I agree that people sometimes take them to be way less intelligent than they are but expies still have that dog DNA in them, i doubt that they would react negatively to being pet and rubbed under heir chin and being treated like the adorable little guys they are (assuming they aren't in an extremely bad mood)
Milkies maybe would but we all know they're pretending not to like it to try to keep up appearances. Once they understand you don't see them as lesser for it, they would happily let you pet them

Same. Until Orso gets rid of that one artist with the creepy grooming fetish I cannot in good conscience pay for it. Still looking forward to release.
    >>750708873
I know Gunsaw's not canon but the Mercenary was conceived as the experiment that found the Object, picking up enough augmentations that he ended up hollow. Of course the game isn't black and white so maybe that was just something Orso threw in without thinking.

I was browsing /trash/ in Feb last year and saw a screenshot of a curious looking 2D game with the post that still sticks in my mind even now:
    >4th for not dying screaming in the dark for a help that will never come
Clicking this link and listening to Proxy made me very nostalgic about how far it's come since it started, it hasn't even been two years and the experience I got to have that was playing it blind, at night, hearing that song.
I was still thinking about the way my creature died, eaten from the head down in a ditch by two wall biters when I went to bed, and when I woke up in the morning.
It has a Wikipedia article now, for fuck's sake.
It's become a little bit more gay, as all things must when their fandoms become popular, but he's fucking doing it, bros.
Working in games is fucking awful, and as far as anybody seems to know it'll only get worse for people trying to get noticed and make a living, but I hope his ass can stay fed for a while off of this, and I really want a Gunsaw 2 with a bespoke soundtrack.

Orson's doing this as his "vent" game. I reckon he'd still in for a profit, but that's not his main goal.

Are these very old versions from the days of Scav Prototype archived anywhere? I only picked up the game on the steam release, always been curious about playing the early alpha ones to see what they're like. I'm especially interested in the IRL-deafening, headphone-blowing sound cannons that i've heard stories about.
If they aren't, then someone should upload them somewhere. It'd be a shame if the old history for a game that's become as great as this was lost to time.

Layer 1 of the very first version of Expie's game completed.

Now that was certainly challenging. Notwhitstanding the fact that it's a radline rush from the moment you start, crafting had not been added yet so until i got a cardboard box from a crate, i had to keep wandering around with items in the main inventory like those guys on youtube who don't pay attention to the foliage bag guide in the Casualties tutorial and have to juggle all their loot around until they die.
Musharms are much more essential here as well, much for the same reason as above.

Layer 2 of Scav 1.0 done.

The zero-minute radline was as tense as it was before. Although it's really interesting to play like this. Might be a cool idea for future C:U challenge lobbies if we can figure out how to set up a timer less than the minimum. You really are forced to keep going down every second and you must go even faster when you're actively descending because you still have to take naps. Gotta have some spare time to run away from your certain doom (although the swarm of ticks that i ran into in he middle of it did help me pick up he pace. Knowing how bad these things were even in C:U 6.0, i don't even want to imagine the ones from earlier versions)
I also managed to meet a living friendly survivor, but he didn't wanna chat with me and shooed me off.

Aaand the desert is complete, and with it the very first version of our beloved game.

Gotta admit that, with all the preparations allowed by the ever-constant radline rush (that being: almost nothing), i barely made it. There were injuries: the sandvines work differently here, merely reducing your downward movement while touching them, so it isn't reliable to try and "grab on" to the small ones. Learnt this the hard way. Luckily this version has a noticeably weaker gravity force and i didn't take that much damage even from an absolutely MAD fall (bad bleed on one arm, not much problem) Sandstalkers are very much an issue without a machete or digging tool. It's a run for your life when you see one. This led me to step on a couple bear traps. Without my extremely lucky bone welder i would not have made it. Hell, i barely made it with it.
Falling for one of the worse traps at any moment would have almost certainly meant death here. I had no way to deal with a landmine blast, i could barely fix my bleeding as bandages are very scarce.

In the end, it was pretty fun. Would like to try a challenge like this in C:U someday. Very interesting as well to see how the game evolved and what was always there and what was not. I was surprised to see that this version has the terrain scanner and the geofruit tastes neutral.
Still a game that i would've found amazing if i had found it on itch back in the day. It always had the soul.

Also, there are coils in the desert.

