What gives? How come Mass Effect 3 didn’t inspire a new wave of “it was good all along chuds” sentiment the way others have? Was Mass Effect 3 really THAT bad? More people hate mass effect 2 than love 3.

but it’s still not a very good RPG as was originally promised.
>>
Yes it was that bad.
It killed the franchise.
Only loner plebs don't like RE5. It is one of the all time greatest co-op games.
>>
I'm pretty sure mass effect 3 was mostly considered fine up to the ending.
I also liked the multiplayer.
But the ending was SO bad it casts a shadow over everything else the game does.

>>750666912
>RE5/6
We got better games as time went on. Even then they weren’t bad games from a pure gameplay perspective. Just not RE.
>Prequel trilogy
Movies had a different unique direction and endless supplementary content. Gen Z grew up on them.
>Cyberpunk
Zoomers are goyim who fall for anything with cute anime girls and mediocre gameplay. It got more content.
>Dead Space 3
Contrarians and no one caring.
The big reason why most of these succeeded is they had follow up media and kept going. Mass Effect’s only follow up was a shitty game that no one liked that had ugly characters.

Still considered the worst of the series. 5 was always seen as a flawed game with good parts vs 6 which is just bad.
>>Revisionism has saved the prequel trilogy
By being not as bad as the nu trology? Everyone still agrees it's measurably worse the original trilogy
>>Revisionism has saved Cyberpunk 2077
An anime did. 90% of the reviews for CP2077 were just 'lol omg edgerunners so good, 1.2hrs on record'
>>Revisionism has saved Dead Space 3
According to who? Dead Space 3 is by far the worst of the trilogy and no one denies that. Maybe people nostalgic for the series as a whole killed by EA but not for Dead Space 3

As for ME3 it was never seen as bad game until nu-/v/ 'every game is shit' mantra took over the board years later. Not as good as 1 or 2 but still a great game. No one would care for the controversy of the ending if the rest of the game was shit.

>How come Mass Effect 3 didn’t inspire a new wave of “it was good all along chuds” sentiment
Because zoomers, the worst dogshit evil in human history, can do more to ruin things like they're compelled to do by cooning for Mass Effect 2, the far worse game that actually killed the franchise.
>>
>>750666912
I've been hearing around that ME3 is actually a decent game, it's just the copy and paste endings that gave it a negative reception.

>it's a bad rpg
Heavy RPG mechanics make games worse for anybody that's not literally autistic which is the vast majority of people.
It had just enough roleplay mechanics and great gunplay, top-notch story, fun characters and multiple endings.
>>
>>750668083
This would be nice in principle but that’s not what CD Projekt Red promised. I’m not against having a random loot shooter with a cyberpunk aesthetic over it. The problem is lying to your consumers and setting a worse precedent.
>>
>>750667195
>I'm pretty sure mass effect 3 was mostly considered fine up to the ending.
There were serious problems. The stupid fucking dream sequences, the various brown fags now on the Normandy, and everything about Cerberus, especially the stupid fucking space Narutos. 3 wasn't nearly as bad as 2, and held the important parts together until faggot Lawson fanfiction derailed the entire game the instant you set foot on Horizon, but it was still markedly worse than 1 in keeping any consistency to the setting and tone.
>>
>>750668010
Zoomers were like 6 when ME2 came out. ME2 was beloved to the point /vg/ was created to avoid /v/ becoming half mass effect threads every time ME3 news dropped.

On twitter & parts of youtube there's already lots of revisionism around 3.

Hell even parts of /v/ do it (mainly to shit on 2).

I will never understand it 3 is so fucking poorly written & 90% of the missions are borning dogshit.
It rips out vehicle exploration & varied sidemissions & replaces it with....................nothing unless you count "turret sections" (many of which you literally do not have to fire a single fucking bullet to "win" they're just there for retards to shoot a gun into the air for a set amount of time) & multiplayer maps where you shoot waves of enemies until the "mission completes"

Completely misses what made ME1 cool with you going around the galaxy, solving side missions & using your spectre status to mediate or eliminate conflicts.

All of your choices are boiled down to making a number go up so you can choose between 3 equally shit endings that go against not just the themes of the series but the fucking story elements that you might have already "solved" 3 hours beforehand never have the option to be brought up when the starchild starts ranting about how organics & synthetics will never stop fighting you can't bring up anything you've done to prove that wrong.

