I'm not really a kantofag but these games started declining almost immediately when they became all about legendaries. That shit was a side-plot in the first gen games and the STARTERS belonged on the boxart back then. The plot was about human criminal activity. 2nd gen had legendaries on the box but were not the game's primary focus either.3rd gen and forward were when all the games started flooding out billions of legendaries and super legendaries and the world fucking revolved around them. The stories of the games blended together and normal pokemon don't matter to them.
