Goth was never a real subculture. It was a fashion style that later got mixed up with various genres like industrial, post-punk, darkwave and alternative rock. Even goth history is just a mishmash of things since barely anyone knows what a Visigoth actually was. You might as well call yourself goth if you own a pair of skinny jeans and listened to Happy House since the term is inherently meaningless.
I have to remind myself that zoomers literally have a brain block in understanding what Goth is.