The entire ending mission is just a corridor shooter through a grey bombed out environment, Instead of making the ending like............oh I dunno fucking Dragon Age Origins where the factions you chose had a direct impact on your gameplay experience during the ending battles with summonable NPC's or hell why not copy what they did in ME2 & have your experience with the final level dictated by you choosing NPCs for missions or the upgrades you got but no it's just..........nothing.

The game fundamentally didn't understand what made the series interesting in the first place, On top of that is rushed & poorly written.

Anyone that defends this piece of shit should be run over with a Mako tank legs first.

It along with Dragon Age 2 were the beginning of the end of Bioware.

Zoomer Revisionism is typically targeted at shit they weren't "there for." They just pick any Thing that predates their cancerous presence, observes whether General Opinion on Thing is Gud or Bad, then say "[Thing] [Opposite of General Opinion], actually." So "South Park always bad, actually," "Prequels Gud, actually," "7th Gen bad actually," "Jarpigs Gud, actually," etc etc etc

Zoomer Revisionists (IE Zoomers) are the absolute bottom of the barrel dripping shits nadir dirt worst scum of the earth across all its history. The purest and most banal evil there ever was.

Controversial take but I think the "woke killed Bioware" thing actually is over-exaggerated. Almost literally everything about Veilguard just plain sucked from top to bottom, if you stripped out every last ounce of wokeness it would still be a terrible disappointment of a game. Modern Bioware was simply incompetent in the truest sense of the word and the woke stuff was a symptom, not the actual cause itself.

Your opinion of ME3 is extremely heavily affected by whether or not you were there when it first launched or not, the original ending was straight up Bioware shitting in the fans' collective mouth and calling it a satisfying conclusion to a trilogy where your choices matter and the outrage was fucking biblical, absolutely everyone was getting swept up in it. Playing it years later with the massively upgraded ending they released a little while later (which took it from "abysmal dogshit" to "kinda bad") is a very different experience to getting a front row seat to five years of obsession and hype for a series that was considered a titan in the RPG genre spectacularly self-destructing in a giant fireball of seething hatred and disappointment.

The tacked-on multiplayer that literally nobody asked for was really good though, I put a lot of hours into that over a year or so.

Mass Effect 3 was extremely bad. They had some cool lore and the story wasn't perfect due to the mix of changes between 1 and 2, and even 2 and its own DLC, but the "core" of the Mass Effect feeling was there through most of the first two games, and then like 5% there for me in 3. It comes back occasionally in the middle of the game when the game finally gives you fun dialog wheel choices or the dialogue itself is really insightful on the part of the world, but for much of 3 before the shitty ending even that much isn't true anymore, and it's become sort of schlocky and really forced writing.

But they did thematically carry the franchise around 80% of the way through even ME3, and the ending could've still landed it as a good series, but then they also had to fuck that up, and it is a horrible ending in no other sense than it suddenly gets its own thesis wrong. It's a bit like writing assignments in high school and turning them in late. You sit up to 1am the night before and scribble up some bullshit, and then your "Conclusion" subchapter isn't even correct with the rest of your analysis, and you forgot what you were supposed to examine with your assignment. That's how 3's ending feels. Them having a narrative that's about "The collective freedom from tyranny" or something to that effect and then suddenly all of that is misread as if it's been a story arc about "Organic life vs Synthetic life", and the endings are basically the 3 endings from Deus Ex, but they don't belong in Mass Effect as the conclusion to everything?

The consequence of those endings in the universe are so huge and so catastrophic that even if it was really thematically strong, they would've been a bit controversial with fans, but we had to accept these irreversible "sacrifices" to the amazing IP and its world for something that isn't even a fucking thing in the story it's concluding upon.
>>
>>750669014
>I will never understand it 3 is so fucking poorly written & 90% of the missions are borning dogshit.
This. The entire framing of 3 makes everything feel semi-inconsequential or irrelevant.
Any trilogy were act 3 is just "...and now it's WAR. Who wins?" is so fucking boring because of course it's the good guys who are going to win even if it comes at a cost to their lives or something. But so much of 3's rhetorical question when you're just doing 1 side mission after another is basically "Are we gonna win?" and I just stack together random forces in a copy-pase of DA:O's plot, for something THAT DOESN'T EVEN MAKE THAT MUCH SENSE TO DO IN MASS EFFECT.

