>>750640426Honestly it's a pretty grating game. It's an endless barrage bullshitery, without any real payoff. You have to put in some easy parts after the hard parts, to make us appreciate the victory.
I’d rather just play Cave Story again.
>>750640426rabi-ribi exists and ties with silksongbut yes. you would be hard pressed to find another metroidvania that good
Game peaks with KarmelitaI'm so happy my nigga Sherma made it though. I was sweating all game hoping he would be safe. Literally the only light in the dark world of Pharloom and the only character I cared about.

>>750641480For me it’s first sinner. Karmelita is a close second though, I just hate how often she blocks your attacks and the fact that her spinning spikes move weirdly can come from the opposite direction she was spinning which looks and feels kinda janky
>>750641480>Karmelita is the best, because she is the hardest.
But regular Hollow Knight is a flat out better game.
>>750642024Silksong is better in every single way, thohaps.
>>750641995Karmelita is best because she's the most fun to fight with her dodges and mix ups to match your own she feels more like a rival battle than Lace.

>>750641995I didn't think she was the hardest. I had way more trouble with both Lost Lace and the Unravelled than Karmelita. It's just Karmelita is 10/10 storytellling, fight, music, design, everything.
>>750640426Rabi-Ribi, Aeterna Noctis, Rusted Moss. I like all of them more.

>>750640426the gauntlets ruined it, ironically despite taking fucking forever to release they convinced me the game needed more time in the oven. the charm system in the og was also way better than whatever silksong had going on. probably still one of the best in the genre though yeah.
>>750648245Silksong is incomplete and has no bossrush mode. Its unfair to compare the two
>>750649641wrong in the case of silksong, tevi or rusted moss in those games navigating the map/moving around without getting killed by hazards or dispatching monsters is a constant part of the gameplaythere are no "empty" moments like in hollow knight, ender lilies or god forbid igavanias
>>750640426It's the peak of action games, really.
>>750640426As someone who’s played a ton of the genre. I agree, at least gameplay wise. There’s certain things I thing other games have done better, but collectively it’s the best one.
>>750640426i dunno, it's pretty flawed. if this is the peak metroidvanias must be a shit genre.

Not so fast!
>>750640426Dlc fucking never i guess
Its funny watching anons trying to be contrarian and saying stuff "Well X is better" followed by a bunch of delusional rumblings. HK and Silksong are the peak of the genre and the only game that remotely came close to them so far has been Nine Sols.
>>750650242The game is already a dlc
>>750649843Hazards and monsters that have no real threat of killing you because it's easy to just run through. Same as Hollow Knight.
Why did /v/ get raped so hard by this game?
>>750650584That's what happens when mediocrity is held up as something great.
The places I think Silksong was weak was the pacing, how the world flows into each other, and on aspects of the story. I don't think the storyline is particularly strong and could have been rewritten, I fundamentally don't understand the plot, why is Grand Mother Silk awakening, why was she asleep, why did she create the weavers, why was she feuding with them, why is she haunting her own civilization, why did the weavers run away. I think there are strong elements there for a good story, especially the conductors/architects etc. but I don't think they did a good job. There isn't enough HEAT created by a HEEL villain. In Hollow Knight I absolutely fucking despised the Radiance because the game MADE me kill Myla, poor innocent little Myla who just wanted to sing her songs and mine for treasure. I wanted revenge, it didn't matter that Radiance had a backstory and reasons, there was a finality to the final fight. In Silksong, GMS is not an effective heel, has unclear motivations, and then turns babyface anyway at the end when she gives Hornet silk. Lace is another character that you can tell the devs liked too much to want to make her a full villain.
>>750641482Its the other way around. Silksong fans are fundamentally hostile to good gameplay and being respected as players. They are only invested in garbage fan service and time wasting mechanics due to ~the world~ while abhorring strange concepts like good pacing, storyline progression, mood etc
>>750640426>action platformer gameplay is half-baked because of the exploration aspects>exploration is half-baked because of the action-platformer elements "Metroidvania" is just an inherently shit style of game.
More like Troonsong lmao
>>750640518>tranny game is when it's not gacha "game"ok faggot.
>>750650789I'm not following your intelligent post up with anything close to the thought you put into it but it's due to the gay ass relationship the writers have with the story and characters Tumblr tier shit going on behind the scenes most likely: we need gay representation, every notable character should be a woman, every girl character needs to be good at heart, we can't expand on filthy men doing stuff so leave that blank etc All this guides the story more than the story evolving naturally by itself. Hollow Knight clearly started with Hallownest first. Built from the ground up.
Is there a bigger Metroidvania than this? The map is fucking huge, I think it's bigger than both castles in SOTN.
>>750650335these post-release threads are quite funny, it's like no anon has quite figured out the best angle for posturing about his superior gamer taste, and so we get this nonsense about muh difficulty and le cultural impact and the character-assassinating hunter's journal flavor text, instead of concrete value judgementsi would like to complain about these games to people with a modicum of comprehension, instead of being surrounded by such profound posts like "looks like a flash game, why would i even pay for that?" and "i fucking hate games where the player character talks" those are REAL OPINIONS, expressed by REAL ANONYMOUS posters

