It's an example of how pop culture influences the mentally weak. The movie *Aracnophobia* made this word commonplace in the minds of the masses, and suddenly a lot of people started claiming to have the "condition." Note that no one asks for snake filters, even though snakes elicit a visceral reaction in humans that is just as strong, or even stronger, than that caused by spiders.

Another thing is that, as one Anon once said, if it's okay to have an arachnophobia filter to remove spiders, then I want a homophobia filter to remove the faggots from games, too
>>
>>750666750
we've known si nce before the movie came out that actual arachnophobia can be heightened in people by witnessing other people's fear of spiders. So the movie could have been a hilarious memetic super spreader of it
I liked 8 legged freaks more, but I'm biased because I love giant monsters

>snakes elicit a visceral reaction in humans that is just as strong, or even stronger, than that caused by spiders
This is also because of the same sort of social engineering. The whole 'snek' shit and cute-ifying snakes that started on tumblr spread to the rest of the normalfag internet like over a decade ago. Now obviously this doesn't make people comfortable with snakes in real life but when you get 10 years of picrel tier images spread across the internet then people don't find virtual snakes scary like they do with spiders.
>>
>>750668154
we always were scared of them, we just didn't get the chance to voice it until recently. also why do you get if it's just filters? don't enable it.

I was eight years old and the bees in Donkey Kong Country terrified me.
Then I saw DKC2 had a whole world of just bees I refused to play it until nearly 6 years later.
Spiders do nothing mostly because they don't fly. Flying insects are much worse than ones that do not fly.
>>
Most fictional spiders aren’t even really spiders, just giant evil spider-shaped monsters that aren’t designed with realism in mind even ignoring their size. Shelob had a fucking mouth. Of course giant monsters that want to kill you are scary.

I don’t give a fuck about real spiders and will leave them alone when I see one in the house since they’ll eat other bugs, but big monsters are scary.

>>

Black Widows and Brown Recluse have entered the chat. Despite what spider apologists want you to believe, their bites can kill you easily
>>
>>750669478
There have been no reported deaths from black widows since 1983 (when they started tracking it), and none from brown recluses.
>>
>>750668290
Actually the multiple nostrils is very disgusting
>>
>>750669698
probably due to prevalence of anti venom. IIRC the sydney funnel web (middle in OP's image) is a top 3 venomous spider in the world but there are few deaths because they reside largely in sydney and there is anti-venom everywhere
>>
>>750669478
I know someone who got bit by their eye by a brown recluse and it melted the skin. They had a crazy looking scar for like 15 years but its faded now and just looks like a weird white spot on their face.

They're just not "deadly." They pose a risk to people that are immunocompromised, but you can survive bites from either without medical treatment. Compare it to a water moccasin in the same woods that will likely kill you without antivenin.

As an Australian, i am not really scared of spiders, just wary. It has been over 40 years since the last reported/known death by a spider bite here.
Honestly, huntsman spiders are far more dangerous as they can squish themselves into really tight spaces, and there have been quite a few incidents where a huntsman crawls out of a space inside a car thus startling them or worse, you put the sun visor down and one falls on you.
>>
>>750670650
>It has been over 40 years since the last reported/known death by a spider bite here.
The spiders have just become better at hiding the bodies or making it look like an accident.

I can understand the fear of tiny spiders you'll never see that are venomous, since they can actually fuck you up in a meaningful way. But these massive spiders, they can't realistically do much to you if they wanted to, and biologically they'll want to stay away from us as much as possible. What is it in these people's brains that makes them mortified of spiders but not dogs, cats, horses, etc which are commonplace and can fuck you up way more.

Had one of these lil fellas trapped in my fridge earlier when I opened it up it sprang out and rappelled its way down the inside of the door. Had to nudge it down onto the floor so it wouldn't get squished when I closed the door again. I think it's a she? Whatever, it's okay with me as long as it keeps eating everything else. I appreciate how jumping spiders "acknowledge your presence" by turning to look at you when you approach them. Most other spiders just remain uncannily still, making it impossible to tell if they are looking at you or not.