DAO was great you know? A bit more generic than ME1 or ME2 but great. It's a "The Demons are coming, please raise an army and rally a united front when they come" and then that happens, and you do it.

Mass Effect 3 did not have the credentials for such a premise. Mass Effect 3 was supposed to be a sequel in which "The demons are coming, but WE KNOW THEY CAN'T BE FOUGHT" so the entire "War" aspect of the narrative should not have been treated as a "...and then you found allies and fought the enemy together" kind of thing.

What the ending does is actually halfway close to correct for the story. There's a narrative about "cyclical nature of civilization and evolution", and then every civilization rose up and was cast down, and Shepard is now part of his own civilization's "pinnacle" and there's supposed to be something within that that gives reason for the Reapers to appear and cast us down, and 3 really should've been about the invasion starting, the war ensuing, but Shepard being like "I KNOW there's something we're missing about this" and then you chasing space macguffins and making some alternative force against the Reapers that isn't as futile as the "armies", and then discover before the ending what really spawned the Reapers and what mistake is really being made each cycle.

ME2 introduced ammo into the game. ME1 had guns which effectively had infinite ammo. I read the lore blogs in-game. It was technically around 10,000 shots per clip. Might as well be infinite. >It rips out vehicle exploration
Me when I lie about which game deleted the Mako
>using your spectre status to mediate or eliminate conflicts
That's nice anon, now tell me: in which game does your Spectre status come more into play, 2 or 3?
>All of your choices are boiled down to making a number go up so you can choose between 3 endings
But your choices matter far more in 3 over 2? ME2 doesn't deal with any of your ME1's choices. Most everything it introduces is new to itself, and what few things are called back to are often done in simple e-mails an intern could've written in an afternoon. Tali will treat you the same all game long no matter if you helped her in ME1 or not. Garrus will treat you the same all game long no matter if you even recruited him and was present in ME1 or not. The new council, or the possible existance of a human one, isn't addressed. Having done the Cerberus quest chain in ME1 doesn't matter. Having your old Spectre license or not doesn't matter. Having Wrex or Wreav doesn't really change a thing, it doesn't lock you from certain content, it's effectively the same just with slightly different wording. You can play ME2 without importing an ME1 save and you're getting 90% the exact same experience, minus some 15 emails or so. Comparatively, you try and play a non-imported ME3 savefile and it's a completely different fucking game. Half the characters are dead, every major narrative arc in the game wildly changes because of it, other characters don't use as familiar a language with Shepard as they otherwise would've, there's close to no callbacks in audio or small scripted scenes in the Normandy.
>>
>>750666912
>Revisionism has saved the prequel trilogy
This is actually a case of counter-revisionism. Boomers, milennials, and gen x'rs controlled the discourse without understanding what they were watching or discussing, so the younger generation is now in charge of the discussion and we are not only smarter, but are better than them in every way, so our love for the prequels and OT on top of our pure hatred for disney's star wars (something bomers, milennials and gen x'rs universally praise) shows that we're right, as usual. once they all die out than we'll enter a golden age.
>>
>>750669014
Why do retards pretend the one game in the trilogy that actually fucking tries to deal with past choices doesn't do so, when it is factually the one that does the most, simply because they equate the choices being only a thing for the last 10 minutes, ironically because they were badly trained by the Suicide Mission to think so, when the choices are present throughout the entire game?
>story elements that you might have already "solved" 3 hours beforehand
How does achieving a weekend of peace after centuries of slaughter prove a trillion years old pattern wrong?
>why not copy what they did in ME2
Because ME2 blew its load a game too early and made shit more difficult moving forward for a game that unlike it, actually tried to care for what came before at the same time as not getting half of its development time and resources.

ME2 cultists need to be studied.