>>750651092Yeah, I became aware of that while playing. Shakra for instance is a god awful character. Hey look she's strong and cool and badass and has no weaknesses, isn't that cool?I think they did an okay job with the story, I just don't think it was as strong as HK. I think if I were doing it, I would make "Silk" be a bigger element and driver of the story. Maybe they feud over control of it like the Spice in Dune. Maybe Silk comes alive like the Abyss and resists GMS or tears her apart, idk
>>750650335I still don't like HK, because it's genuinely crap and highly derivative of other games, but I respect Silksong for having fair combat and level design, which is a rarity in Metroidvanias. Until act 3 at least.
>>750651149Afterimage is fuckhuge but it’s not as polished as Silksong.
>>750651496you are entitled to your own opinion and all that but can you point out the unfair elements in act 3?
>>750651902Well there's a boss where the ground disappears and you have to fight it while bouncing off a wall on the opposite side. If you didn't plan for it by bringing projectiles, which I didn't, it's a very miserable fight. I did beat it on my first try but I wasn't happy.
>>750651470There were something like 10x the amount of dialogue lines in SS and it amounted to nothing The story is all over the place and has no anchor or focus. You have the GMS stuff, Lace stuff, the industrial exploitation stuff, the internal factions in the Citadel, Weavers period, Void stuff etc, conductor period for the citadel, experiments, refugee/pilgrim stuff. Snail Shamans, blue gooNone of this is particularly coherent or fits together. Its added on top of each other. GMS, for example, has nothing to do with industrial exploitation. And Weaver alien tech has nothing to do with anyone else. Its just tacked on. Compare HK. You have the city and the crisis. Radiance and PK are locked in struggle. Everything flows from that. Soul experiments? Due to the very real crisis. Void experiments? Pale Kings solution. The more you learn, the more you understand. Oh that's where Hornet comes from! Etc. everything fits neatly together. There's not nearly the same care in SS world building. Things are tacked on haphazardly
>>750651381Look at all these games anon needs to pile up to reach a fraction of Silksong's power.
>>750652110are you talking about the Coral Tower Gauntlet? Cause thats not a boss
>>750652213All lore-based games are like that. There's no coherent narrative. People seem to enjoy it so it's not for you I guess.
>>750640426It was just okay. Pretty forgettable because of how generic it is.
>>750652213>refugee/pilgrim stuffThis stuff was genuinely great. Best part of the game for me. All the naive devout pilgrim NPCs trying their best in a world they are too weak to exist in. Gave me serious feels. Especially that little guy's funeral where they just hurl his fragile little corpse into the grotto at the start.
>>750641181>act 3 gets tedious and i don't know whyLet’s see:>hardly any new areas to explore>no new upgrades/items>no new enemies, just normal enemies randomly given a buff that makes them more obnoxious to kill/avoid>”final boss” is just a rehash/reskin of Lace 2 with the obnoxious buff mentioned aboveAnd on the topic of that last thing, I wouldn’t even have minded if they reused Lace for the final boss if it was done in an Ornstein/Smough-esque way as a duo fight against her and GMS, but TC literally picked one of worst and laziest options possible. If this game really was the peak of the genre, it wouldn’t have any of the objective flaws I pointed out in this post. And one more thing:>inb4 anyone “filtered” or “Git Gud”Laugh while you can fuckers, you won’t be smiling when the code monkey goes full Looney Troon and either turns Hollow Knight into more soulless propaganda or gets TC shut down over transphobia allegations.