I wonder how common revolts against (overly) smug Milkies are?
    >>
    >>750735748
i imagine expie or other lesser sawian led revolts would be relatively common for the milkies that get a little too uppity and forget to make sure their subordinates are well fed and well pet. but those are fairly quickly overtaken by another milky or two, mostly willingly, when they realize ruling is much too difficult.
conniving milky on milky overthrows would also have to be quite common.

    Lobby over
    Thoughts:
    - The additional health regen rule is more useful than I gave it credit for. It makes up for the fact that you have no sleeping and no time manipulation buttons. Also you get tired constantly without it
    - 2x traps with half layers is no joke. Layer 5 becomes a zoo with how many spiders there are
    - Starting halfway made the layers _so_ much quicker. I actually think starting 1/3 of the way would be a better balance, especially for unchipped where you can't explore the map as thoroughly
    - A 30-40 min radline is good, so long as you remember to disable the straggler radline by setting it to 100% and not 0% like the other rules >:(
Anyway, thanks for joining my shitty little lobby. Congratulations to everyone who managed to survive even a single layer

    >>750736335
He's lying about the brain chip removal. There's no way you can get something pulled out of the brainstem like that, especially not on a retail salary.
    >>
    >>750736524
    >Good to know lobbies last about three and a half hours
Depends. This one was done with a setting that started everyone halfway down a layer, which greatly increased the speed of the lobby. They can last up to about 5 hours or more without that and depending on radline settings. Four hours is a decent estimate.

Don't self-depreciate yourself like that, dude. I had tons of fun and i'm sure the others had too
    >2x traps with half layers is no joke
Adding unchipped on top of that is what makes the doubled traps TRULY difficult.
We have lobbies with 2x traps here regularly with little to no casualties. But those are on normal. The limited line of sight makes it an entirely different beast. Since you don't have the usual x-ray vision to inspect every possible thing around you, you usually only have one way to go. Cherrypicking the safest path on the screen is not an option. Sometimes you have to trudge trough a bunch of lumalgae with spiders and active traps because there's no other way. Sometimes you have to dig through rock to reach god-knows-what maybe even on broken limbs 'cause that's all you know. Sometimes you have no choice but to just jump on a leap of faith down some hole and hope for the best. God knows what's below.

I really enjoyed our game today. It was hardcore. Did anyone count the number of deaths?

Terrain scanner and geiger counter become especially useful on unchipped. Also the watch, but that isn't craftable.
Once you figure out how to play the game, through craftmaxxing, taking your time, and diagnosing yourself, unchipped can almost become a positive.

Took my Milky trick-or-treating but confiscated all her chocolate because she can't eat it anyway. Now she's giving me the attitude (if you have a Milky you know what I mean) and says I have to make it up to her by replacing the treats I took. I feel like she's overreacting.

    >Wahhh the Company was so mean to us
Get over it man we all got problems
    >>
    >>750737983
Yeah, unchipped is indeed the way i like to play the game the most. But i'm usually the kind of guy who takes 90 minutes in the gravel lands to fully prepare up to int 12 and things like that. Explore the surroundings, memorize paths to and back around that one lifepod i decided to take station in for cooking food. It's kind of comfy actually.
I think it's the tight deadline really that can make unchipped very hard (or any deadline at all). Extra traps might make it difficult, but on second thought the worst is not being prepared enough to treat yourself despite knowing exactly what your condition is, because you had to rush to go down. The lack of time pressure keeps things more balanced on normal unchipped runs.

By the way you forgot the manual defibrillator. It's an almost essential device as it gives you an ECG, blood pressure and SpO2 meter at the cost of batteries. I always carry one on me in unchipped if i find it

Taking my Milky trick or treating and then hiding the candy on top of the fridge!

Go on an archive and type several words that you remember for certain were part of the post in the search bar. Assuming you know what board it was in, you'll find it.
If you don't get what i mean, you can find this post by searching "archive words remember assuming" into the search bar on b4k. Same principle.

Google Docs reminds me of college groupwork -definitely an odd feeling reading in that format. But still, great chapter! It's what, 90k words now, and 033 is still acting demure? You're a master of the slow burn. Audibly laughed at the chosen people joke. When AO3 comes back up, you can confidently tag Whitecoats with "holocaust reference". Might be the first in the fandom.

I'm gonna miss Sunshine. I'll cope that he's still alive until you eventually show his corpse in Chapter 52.