>Do you need to be told, line by line how unfathomably poorly written 2 is to the point it causes active whiplash if you play it straight after 1?
2 is well written.
You hate the plotting, but the game, for what it is, is well written, with adequate amount of camp and tongue in cheek, and introspection where necessary, and it has banger lines.
I love the way it starts, with Liara/Ashley running up to Shepard and asking "will the alliance get here in time?"
>They damn well better.
And him saying something about "crippled corpses".
And then Illusive Man being met for the first time, as there's real tension between him and Shepard, and the fact that we don't have the old crew. And then setting up this uneasy alliance to find out more about the Reapers, and then you accumulate a group feeling over the course of the game and become independent at the end when telling TIM you don't need him anymore like a badass.

In 3 the opening is god awful.
>Character shows up you don't know
>He knows Shepard and Shepard knows him
This is a disconnect between the returning player and the ongoing story
>Anderson shows up
Shepard and anderson say a lot of bullshit
>"You've faced down a Reaper. Hell, you spoke to one, then blew the damned thing up!"
>"I'm just a soldier, Anderson, I'm no politician!"
>"I don't need you to be either. I just need you to do whatever the hell it takes to help us stop the Reapers!"
>"The Reapers are more advanced than us. More powerful, more intelligent. They don't fear us, and they'll never take pity on us!"
>"If we're to have any chance of surviving this we have to stick together."
>"We fight or we die!"
>"We have to go to the Citadel, to talk to the council."
>"The Citadel? The fight's here!"
And various other bullshit that makes you wanna claw your own face off.
>>
>>750680741
>Do you need to be told, line by line how unfathomably poorly written 2 is to the point it causes active whiplash if you play it straight after 1?
That's an interesting point. I first heard about ME from friends ranting about how great ME2 was. It had just come out then. I was intrigued. So I went out, got ME1 and played through that. Loved it. 10/10 game to this day. When I was finished with that, I immediately started ME2. It was such a huge downgrade, but everyone around me talked about how much better it was than the 1st game. It was like all they carried about was getting more cover shooter gameplay with snappier controls. Everything else was a strict downgrade.
>>
>>750667842
Not only that, people who put the bugs to the side agreed the game was bad, the game literally didn't change a bit, they just fixed the bugs and someone else released a critically acclaimed anime.

>How come Mass Effect 3 didn’t inspire a new wave of sentiment the way others have?
It did doe. You can like ME1 and dislike both sequels, or like ME1 and like/see where ME3 was going for had EA not fucked with its development. If you state you like ME1, unironically like ME2 and see nothing wrong with it, but then hate ME3, I know you're a shitter that clapped at the nonsensical spectacle and ruining ME2 delivered while transplanting your hope for answers from rightfully that game to the next, then got mad when it turned out a single game couldn't hold the weight of two because its prequel failed at its purpose but it got past you at the time.

TLDR ME1 ages like fine wine and ME3 is now being analyzed without recency bias or retards hyping Gears Effect 2 as the greatest game ever, so both make ME2 age worse the more time goes by.
>>
>>750681103
And thank god for that, because Mass Effect trilogy is already significantly worse than Star Wars OT was as a trilogy, and OT even had some fans turn on Return of the Jedi because they felt it took things in the wrong direction after Empire.

That's how ME2 -> ME3 felt to me. I guess it is just a matter of 'having been there' and if you felt that disappointment, it never fades.

The main plot isn't that bad either. It shows the Reapers are meddling, and converting people which at the time was supposed to be lead-up to further unraveling of their mystery, before 3 abandoned developing the Reapers for the entire game, or even have much of a mystery (the Catalyst is a crux, not an actual mystery) and then they postponed it and postponed it and then heelturned at the fucking ending to lore-dump the discarded table-scraps of ideas they had but never developed, that literally the entirety of 3 should have been developing as its premise.

I know the series isn't about the Reapers but it kinda is. Any story about heroism is typically about the Hero AND the villain, and there's thematic substance to the fact that Shepard is "the shepherd" and then so are the Reapers, but the prose of the franchise is such that Shepard is the shepherd that unites everybody, or "the many" against goliath, and the Reapers are just shepherding via assimilation. It's about consolidation vs diversity, and the paragon value through the series is that more division and thus more diversity is more paragon good guy stuff, and more evil stiff is to merge and centralize and dominate, and that's still underlying parts of 3 but it gets lost along the way.

They were previously comparing humanity against the species and asking "will we be no better than Reapers?" and the Reapers being sorta symbolic to the temptation you need to avoid, and so many choices being about either taking the effort to help people out or doing bare minimum to get the "essence" of something.