>>750654194I just hope that the ARG game isn't a hint that they're experimenting with doing the cliche thing that indie studios like to do of swapping mediums from 2D to 3D following a big success. They have a great team of traditional artists.
>>750654716Honestly, as nice as 9S’s phenomenal art style surviving a potential transition to 3D would be, it wouldn’t be the end of the world for me if it stayed exclusive to 9S, so long as Red Candle successfully brought all the mechanical and writing quality 9S also had into the new 3D thing.
>>750652598Yeah but it doesn't mix well with whatever is going on in the main citadel. They're all undead except some people are inducted? For whose benefit? Conductors or GMS? No one is actually singing any songs though. They don't have a grand choir that we see actually perform music. What do the pilgrims actually *get* for making the trip? For Hallownest, who also has a form of pilgrim's route, the goal is obviously just to be inside Hallownest, the richest and most comfy place to live, lavish with amenities See what I mean?
>>750656194How about there is another Radiance-style moth entity that is the true creator and owner of silk, and the GMS entity usurped and stole it and built the citadel, but because she isn't the real possessor of silk she becomes jealous and insecure, and sends her bugs to capture all those capable of producing silk so she can either possess them or wipe them out, and the climax involves re-awakening the older entity and setting it on GMS to restore silk back to its true owner. I don't know, I'm just spitballing ideas I think would be a more satisfying ending.

>>750656194Yeah but it doesn't mix well with whatever is going on in the main citadel. They're all undead except some people are inducted? For whose benefit? Conductors or GMS?Agree with you there. For all the threat and scope the lore claims the Haunting has, it’s quite selective on who it >zombifies so the plot can happen. No one is actually singing any songs though. If Choral Chambers is an indicator, any pilgrims that can sing well enough to maintain GMS’s sleep have their life force drained and imbibed in the countless statues you find there, presumably so they can be made to sing automatically and indefinitely.>They don't have a grand choir that we see actually perform music.Once again, the life force-imbued statues of Choral Chambers seem to be that “choir”. >What do the pilgrims actually *get* for making the trip?Either slavery or death, which still eventually leads to slavery anyways because of GMS’s silk. The whole “pilgrim’s journey” of Pharloom is a giant honeypot schemed up by GMS and the Weavers, then continued by the Conductors to get free slaves and ensure loyalty from their subjects, with things like the Last Judge acting as bouncers to knock off anyone who either doesn’t make the cut or smart enough to realize they’re being had and therefore pose a threat to the conspiracy.
dae like act 1 the best?
>>750657243Yeah but we should be able to see the actual function of the Conductor's citadel system at least partially. Here is where they sing, this is how the sound goes to GMS, this is the audience chamber here is where they practice and these are the (giant) locker rooms for the pause between acts etc etc The Citadel does not appear to function. Enemies are just themed enemies and not people

>>750659365In the original pretty much everything about the story revolved in some way around the Radiance vs Pale King conflict, and every area had its own piece to say about that history and of how the local inhabitants came to respond to the infection. With Silksong, they seem to have a harder time of committing to a single central conflict to tie everything into. There's the Weavers v GMS, Citadel v old Pharloom, and Pharloom v the Abyss. A lot of great environmental storytelling is built up about the conflict between the Citadel and old Pharloom, but then the Act 2 Climax is all about GMS and the Weavers with the Citadel stuff not really factoring into any of that - in Act 3 everything gets hijacked by Abyss goop.

