Can someone explain why they liked this game?

Used to play it couple years ago, with some recommended modpack. The map is bland and boring. Everything looks the same. Every encounter feels clunky. Shooting feels clunky. Quests while apparently written "well" lack emotional impact. Aside from dead money dlc