I'll take spiders over cockroaches. Although, a fear of spiders might do me some good. I have no problem sticking my hand near black widows and brown recluses to take pictures of them and I honestly have no idea if either of those can jump. I just know they'll fuck you up.

Gonzo oversimplification. Noone ever needed a movie to fear spiders. Fuck, black widows were horror in pop culture long before that movie even existed, to the point of "black widow" being appropriated as a term used for a specific kind of murderous woman, also long before the movie existed.
The difference is the general pussification in western society, and the growing belief that your problems should be everyone else's problems.

It helps when you think about how not only do a lot of people sincerely find them to be beautiful but I'd also feel sorry for it if it got hurt or killed by someone for no good reason.

Still kind of creepy to look at though. I used to think wolf spiders were horrific because of the eyes and fangs but really it's their long legs. If the legs were shorter, it would practically look like a real-life cartoon character.

Anything they can catch. They're not very mobile they're not hunting for food they usually keep in their burrows (except for males)
This list is primarily roaches and any other bugs, not including beetles usually (most tarantulas don't bother eating beetles), worms crickets whatever. The occasional soft small lizard that might find their way into burrows. They don't hunt birds despite the name. But they'd be capable of it and probably have killed birds before. There were old drawings from explorers in the 1600s (it might have been in the 1800s) of an Avicularia (pink toe) catching a bird in like north east south America or one of the islands.

It's hard to tell because of the lightning but that's likely a grammastola pulchra, generally considered like a top 3 most docile tarantula on average, not that I'm pro handling but even should that tarantula bite them the only issue they'd have is mechanical damage from the fangs themselves, the venom would just be very basic and tame as far as tarantula venom goes, concentrated irritation and maybe mild fatigue at worst. Even then a spider like that is more likely to kick their urticating hairs before biting. Tarantulas aren't bite first creatures at ALL. 99% of the time they will run first or kick hairs. You have to be constantly provoking them or surprise them. If you handle a spider you have to sort of gauge their current temperment, poke them with a paint brush first

>What is it in these people's brains that makes them mortified of spiders but not dogs, cats, horses, etc which are commonplace and can fuck you up way more.
The actual answer is just tribal evolution. Most domesticated animals, as much as we like to think that "we controlled and evolved THEM", in reality evolved ALONGSIDE of us. Dogs especially have evolved faces that resemble and trigger the same pheromones in us that we get dumped into our brain when we look at a human baby. This is also why the Chinese are so inhuman for eating them. They're basically eating babies.

On the other hand, similar to how cats get massively scared of cucumbers, humans get scared naturally of any shapes that tend to have poison, like long scaley noodles or two small round orbs with 8 legs. The humans that were less afraid of them (before we unlocked antivenom tech) just simply died more often.

Yes, actually. Jumping spiders (and wolf spiders) are super social in the wild with one another, so they are entirely capable of bonding with a person.
They can remember you if you're good to them, even more so than a normal pet since they're full capable of recognizing a human being, rather than just vague shapes and smells and shit like dogs or monkeys.

I have a pathological fear of spiders because as a kid this massive black widow made a web in our backyard and we had to move out temporarily and call the exterminator. I had nightmares and stress dreams involving spiders and black widows attached to my body all the way through college.

To this day even pictures of spiders scare me, but especially black widows. Just picking out a stock image for this post was unsettling. And I think the fear is warranted, if one of these fuckers bites you you're dead within hours unless you get medical attention (if you're a kid, which I was at the time, if you're an adult it takes longer and you have a better chance at survival but it's still very much lethal)
>>

The funny thing was everyone involved pretty much went "yeah you know what you're fucking stupid but I believe it" The guy whose car I hit was fucking livid until I explained, said "No I know it's my fault it'll be on my insurance" (which no shit it would be he was parked) and the police didn't even caution me after alc-testing me. I thought I was hyper fucked because I hit a parked car but nope, nothing.
My insurance went to the fucking moon though for a year. I'm pretty sure spiders work for big insure now.