And there is a theme through 2 and 3 in particular about Reapers harvesting and reproducing from sentient species by way of only assimilating the "essence" of who we are, but losing our personality and culture in the process of literally killing us and just harvesting the DNA.

But all of this could've been better communicated if they actually continued where 2 left, and developed the Reapers further.

A lot of retards conflate 2 "not mattering" as its fault when that's arguably squarely on 3 not tying into ME1 and 2 in a meaningful way (mainly due to rewrites).

If Return of the King completely binned all the character development and set up of two towers that wouldn't magically make it so that the 2nd movie is at fault it's entirely on that entry not being well written.

The entire point of ME2 is the beef up the characters and set up stuff like Cerberus and the Dark energy plotline and the incoming reaper invasion.

It's not 2's fault that 3 either ignores most of these due to pandering to the Call of Duty audience or just completely fucks it up like with everything involving Cerberus.

The only major sin of 2 is barely touching on the fact that you fucking die and get resurrected.

Even 3 mostly doesn't touch on this outside of the reddit Citadel DLC storyline which is basically just a joke side mission.

>>
>>750684914
Did you actually play the fucking game?
The entire plot of ME2 is predicated on the Reapers initiating their invasion through the Collectors because Shepard stopped the plot to activate the teleportation relay in ME1.

The Collectors are harvesting human colonies to construct a Reaper, Horizon gets abducted, the Normandy investigates and you literally spend the climax destroying the Human-Reaper larva being built in preparation for their return. The entire point of the Arrival DLC is that the Reapers are approaching and Shepard has to delay their arrival by destroying the Alpha Relay, sacrificing an entire system in the process.

ME2 doesn't just set up ME3, it establishes the immediate circumstances of the invasion. What exactly did you think the Collector plot was supposed to be?

Thematically, ME2 is about the Reapers being an existential threat that operates on a scale beyond conventional galactic politics.
The Collectors are their instruments, the human-Reaper is their next step, and Arrival establishes that even destroying their infrastructure only buys the galaxy a little time.

ME3 then proceeds to squander that groundwork with its rushed galactic-war narrative, magical deus ex machina Crucible and increasingly incoherent ending.

That's not even getting into the dark energy subplot, which ME2 was actively setting up as a major part of the overarching narrative. Tali's recruitment mission introduces the dying star anomaly, the Collector Ship dialogue and conversations with the Illusive Man further establish the possibility that the Reapers harvesting cycle is connected to some underlying unknown problem involving dark energy.

You can dislike ME2's structure, but claiming it didn't establish the invasion is revisionism.

The funniest part is watching ME3 get retrospectively rehabilitated by zoomer Indians who discovered the franchise through multiplayer and think having a galaxy map full of fetch quests constitutes a satisfying conclusion.

>1 and 3 remembered that squadmates should have a quality > quantity approach

>How does this excuse 3
By it doing more with less: more choices to have to take into consideration, more actual visible consequences that react to your save, less development time, less breathing room as the final entry. And yet, it accomplished more out of the promise that 2 ignored. Where's my human Council? Why does the rescued Council suddenly go against their speech at the end of ME1? Why is Cerberus now a 20yo company founded by a glownigger instead of the Alliance black ops cell it was stated to be in ME1? Why does the decision regarding Garrus' future with C-Sec or the Spectres not matter because he's turned into discount Batman regardless? Why does practically no major choice from ME1 affect ME2? Why are they all relegated to background radio messages? Why is the Horizon dialogue forced into making Shepard out to be an idiot just so the Virmire Survivor can leave the game after 30 seconds of screentime?

In how true it is? 3's squadmates are mechanically better than 2's and actually interact with each other without the overlapping of abilities that turns some of them into glorified action figures with little depth once you get past their character design. The only ones that have unique abilites (white highlighter) are Jack and Mordin, with Kasumi and Zaeed being DLC (and Zaeed's being Disruptor Ammo, which Soldiers and Infiltrators already have). It's telling that they didn't call any of them back to record lines for any of the DLCs. You could basically cut half the characters and have a better developed, six people squad like ME1 or ME3 which would make them feel like an actual crew and not a bunch of OC toys a kid threw together. The squad doesn't interact with each other in 2, they all live in their own bubbles in the Normandy they never leave outside of the Jack/Miranda-Tali-Legion conflict cutscene. 3 adds scenes where characters actually move around the ship, you have Garrus calling Liara or Kaidan moving up to Joker, Tali using the bar or James using the poker table. Nobody moves in 2, everything is static, and once you see it you cannot unsee it. That's not mentioning how the combat mechanics make some characters, like Jack, completely useless.

