Which Japanese video game company got hit the worst by a merger?
>>750683108SegaSammy is the objective answer
>>750683108SqueernixNo contest
man I hated seeing cool franchises like Digimon take a backseat to arcade slop
>>750683108SquareEnix and its not even close.
I feel like the Square Enix merger somehow ruined all the IPs and development teams of both companies.
>>750683108Epitome of Soul to Soulless
SquareEnix.Really rare for Square to miss back then and they've ruined almost every IP they've had, outside of DQ funny enough, but they rarely do anything with it but shill.
Its clearly Square Soft merging with Enix. They literally went to shit instantly as soon as it happened.
Bamco. Bandai really brought down Namco in terms of quality. People forget how good Namco was during the 80's and 90's.
You guys realize that Squaresoft stopped making so many games because they ran out of money, right? It had nothing to do with Enix "ruining" them
>>750683526It absolutely did. Unlike most mergers, the two were direct competitors in the same genres, and with the merged company most of their respective IPs ended up redundant with each other.
I hate that Bamco is mostly known for crappy Shonen games these days.I miss the 90s-early 2000s Namco days where they were the cool-ass 3D arcade company that made bangers like Pac-Man, Ridge Racer, Tekken, Klonoa etc.
>>750683371I'd argue of the three it's the one that had the most positive effect. Obviously it saved Sega from death, but the two were able to integrate their physical divisions in a way that benefit both. Sega filled a hole Sammy had at the time, Sammy provided increased capital and exposure. Meanwhile Squenix was an exercise in redundancy, while Bamco was Bandai turning Namco into their personal whore for their toy brands instead of farming the IPs to multiple developers.
>>750683108Would SegaBandai have succeeded? Keep in mind at the time Bandai was absolutely fucked, and it was a near miracle that they were able to turn their company around after the merger talks failed until they merged with Namco, so the power imbalanced that's fucked Bamco would have been in the opposite direction.
>>750683787Even in the 80's they had a good run of Arcade games. Namco started to go to shit after they bought Bandai.
>>750683436spbp
>>750683108Square and Enix went from making cool eroge to walking sim slop after the merge
Reminder that Square would have gone to shit entirely on his own regardless of Enix sabing their asses. If anything, it was Square that poisoned Enix well.
>>750683108scamdaiscamco easily, by far and away, hands down, sega was always shit, and square and enix are doing fine, namco got dragged down into the depths of hell by scamdai
>>750683108SQEX is just the millenialfag bias speaking, it's the BIG one that happened back then during the 2000s, but thing is SQEX still makes good games sort of consistently even if they dont reach the heights of yesterday.Sega became an dedicated image-washing machine for a pachinko company, thats way worse.
The Namco one hurt me the most followed by SEGA. Taito didn't even try to keep up with the times and deserved the fate they got. The current state of Bobble and Zuntata is tragic.
I feel like Enix are unfairly slandered against due to the post-merger quality decline, as if they are anchoring down Square. Both companies had decent quality output pre-merger. Enix IPs like Dragon Quest have been crucial for the companies continued success. The truth is that vidya in general went to shit beyond that generation, there were industry-wide reasons that game quality got worse.
>>750683709There was no shortage of money after the merger. Enix is a conglomerate, they own print media, anime studios, music publishing, etc. Enix was actually a much bigger company then Square.
>>750683108Hudson Soft.
I'm not personally affected by any of them.Square and Enix made the most famous JRPG franchises, it made perfect sense for them to merge and I think they both mutually benefited from one another. I attribute their downfall more to the way the industry developed than the merger itself.Bandai's games were all around shit before the merger, after it, we finally started seeing half decent licensed anime games, including some banger Dragonball and Gundam ones, so that's a win for me. Don't really care about any of Namco's original properties, lol.Sega was always shit after the Dreamcast anyways, they literally couldn't get worse.
