First Octopath I've played. I see you pick a character at start and your locked with them in party until you finish their story.Can any anons give me their perspective on play order. If you don't want to fuck up balance, don't explore too much outside the areas currently indicated by the main character quests, that way you don't accidentally pick up ridiculous gear.Also if you look around the map, some characters have slightly lower level suggestions than others.>but at the same time if jumping around stories too much fucks up the pacing or narrative I don't want that either.All characters' stories exist in their own bubble, so it's impossible to screw up narrative. There are skits you can watch where party members interact with each other to show that they actually exist together, but from a purely narrative standpoint they all stand on their own.Lastly, play order doesn't matter, but of the multiple playthroughs I've done I enjoyed starting Throné the most.

>>750682650You can get burnt out doing everyone's introductory chapter in a row. I'd get like 3 or 4 character, do someone's chapter 2, then get another character, then another chapter 2. You can also try to do your mains final chapter early for a challenge.I'd generally recommend against doing the "Finish 4 then do other 4 advice". Messing with you party is half the fun to see what works together. Also stops you from being tempted by throwing endgame gear on your unleveled party and just one shotting their entire middle chapters which would also make the game boring.Temenos is the main character btw.

"Aha, now I can search for the guy I heard about in the last town, maybe someone in the library knows more" kind of thing so don't worry too much.Ochette seems kind of overpowered since her beasts can hit any weakness which is always useful, so if you want someone always useful she's good. Other than that go with what seems fun.
>>750684872The high level gear is certainly an aspect, but I treated it more like a NG+. The first team did the majority of the world exploration, unlocking areas. The second team was more cleaning up everything that I missed. For refrence, and I'll spoiler it in case you don't want any team comp recs: Priest and Thief both have passives that function at night, so as they were both in Team 2, they were mostly just a 'travel by night for EXP' team.This is the kind of RPG where you have to find your own fun with it, because the game will give you some crumbs but the real meat is going out of your way whenever you can. Always remember that level suggestions are just that, suggestions.
Appreciate the responses. I probably will just jump around a bit chapter wise. The more I thought about it, I realized in general I do like playing team based games where I swap out people regularly to find new team synergies and stuff. Glad to know there's a recap feature though. Going on vibes it is I guess.

And I simply did Chapter1 -> Chapter1 -> Chapter1 -> Chapter1 -> Chapter2 -> Chapter2 -> Chapter2 -> Chapter2 -> Chapter3, etcThen when I had done the final chapters of the first four character. I effectively benched them. In order to do the same thing all over again with the remaining four. And then after all of that. I mixed and matched them all however I pleased to do all the extra, bonus, and end-game content.
