how was the hype for this
>>
It was the biggest thing at the time, it saved Xbox that generation
>>
Bordering on obnoxious hysteria
>>
Big in the US, non-existent everywhere else.
>>

I don't remember the surrounding hype, and I didn't play it at launch, but I suddenly played it one day for no reason and enjoyed it.
>>
>>750675105
Bigger than you could ever imagine. The crazy part is, Halo 3 lived up to the hype and is still an amazing game today.
>>
>>750676013
It's worse than 2
>>
>>750675105
Shut the fuck up
>>
>>750675105
fuckin bonkers. only game I attended a midnight release for in my podunk nowhere midwest town, and it was packed. idk if I've ever personally witnessed as much IRL hype for a game release, or ever will again.

Yes, but being worse than one of the best fps games of all time is nothing to be ashamed of. Halo 3 had the best manifestation of a community thanks to forge, fileshare, and custom games too.

I just really miss Xbox live at this time. Is there any popular modern shooters that have completely open mics with people even talking during matchmaking screens and stuff, where everyday you feel like there's pretty good odds you'll make a new online friend or rival?
>>
>>750676397
I remember chasing after the vidmasters across Halo 3 and ODST with complete randos. Every lobby was open mic and everyone was talking good shit. The average IQ of people you would meet was also significantly higher than what you would find today.

lmao

No joke. And a 16 year old white kid was the average person you'd meet in an online game in 2007. That's how dire it is today.

omg that's sooo cool it must be so awesome being a millennial!1! Wow just wow i am so impressed. *sigh* Oh, to be a millennial.....

thanks, it was!

Got the Legendary Edition at Midnight.

Pretty hype.

It was the first time I saw an Xbox 360. The jump from halo 2 blew my kid brain

The gaming journalists, news outlets, and attention seeking faggots, (though it was mainly the gaming journalists) that kept pushing to destroy online gaming and refused to ever use parental and mute/block functions need to be remembered more for the fucking losers they are.
>>
I miss when halo and gears were the big games I much prefer them to cod and fortnight because they were games that tried to have world building and original ideas, so much more personality like something that was uniquely “video game”
>>
>>750675105
Honestly it passed me by. I was still on PS2 at the time. I didn't finally get around to playing it until the ODST/Forza 3 bundle came out in late '08. I didn't even have an Xbox until '06, and that was really just because they were dirt cheap at the time and I wanted to play KotOR II after playing it at a friends house. I played Halo 3 first and was kinda lukewarm on the series as a whole for a long time.
>>
>>750675867
We didn't know how good we had it.
>>
Remember the first time you got laid. The release of Halo 3 was like the moment just before you stuck it in.
>>
>>750675105
Non existent. I didn't pay attention after playing the homosexual nigger aids that was Halo on Xbox.
>>
>>750675105
The hype for this felt more natural and tangible than GTA 6. Times were different back then.

To add to this, the hype was aided by there being SO many other players that were hyped. Multiplayer/campaign coop/custom games with mics (which only people under the age of 25 don't remember were a common thing) had young men just constantly hype and social and it just created so much context for your brain to feel pleasure.
