Crazy how it's never been topped. Nothing has even come anywhere close.

Praying for KSA to end up good
>>
>>750680385
It looks more and more soulless with every progress update
>>
Has anyone even tried to make a game like it? aside from the """""sequel"""""
>>
>>750680626
What happened with that? I had never played KSP and when I heard there was a sequel coming I waited. Then it came out and everybody said it was the worst thing ever, so I never bought it. What went wrong?
>>
>>750680436
yeah lots of people involved are kind of the 'overpromise and underdeliver' types. regardless of the talent involved... i dunno man
>>
>>750680698
Gross mismanagement of developers and the project leading to half-baked catastrophe
>>
>>750680626
Kitten Space Agency seems to attempt being real KSP 2 but it's still in >pre-alpha.
>>
>>750680717
They got the Rimworld devs to swap Unity for their fancy framework (that they're also using for KSA) with good performance improvements, so that's at least one functional project they've finished
>>
>>750680981
Well yeah, that seems about par for the course, but what exactly was so much worse about this game from the original? I have very surface level knowledge of the original KSP even though I've never played it since I've seen yt videos.

From what I understand it was a shitty cash-grab with an idea guy at the helm. Publishers thought it'd be easy to make a new KSP with a new engine by just following KSP1 as a blueprint. Turns out it wasn't and they spent years trying to resolve all the same problems KSP1 had to overcome early in it's development. Publishers brought the KSP1 devs back to make the two KSP1 DLCs since KSP2 was missing all it's milestone deadlines and they really wanted to make money on the IP they bought. Idea Guy kept pushing for more stupidly ambitious and way out of scope new features like multiplayer and wouldn't budge on them when the team said it wasn't possible. The bullshot announcement trailer and early access release were a hail mary attempt to save the game by trying to pump cash into it with the hype. Game already had one foot in the grave before we ever heard about it.

Game looks neat but I'm so fucking sick of the gay song about rockets people put in every single short about it. It's worse than the faggy upbeat banjo music in every rdr2 video
>>
>>750681379
I have no idea what you're talking about because I play video games instead of doomscroll the "algo-slop for drooling retards" section of youtube.
>>
>>750681118
Less features than the original, less stable than the original, all while having 0 mods that already made the original its own sequel
>>
>>750681379
What the fuck are you talking about? On a second thought, I'd rather not know
>>
>>750681537
calm down, fag. If you spend more time gaming than I do (you don't) it's not something you'd be proud of.
anyway, the faggy ass song they spam in those shorts is Super Sonic Rocket Ship by the Kinks.

>What went wrong?
Dumb decisions by Take-Two that unnecessarily constricted the game, in conjunction with over-ambition by novice project leads and junior devs that caused a downward spiral of bullshit that doomed the game's development.
>>750681118
>but what exactly was so much worse about KSP2 from the original?
KSP1 is a game, janky and encumbered as it may be. KSP2 is a hollow promise that performs worse, has far more bugs and jank, only looks marginally better (and even then, mods can make KSP1 look quite excellent), and never even got close to feature parity with KSP1, let alone reach any of the lofty milestones the devs set for it. And it would be one thing if it was just a bad game, but it basically killed the entire franchise's future and signified the end of development of KSP1.
>>
It's kind of a hard game to top just by nature of how it works. The mod scene has basically created every feature people would want for a follow up. Any attempt to make a KSP sequel or successor is pretty much starting from zero, so it's going to be objectively worse for however long it takes to push the boulder up the mountain as far as KSP1 did.
>>
Any mods that make the contracts more interesting, and part mods that integrate into the tech tree well? I'm looking to do a second playthrough soon and am thinking of mixing it up, as well as making it harder to research everything while barely exploring the entire Kerbol system

picrel is supposed to be everything KSP2 tried to be, apparently. I think the cats look fucking horrendous.

>making it harder to research everything while barely exploring the entire Kerbol system
Literally just don't use the Mobile Processing Lab
Dunno if there's a mod that removes it from the game
>>
>>750685341
The art is a lot better than the actual models imo. If nothing else gets changed, then at least we can surely count on mods to replace/fix them
>>
>>750685398
There's that, but you need to do a little extra because even without labs, it's still too easy. Reduce science gain, outright refuse to drain every little bit of science from one planet, etc. At that point it feels like you're deliberately trying to play with an arm and a leg cut off just to not accidentally research everything on your first visits to Duna and Eve
>>
>>750679195
I've always had an idea to create a better version of this (I've got some specific ideas I think people would love). But I'd never be able to without AI and it sucks too much at the moment. So, maybe in 2030ish if we're on a good path?