I didn't like how unlike with Hollow Knight bosses didn't drop important upgrades.I understand that they put them in the weaver dens for lore reasons, but it felot shitty be to beat a boss and get no loot, no upgrades, no mask shards, no new tools, etc.A beaten boss usually just clared the way, nothing more. It just didn't feel as rewarding.
>>750675425I know exactly how you feel, the Skarr gank duo at the top of Hunter’s March was my first experience with this.I even got up there early by kiting and bouncing on the flying larvae, and I never felt so swindled when I finally beat them, they dropped nothing and there was only a tiny midget cricket shit pile of rosaries in the next room.
>>750676771it could have been fixed by leaning on soulsfaggotryhave bosses drop lore items with no gameplay effect, just a little description that gives you extra insight about the worldyou could get a little piece of dialogue with certain npcs if you have the right item, maybe they'll trade you certain items for roseriesthis is very cheap work-wise and would have made the experience less shitty
>>750640426I mean... yeah. Hard to really argue with that unless you suck. >so you're saying no other metroidvanias or goodNo, dumbass. Lots of good ones. There is a metroidvania I personally liked slightly more than silksong. But its still the peak of the genre.

It’s time to admit that this is not coming out this year
I personally think Silksong has much higher highs than hollow knight, and much better movement, but I do think Act 1 kinda holds it back a little. Its a lot more linear compared to Hollow Knight in the early game, with only two major intended ways to start Act 2. Clawline, which is probably the best movement upgrade in the game for me, isn't learned until act 2, as well.
>>750682854>those side quests were abysmal, no idea why they made fetch mmoquests a thing Something something Hornet learning not to be a tyrannical cunt like GMS, even though it was shown she already wasn’t because she inherited her father’s empathy and was likely taught to be the antithesis to everything GMS/Pharloom stood for by Herrah every chance she got.

>>750664645>soulIt really just comes down to this for me, and a lot of it has to do with HK's soundtrack, atmosphere, and plot compared to SS's. There are a lot of examples to choose from, but just compare Dream No More to Sister of the Void.In HK, there's this immense foreboding as you enter the Black Egg, with distant echoes and an understated violin playing as panels illuminate the ground beneath the Knight with each step. You break the Hollow Knight's bindings one by one as the strings swell to a crescendo, culminating in a bellowing roar echoing from deep within your now-freed sibling. Halfway through, the epic music is replaced by a melancholic violin, and you're forced to put your sibling down while it self-mutilates in a desperate attempt to purge the infection stirring inside it. You're whisked into a distant dream to challenge the source of the contagion plaguing Hallownest, only for the sun in the background to unfurl and reveal the Radiance. Void consumes the dream, and the forsaken god, whose voice once resounded in a frantic bid to not be forgotten, goes silent. The Pale King's forlorn offspring are finally put to rest.https://youtu.be/ze0Rk-m0w2A?t=274The GMS ending comes close to reaching this sense of grandeur, with Hornet having to bind her repeatedly to drain her silk and supersede her, but hers is an otherwise short and underwhelming fight. Comparatively, Silksong's true ending is like if Hornet showed up and fused with the Radiance, and you had to fight Hornet 3 to beat the game (i.e. Hornet 2, but with orange goop attacks). The end cutscene is a wet fart of a deus ex machina and a clumsy, last-minute attempt at linking SS to HK's Dream No More ending. Lace herself is an uncompelling character with juvenile, self-serving motivations, and her self-pitying spiel to Hornet before she plunges into the Void doesn't serve to redeem her. I, as a player, have no incentive to save Lace other than to prevent the Void from consuming Pharloom.
>>750664998For every enemy that is playtested for the Knight, there is at the least half an enemy playtested for the Hornet. And its only as functional as it is, because of how polished it is. But its still pretty sour.
