The real question is how someone new to the game would get to Havel for the first time from OPs pic without running into him from the other side first.

At multiple points basic gamer senses would lead elsewhere. Off the rip exploring firelink thoroughly enough to find the new ludo elevator is unlikely. Firelink classicly funnels to the graveyard or burg. Skipping ahead to darkroot most players are going to get btfo by the hydra's attacks and opt to ascend rather than progress. In the garden at the y intersection out of the basin one of the two directions leads to the parish. In short acheiving this scenario as a new player is nigh impossible.However the most charitable explanation is a more seasoned player still on their first playthrough exploring darkroot and entering the tower unaware that it connects to burg and encountering havel for the first time.
