Prob not what you’re looking for but the Stanley parable does something somewhat similar.
Also I remember seeing someone was making a FPS game like the Stanley parable that was sort of based on war machine propaganda like COD but self aware

Spec Ops The Line through loading screens, though not just for dying but continuing to play. I never got why people got mad about it, I thought it's a nerdy clever way to say you could stop wars/killing virtual people if you wanted to, but on the other hand there's always some incentive not to stop.