Silksong is a monumental downgrade in terms of world structure and especially atmosphere. It has a mildly better platforming mechanics but i think all combat additions were either half assed or completely over-designed and unnecessary like shell shards and only hurt the combat formula. These devs also never managed to move past "the most dangerous boss move is his hitbox randomly teleporting inside the player model" boss design even diehard fans of the first game criticized it for. The map is fucking barren for interesting exploration rewards. The game is twice as big as the first HK but it has the same amount of mask upgrdes, this alone makes it a complete slog to traverse, but they also gated a huge chunk of charms behind vendors and not exploration for some reason, hell not even bosses and gauntlets give you jack shit for rewards.I'm still baffled this game has diehard defenders honestly. If i want good precision platforming i would rather play lost crown or aeterna noctis. For combat i will play Nine Sols. For a huge sprawling interconnected world with tons of shit to find i would replay salt and sanctuary.
>>750693468>These devs also never managed to move past "the most dangerous boss move is his hitbox randomly teleporting inside the player model" boss design even diehard fans of the first game criticized it for. They doubled down on it by making almost every boss do double damage from the start
>>750693468I like that they gave enemy AI delaying postures in their build up to throw the player's dodge timing out of whack. Those huge rats in Greymoor were a great example. Instead of just charging they will sometimes do a scream/taunt before the charge to throw you off. HK's combat didn't have stuff like this.
>>750640518Worse than that, it's tranime. Australians are the worst weebs.
>>750693468Just because it has its issues compared to the first, it doesnt keep it from utterly mogging the competition, and it has a lot of uniquely great things, so yeah it has a lot of defenders obviously>for combat i will play nine solslol lmaoI dont get how people are so wowed by the most braindead dumbed down version of sekiro combat. The bosses and enemies in that game are comically uninteractive they are on a fucking tape recorder.
>>750693881>The bosses and enemies in that game are comically uninteractiveThis is so funny coming from silksong defender
>>750693468>>750693565There is a balance. Some bosses like Groal and Beastfly its... egregious But on the other hand of the spectrum there is the mad chef and the Skull Tyrant.
>>750693943Enemies in silksong actually have their AI avidly care about your actions. For crying out loud, bosses like Lace will actually parry and counter you, the fact 9S has practically zero instances of this is fucking laughable considering its a sekiro clone. Also, silksong encourages relentless agression because theres the stagger mechanic that greatly rewards you for being able to hit constantly and repeatedly, that paired with the cooler enemy AI and more fleshed out dynamic moveset makes it so much more fun to dance with them.Even fatass enemies without knockback are often super interactive, like using your own clever movement or use of crest to make Savage Beastfly go right where you want it.Enemies like the pin wielder knights in the citadel, the sentinels leading to the city in the blasted steps, the ambush guys in the swamp, etc are genuinely dynamic cool foes that do cool shit and their entire AI is dictated by what youre actually doing. Its a real interactive fight. Meanwhile 9S bosses have little to no remarkable behavior beyond trying to get in distance then doing whatever attack. Theres also way more cases of reflecting shit back at enemies or niggerlicious flying enemies or.. or...Sure there are some shitty outliers like Trobbio but they are a minority overall.Maybe 9S fanboys should go play sekiro for once. That game does every single aspect of enemy and their attacks infinitely better
>>750694090I feel like when your difficulty solely, and the key word is solely, comes from the fact that the boss has double touch damage at all times, and the attacks themselves aren't very threatening, then you have failed at creating a good boss fight.

