Only Silent Hill 2 really compared to REmake.Posting the old 2001 pre-view mag clips again.

>>750693075i don't remember anyone talking about resident evil until resident evil 4
>>750694425/end.Gonna post the fun "Gaming's past - present - future" pages next.>>750694484That just means that you were not even ALIVE when RE1 dropped, because the PS1 trilogy was a world-wide phenomena like no other. That, or you were a literal normalfag by Y2K standards; a dudebro who only played Fifa, NHL and random shooters.

>>750694523Past (lit. my childhood)
>>750694550"Present" (circa 2002) - the golden era.

>>750693075>How impressive was Resident Evil remake in 2002?Pretty incredible, I remember being particularly impressed with the paintings corridor and the room with the birdcage. A true gem
>>750694523Wish I was a graphic designer in the early 2000's
>>750693075That game literally has almost no real graphics. It's all just prerendered still images. It feels dishonest and fake.
>>750693183Bullshit. It looked amazing and was considered a graphical masterpiece and people knew about prerendered backgrounds back then way more than they do today.
Watch a playthrough of thief 2 on youtube, then watch some RE1 remake footage to see what it was like.
>>750694523You missed the part that resident evil 4 was the one put on the gamecube.Nintendoids only caring about what they can play is normal.