I looked into this for a couple seconds because I was also curious how very very dumb animals form such relationships. Whether true or not, it boils down to that they've probably been doing it for a LONG time, maybe dozens of millennia if not hundreds and basically while their brains are terrible their habit to form this symbiotic relationship is just a logic gateway their brain does. Little frog underneath it? Don't trigger aggression. A fish is cleaning a shark or crocodile? The brain just stopped firing a combat signal a long time ago specifically for the sensations and shapes and colors the symbiote embodies because the ones that didn't didn't die of teeth rot. That's just what I got from rudimentary research.
>>
>>750681070
it's like anything else in evolution, the trait of ignoring the frog appeared randomly and because the other spiders's eggs got eaten it gradually became more prolific

From rudimentary research it's because bugs have brains the size of pencil lead so the shape of the spider ass helps other spiders to understand it's looking at something it wants to mate with and not attack. There's maybe an esoteric conversation how the spider brain is looking for geometric patterns, like what humans see in drug trips talking about the geometric basis of reality/atoms. There's also an esoteric conversation how the mantis shrimp can see like 1000 colors and it's very aggressive like it's a malevolent spirit trapped in a matrix. Color out of space.

I'm much softer on spiders when I put them into perspective. Spiders kill the worst kinds of bugs imaginable when it comes to diseases etc. (flies) - and they don't just kill them, they kill them in the most horrific way possible. Wrapping them up in webs, keeping them paralyzed and cocooned, slowly digesting their insides into liquid mush while they're still alive.

Flies deserve the most brutal deaths imaginable, and spiders give it to them.

Arachnophobia is such a low IQ normie fear. They are literally harmless (besides brown recluses and black widows). Just ignore them and they'll ignore you. Wolf spiders have probably the second best vision among spiders after jumping spiders, competing only with other spiders with specialized eyes like the ogre-faced spiders. So they're also very likely to be able to recognize a human vs. a large predator that eats spiders or something they could eat, and so are less likely to be needlessly aggressive.

The funny part is that the vast majority of parasitoid wasps are completely harmless and are beneficial to humans. Of the ones that aren't completely harmless, most of these are relatively large dirt daubers and shit who have extremely weak venom and aren't very aggressive for a wasp of their size. And then there are tarantula hawks.

I think this place is full of performative liars and/or pussies. The shape of a snake is not creepy. A snake in the wild is not frightening unless it is a venemous one you encounter on accident.

The shape of a spider is slightly creepy due to their unnatural movement and general “gangliness” with a few exceptions, but also not something to be scared of unless you are a woman. I own a snake and regularly handle spiders that wander into my house unless they are too fast to hold (some species of ground dwellers or grass spiders) or might have mild toxicity (yellow sac, brown recluse)

They never learned to throw a knife. They spray spiders because it's easy, but then become fearful as the spider dashes away and they have no idea where it will next show up. Either capture a spider in a plastic container, or learn to throw a knife (assuming you have easily repaired internal plaster walls). Spiders are basically just conditioned fear of the unknown, and gamers often tend to be faggots who are afraid of anything they can't control (such as conversations with women). Just knife or catch the fucking thing instead of spraying it and finding its corpse in your bed later. Punch it or step on it. The only reason anyone has arachnophobia is because they are avoiding conflict with their pussy little Mortein spray and then fearing the spider ambushing them (which will never happen). I sound insane but huntsmans are fucking quick and plastic containers aren't always an option. Braining a huntsman with the hilt of a knife is actually more reliable than containers even if you aren't practiced with knife throwing distances yet.

