Blessed silver, maybe. It's not the wood or a stake that a vampire is weak to. The cursed blessings made him nigh unkillable, able to recover from most fatal injuries. Hellsing had studied it a bit beforehand but wasn't sure, so he went with the shotgun approach for the kill: destroy the heart (stake), stuff the mouth with garlic, cut off the head for good measure, and burn the body.