>>750694107>Enemies in silksong actually have their AI avidly care about your actions. Both silksong and nine sols use the same type of ai scripting on the same engine no less. Spearfags will change their behaviour depending on the range as an example, doing either short range slashes or long range charges. Specters will counter teleport out of your attacks to leave a landmine behind.>Also, silksong encourages relentless agression because theres the stagger mechanic that greatly rewards you for being able to hit constantly and repeatedlyNine Sols has stagger mechanic too, in fact it has a far wider variety of them depending on the enemy. Parrying red attacks causes stagger, charged parries create entire windows of opportunity for punishment, talisman detonation has a stagger and several bosses have unique stagger states associated with them. Some enemies have shields you can break for a stagger too.>like using your own clever movement or use of crest to make Savage Beastfly go right where you want it.I dunno what this word salad even means but the very fact you're trying to dickride silksong's noninteractive flying shitboxes is hilarious.>Maybe 9S fanboys should go play sekiro for once. 9 sols is literally, LITERALLY a huge mechanical step up over sekiro. Both talisman detonation and charged deflect are awesome mechanics, charged deflect is by far the best idea of the game and there's nothing like it in silksong as well.

You can do almost anything with almost anything. It doesnt matter if its UE or Unity or godot or love2d or whatever the fuck, you can genuinely go ahead and make whatever the hell you want!either way it should be blatant how much more reactive silksong enemies are by sheer common sense. >9S has a stagger mechanic too!!All your methods you mentioned are one-button things you can do while playing really passively. If you cant see why someone would prefer actually having to hammer the enemy and constantly back and forth with them instead of getting rewarded for free by playing simon says then thats actual retardation>9S is a huge mechanical step over sekiro lol lmaoYeah the charged parry is okay and the talismans are based. The back and forth with the enemy being entirely removed, the zero commitance attacks, the much blander AI and the much blander interpretation of perilous attacks aint great. 9S also hardly has enemy animations and attack chains being affected by your deflects which adds so much to style and feel and fun. Like nigga, theres a reason why sekiro and HK alike mog 9S so much in reception and popularity. 9S is the only one of the three that is partly a worse version of an existing game's combat. Not to mention 9S's utter dogshit hitboxes compared to sekiro's good hitboxes because fromsoft actually bothered to make the game feel good when not doing the default canned answer to everything.

>>750640426There is a reason the genre has become Hollw-likes instead of Metroidvanias. Its only flaw is it is too difficult for the majority of Metroidvania players causing them to lose their minds anytime the game is mention. If it didn't filter so many players by forcing them to pay attention to simple boss patterns and react it would be an uncontested peak of its genre.
>>750698617based post but I still enjoyed silksong more
There is never going to be a sincere discussion about this game because the current generation of gamers are idiots. They legit believe that Elden Ring, Doom Eternal, and Silksong are the peak of gaming. You would have to have brain damage to even put these games in your top ten games of all time. The amount of cognitive dissonance it takes to base your whole personality on the fact that you beat a difficult game and then simultaneously claim that it is actually not a difficult game is quite impressive though.

That one annoying faggot who comes into every single Metroidvania thread to shill Nine Sols perfectly encapsulates why modern /v/ sucks ass at games. Nine Sols is mid as fuck at basically everything that makes a Metroidvania game>Very limited exploration/movement abilities, you get a double jump and that's it>Almost no sense of map progression, unlocks, or backtracking as related to your movement progression. You head through every zone basically once, with the sole exception of the central hub, and your route is dictated entirely by the story unlocking doors at fixed progression points>Similarly, your combat isn't about your items, abilities, or positioning, it's a route reaction test where you mash parry and wait the enemies to give you talisman openings. You have a few comparatively minor variations in playstyle, but the charm/jade system is calibrated to require extreme sacrifices to do anything super exotic, and generally the game is terrified of giving you any abilities that could plausibly circumvent the Bop-It gameplay loopNine Sols is genuinely shallow on a mechanical level, propped up almost solely by excellent art design and story. The fact that virtually every fucking Metroidvania thread these days turns into a Nine Sols shill thread shows how little the "regulars" on this board value depth or freedom of expression anymore. They want the one button parryslop gameplay and railroaded world design because they've forgotten how to play videogames.
>>750699197So? Anything is possible if you reload 2000 times. Same logic as any "impossible" challenge run on YT. You'll just keep cursing and reloading until it works.