But, if you keep your boots outside and you live in Australia absolutely blast your boots with Mortein. I'm not saying you shouldn't kill spiders in advance, I'm just explaining why faggots are afraid of them.

The text is in Portuguese so the lives in Brazil like me.
Spiders huge like that are most likely the local offshoot of tarantulas. Not only are they harmless when it comes to poison, they are also somewhat docile. Their sting hurts a lot.
The easiest way to dispatch them is simply open your door/window and gently set them free using a broom or a housecleaning shovel.
They're even sluggish, they won't activate their turbo autist mode unless you really fuck with them.

This.
The absolute most dangerous spiders when it comes to living a daily life are the giga small ones who can get inside your clothing and shoes and bite you as a defense mechanism after being squished.

throwing knifes? that's your big idea?
Okay, if this was you finding one such spider innawoods with no one around that could potentially get hurt or call the cops because Karen McKnickersinaknot is having her usual tantrum for the 40th time that month, that's no awful advice.
but in an appartment building or a household? you're clearly incappable of processing second order and third order effects that comes from chucking knives around.
but to you point, I think you might be on to something.
A thrown object is potentially a good idea.
Weighted sandbags with ball bearings would probably be a good and ideal projectile.
its a soft, blunt object that, with enough mass and kinetic energy behing, could blow a spider that size right the fuck out. humans literally conquered and won the evolutionary arms race through learning how to throw stuff. it makes complete sense.
>>
>>750664282
Arachnophobia is a primordial fear. No different from the fear of the dark. It has been proven time and again that spiders illicit fear responses in babies and children to a far higher degree than other test items/animals.

The fear of the dark can be beaten out of you through modern conveniences. Your ancestors were terrified of it, even with flame torches and such. Travelling at night was considered suicide.

literally put up dragonfly-shaped objects that are bigger than your local variety of wasps and enjoy never having to deal with their bullshit ever again.
SwarmTheory actually made a video on this subject matter, thus where I take the info on that.

I have a confession, bros. 10-15 years ago I had this little simple picture frame with some Japanese or Chinese word for "peace" on it. A little spider was on the edge of it. I took a picture of it, but ended up killing him.

I've regretted ever since. Gotta find that photo some time.

>does LITERALLY nothing
>will never love you or acknowledge you because it's brain literally isn't wired to do that no matter how many copers who want it to just be a scaly dog will say
>mostly owned by freaks who get off live feeding them
Ehh

But enough about women.
>>
>>750693157
You’re right above the love part, they can become more tolerant but will never love you like a mammal. Getting off on feeding them is just some weird projection though. Can you even imagine the possibility of people who likes animals and don’t have weird sex stuff attached to that or have you just been raped by the internet

I just like knife throwing okay, but yeah you and >>750692712 are right. A beanbag or any other wide blunt instrument is a better idea (less fun though).

I flail around like retard whenever I feel something tickle because I think it's a spider. Yet, I also happily chase after vipers to try and pick them up. My granddad will just grab spiders and lob them outside, yet has a freak out over the mere idea of snakes existing.

Wasn't a black widow, but some kind of spider touched the base of my dick once (probably a hobo spider)
>laying in bed fapping using a sock that had been stuffed towards the back of my sock drawer
>look down as I'm about to cum
>there's a fucking spider on the base of my dick, head and front legs resting on my cock
>can't even muster a scream, just let out a low pitiful moaning "Noooo" at the idea that a spider might just bite my dick and flail my hand at it, swiping it off and accidentally slapping my dick in the process
>roll out of bed, falling painfully to the ground in the process while brushing myself all over
>later while reflecting on it think that it was most likely a female spider
>hit by the realization that if it was that it was the first time a female had ever touched my dick
>the first female who touched my dick wasn't even human and I had panicked and swatted her away while wailing pitifully
>>
>>750694719
Well, yeah. Spiders have 8 legs, but no hands. They can't hold a knife, but they can wear as many as 4 pairs of shoes.