>>750685654
>Yeah man James Vega is totally a better squadmate
He's certainly better used. He was Jacob done right. James works because he's simply a likeable guy trying to keep up with the craziness around him. He feels genuine, he's a regular soldier in a war that's going to end the galaxy, and plays the part well. He's also there for Shepard to take on a more mentor role for him and to tie Shepard more to Earth and the Alliance given someone sniffed coke during the last game and decided to work for Cerberus. Shepard becomes to Vega what Anderson is to Shepard.

Jacob is not the Surrogate Audience character in ME2. He's just the inverse of Kaidan like Miranda is the Inverse of Ashley. Almost all squadmates in 2 are inverse of the respective characters from the first game, best shown with Samara who is very orderly like Liara but completely sick with a toxic set of rules and zero issue killing someone to follow it.
People get hung up on Jacob because he's a black guy in a white person fantasy, but really he is just the new Kaidan, a goodie-two-shoes who happens to work for Cerberus and Kaidan was a goodie-two-shoes who happened to work for the Alliance, and Ashley/Miranda are just kinda bitchy but Ashley is appreciative of Shepard and Miranda is not.
They added James to 3 because EA laid down the mandate that they had to prioritize players who HADN'T played the previous games as their new primary audience, and they literally told Jeff Gerstmann when giving him the review copy to "Please select New Game and don't import the save, and put in the review how welcoming we made it to beginners!"

I'm trying to stay motivated to finish my mod after the ME5 cancellation.

Honestly, there's going to be a total silencing of the Mass Effect audience after the year's over, and it really sets in that there's no BioWare anymore.

I think it's because even if the new game would've been woke or retarded, there was always the POTENTIAL some day that BioWare would get its rennaissance, and now that's been ruled out, and the industry is that bit darker than it was before.
>>
>>750685132
>The entire plot of ME2 is predicated on the Reapers initiating their invasion through the Collectors
But it's not, the Collectors will take centuries to finish the dumb baby and they cannot attack Earth no matter how much the game pretends they can, which doesn't matter anyways because 2's DLC states they were a weekend away from reaching the galaxy.
>Arrival
Indeed. If a one hour long DLC is more relevant to the plot than... the plot, you fucked up along the way.
>ME2 doesn't just set up ME3
It doesn't .
>it establishes the immediate circumstances of the invasion
ME1 already establishes that the Reapers harvest for centuries upon arrival. ME2 develops nothing and muddles the water; what have the Collectors been doing for the last 50k years if they only started building the baby Reaper after getting interested in humanity post-ME1?
>Thematically, ME2 is about the Reapers

>That's not even getting into the dark energy subplot
Both because a missable mission that offhandedly mentions "yeah there's some weird stuff with this sun I guess" doesn't set up shit to the degree if a writer didn't mention they had the dark energy idea at some point in an interview, nobody in the world would think it existed; and because dark energy was rightfully abandoned:
>Reapers realized mass effect fields and biotics were leading to the death of the whole universe so they leave all sorts of mass effect tools around for every future civilization to build off of. To hasten the effect
>they don't tell anyone anything about it and no one realizes it
>then every 50k years they harvest all sorts of advanced civilizations then disappear so that even if anyone was solving the problem, it's halted and forgotten
>and the premise had it reach the point where *time was actually running out*. Several hundred thousands of millions of years and they thought harvesting the most advanced civilizations would solve the problem
>reset everything to solve a problem that they don't explain, facilitate to occur, and do nothing themselves to solve

>really he is just the new Kaidan
He wishes, Kaidan is actually well written. His shtick was being literally the *only* squadmate in ME1 that had his shit together: Ash had her grandaddy issues, Liara had her mommy issues and both Garrus and Wrex had their daddy issues. Kaidan's thing was teaching you about biotic lore for the first time in the franchise and to show how he had already gotten over his backstory but you give the guy a couple idle sentences regarding headaches and he's remembered as a whiner.