>>750699564Not every game has to be a metroidvania to be good, you wouldn't judge Bayonetta by how good it is at backtracking through an interconnected world. Nine Sols is barely a metroidvania, but is a solid 2D action game if parryslop is your jam. The problem is the tards on this board who THINK it's what a Metroidvania is and that it's a model for Metroidvanias to follow. It's exposing the posters, not the game.
>>750696814The Lost Crown is in the same tier as Silksong.
>>750699732>The problem is the tards on this board who THINK it's what a Metroidvania is and that it's a model for Metroidvanias to follownta but I would say the same about HK fans
My opinion of Silksong softened considerably after waiting a few months and doing a second playthrough of it. However I still maintain that it's got a pretty bad case of the devs saying "yo our playtesters who have 1500 hours of practice killed this boss in one try, nerf everything." Once you already have a rough, half-remembered idea of how things work, Silksong is pretty fun. But that first playthrough is absolutely miserable. I think that's a valid complaint.
>>750700021HK is at least a Metroidvania that follows the conventions of the Metroidvania genre. There's no denying that it is a modern Metroidvania game. It's not the same thing as that one terminally online anon who brings up games like Nine Sols, which are only 10% Metroidvania at best, and says >yo this genre sucks ass, I hate positioning and navigating, look at my 2D Sekiro game instead.
>>750700039Nah, the Trobbio guy (the indie dev that voiced him and helped playtest the game due to being IRL friends with TC) said in an interview that the game was much harder during the testing, so they consciously made it a lot easier over the years. It's just the same type of game as Cuphead or Sekiro, long and hard on your first playthrough, but trivial once you know everything. So basically, a git gud game.
>>750640426Take me to the sea already
>>750700125It does, but I don't think it does the actual metroidvania parts all that well. It has a heavy emphasis on combat and boss fights, which is fine, but I feel like it becomes detrimental to the core exploration and the character progression that feeds into it. I'm also getting real sick of every indie metroidvania shoehorning in a corpse run just because HK had it
>>750700163It's not just being a git gud game, it's how you implement that difficulty. In Silksong's case it's because they clearly looked at speedrunners beating P5 in 20 minutes (nevermind guys like Fireborn put thousands of hours in the game to achieve that) and said "This is unacceptable, I can't believe someone one-cycled Gruz Mother. How can you appreciate the beauty of her two-attack moveset with that Abyss Shriek spam??" Looking back at launch month, I made pic related out of frustration at how gimped Hornet is in a fight. That's still true, it's just that after you already know in advance how to play around how gimped she is, it stops being so painful. That diagonal pogo, for example, NEVER feels good. You might learn how to play around it, but it's always contrived.
>>750700502Hunter pogo is my favourite pogo and i will not tolerate slander of any kind. Its also undeniably the best combat pogo in the game.
>>750700502Just try Cuphead please, it's much harder than Silksong and tons of kids play it, boss patterns are much more complex, you can't heal at all, no tools to spam or other crutches. The only difference is Cuphead wasn't thrust into the mainstream like Silksong was. Over 1 million gamer dads rushed to download the hyped up cute bug game and got humiliated.
>>750700725Cuphead is NOT more difficult than Silksong. I remember while i was doing practice for P5AB back in HK i 300%ed a savefile in Cuphead as a way to relax. For a casual playthrough Silksong is vastly harder than Cuphead