>>750686910
It'll always be a decent game that doesn't escalate into something that feels good.
The shock of how awful the writing was in general has worn off to me, and I also don't cringe at the dialogue anymore, whereas I used to think the opening was so fucking terrible I wanted to take a break or something, and on the Citadel there's a lot of cringers that I didn't feel like 1/2 had, but those are ok now, and Illusive Man's role also used to offend me but I'm like "fair, you needed an archetypal villain and Martin Sheen makes it good".

But it's always after Thessia I actually have 1 or 2 playthroughs of the 3 games where I just lost interest after that point because you know Priority Earth is coming and you know that everything after that is a blur of mediocrity, unlike ME1 where if I get properly started, there's no way I'm not seeing the Prothean Ilos Archives again, or see the nice space battle at the end, and with 2 if I power through it, I also get excited for the Suicide Mission again.

But with 3 you get excited for Tuchanka, and Rannoch, and then it's like "ohh yeahhh... this is where it starts to fall apart."
>>
>>750686931

Except the likes of Feros and Noveria have direct narrative relevance to the plot. How does does Thane's recruitment affect the Reapers?
>>
>>750687427
The suicide mission affects the Reapers, and the team is crucial to executing the Suicide Mission plot in the absence of a real military backing like the Alliance in the first game.

You're essentially tasking yourself to make a small-scale version of Battle for the Citadel on your own terms in 2, so effectively the plot of 2 is the companions, and the theme of 2 is "leadership".

The only flaw I see with 2 personally is that each squadmate could've had interwoven team-dynamic narratives that led to issues with trust and betrayal, and maybe one of the characters having an arc that leads to a divide between Shepard and another squad leader during Suicide MIssion that results in a battle to the death of that companion, or a return to sense, and shows Shepard coming out on top as the leader with the most loyalty or something.

The genre of ME2 is a dirty dozen movie, like Ocean's Eleven or The Usual Suspects, not a hero epic like ME1 is, and ultimately all 3 games aspired to slightly different genres.
>>
>>750666912

>in the absence of a real military
Because 2 itself pushes you to Cerberus, making zero fucking sense, see above.

Sounds like a shit plot to revolve your supposedly interconnected trilogy about if the leadership was already proven and the companions from the previous game were abandoned.
>>
>>750687943
Not in my experience. I played it when it came out in ME3 and the experience everyone seemed to have that like "I had a great time, and suddenly THE ENDING WAS BAD!!" couldn't be further from the truth with me.
I played 3 hitting my fist in the table at Shepard saying shit that didn't seem true to the established plot. The whole "I just wanna stay and FIGHT on EARTH" crap is such a logical fallacy throughout the game I could barely take it anymore as the game went on. I didn't think we were literally just going to "cure the genophage" like that, and the Rannoch part simplifies the issue into a real baby logic, where your dialogue wheels literally just say "The quarians are wrong" or "ALL geth should die!" and the lack of a neutral option for the entire game reaaaallly started to get on my nerves.

Then there's the Citadel where "side-quests" have been reduced to extremely basic talk options, but 90% of them are like that one quest in 2 where you deliver a notepad to an asari after finding it in Samara's level, or all those delivery quests in DA2, but it's just sometimes the only thing there's left to do at all between missions here in the third Mass Effect.

The quest log doesn't work anymore, Shepard runs on with "auto-dialogue" that ripped me out of the experience, the writing clearly suffers from the loss of the writers that left the project, and missions are just straight up "Run from A to B, with Focus, M dialogue" that's somehow even narrower than the AAA design they already had in 2.

And THEN the ending hits and you go "what the FUCK???"

That's how I experienced 3. It wasn't this bullshit I keep reading about where "I had such a magical experience, but then the ending ruined everything". The ending just felt like yet another depressing misfortune on top of 20 other previous disappointments in the same game.

3 fucking sucks, my dudes.

Whats this newnigger journo revisionism? RE5 is considered one of the greats even to this day, even on solo playthrough.
Meanwhile RE4,RE6 had to get years of journo and e-eceleb fellating in order to psy-op zoomers and millenidroids that its some hiddem gem and good RE game, you can't shit on RE5 and worship 4, its not compatible.