>>750701180Tying your tools to ammo is fine. It's just that the ammo economy is too strict by default. SS was initially HK DLC, so it's no surprise TC designed the game with experienced HK players in mind. I beat all Godhome bosses on Radiant, and I breezed through Silksong's early game, beating Savage Beastfly, Moorwing, Sister Splinter, Phantom, both Trobbio fights, Unravelled, Second Sentinel, and the High Halls gauntlet on my first attempt (Wanderer, Flintslate/Flea Brew only), and this was without upgrading my needle until Silk & Soul, since getting a nail upgrade is mandatory to enter Act 3. >>750701682I would argue the opposite. Silksong is way easier if you haven't played Hollow Knight first. There's a lot of stuff in Silksong that that fucks with your Hollow Knight muscle memory pretty hard. You don't have to unlearn habits if you pick up Silksong without any preconceived notions from the first game.
I never was a big HK fan, but after playing through Silksong, i could only think of how i liked the atmosphere and story of the first game more than the secondEverything related to the Pale King and the Hollow Knight mogs anything related to GMS and Lace so damn hard. It's not even a competition
>>750701751but i do
>>750701852
>>750701353I'm glad there's nothing as shitty as PoH in SS
>>750701908there will be eventually and you being shit at it doesnt not make it shitty. Its phenomenal for those looking for a challenge
>>750701786NTA but I can post my Embrace the Void cheevo and I still thought Silksong was 5x harder than HK.
>>750701954Having to do 30 minutes of filler bosses in each attempt is shitty no matter how you try and shake it. It's phenomenal for people with nothing better to do who wanna stroke their e-penis's over beating difficult games. I beat it and felt absolutely nothing except for the hours I wasted on it
>>750701852lmao, Well Dweller's only appeal is that it's easy and simple, you can equip every charm in the game at once, it's like the dev gave up and said whatever anything goes
>>750702023Maybe don't do things you don't enjoy? Do you have completionism or something?
>>750702023then its simply not for you. I loved it and others aswell. Why does that make you angry? Its perfectly fine to say this is not for me ill just enjoy the base game
>>750640426Nigga it's not even the peak of its own franchise.
>>750702082p5 was fine except for this fucking stupid fucking faggot right here
Listen guys, you have to love the opposite of what everyone else likes. You also get extra enjoyment by hating on popular things. If something is good it must mean it is actually bad. If you have fun with something popular you are mistaken, it's a wrong opinion to have.
>>750702234hes not that bad on a normal p5 no bindings. Its the combination of Markoth + Zote that gets most people
I wish you got the Pin Badge way earlier. There's a lot more fights in Silksong where I want to use my charged attacks than in Hollow Knight, but you don't get it until act 3 when most of those fights are already over
>>750701852No, but Good beginner Metroidvania though. I would recommend it over Hollow Knight
>>750701852This was boring as fuck, dropped it 2 hours in.
Best Metroidvanias of the decade and nothing comes even close
Let me post an actually good 2D game.
>>750702696lmao same, actually refunded that trash, you only have a regular attack + a small bomb, that's the entire moveset, and the level design is just corridors
>>750700502>That diagonal pogo, for example, NEVER feels good. You might learn how to play around it, but it's always contrived.I came to appreciate it on my Hunter-only playthrough, and now I honestly prefer it over both Wanderer and HK pogos. I like that it's both a burst movement option and a pogo, and it feels more dynamic to have some horizontal movement with a pogo instead of letting you sit still and hover directly over an enemy's head by holding down+attack. That its trajectory is diagonal isn't an issue, since you're often facing towards and approaching enemies/props horizontally instead of attempting to hit them while directly above them. Once you've gotten the motion down, finding the correct position and distance to pogo from becomes second nature. You can pogo consecutively on the same prop or enemy by alternating left/right pogos, or by drifting backward for every pogo. The latter is not unlike the motion of holding towards a wall for consecutive, ascending wall-jumps. Clawline and the Hunter dash attack both launch you up in the perfect position to follow up with a pogo, too. What you perceive as a contrivance is just a spike in the learning curve that you've yet to overcome. It's undoubtedly harder to use than the Wanderer/HK pogo, but after giving it some time, I've found it to be more fun and fluid than either of them.>>750701884>There's a lot of stuff in Silksong that that fucks with your Hollow Knight muscle memory pretty hard. You can regress into HK muscle memory if you've unlocked the Wanderer crest, which happens ~5 hours into most playthroughs. Wanderer is the primary reason I had such an easy time with SS, and I wish I hadn't gimped my first playthrough by relying on it for 90% of the game instead of learning Hunter.
>>750702789After I got out of the first triumvirate of bosses into the second circle I realized that the game really had zero going for it in terms of automating tedious tasks and had nearly zero interesting mechanics to begin with. It was like I reached the end of the tech tree and I was only seven hours in.
>>750703031I did a hunter only run too, and even though you can go 90% of the way through the game without problems, there's still moments where you go "ok dude this is super contrarian, fuck off." For me it was the Father of the Flame fight, trying to cope with certain parts of the Coral Tower gauntlet, and the Surface climb. Like, at most it's neutral in that it behaves the same as your regular pogo just requiring a few extra inputs per pogo to line it up (that can fuck you over under the wrong circumstances), but then there's always those little nigger moments that remind you of how fucked up it is. That's why I say it never truly feels good.
Also I do not understand the people who say Silksong's OST is mid. Have they ever bothered listening to it? There's no way you could hear BGM like Bilewater, Choral Chambers, The Archives, or Blasted Steps without being impressed. It's impossible to not like boss tracks like Karmelita, Cut Through, Cogwork Dancers, Trobbio, Lace, etc. Is this coming from guys who quit the game in Deep Docks and basically never even heard it?
>>750642654First sinner gauntlet dlc where you run through 24 bosses closely to loosely based on first sinner's movesethunter crest only, of course
>>750649818>Incomplete after this longGlad I didn't bother lel
>>750703796I beat the game about a month ago and don't remember a single track other than kinda thinking the capital track was cool. I don't remember how that song went though and I didn't bother adding it to any of my playlists. That's my metric for a game's music not being that good to me. The first game was the same and I'm not a fan of more atmospheric soundtracks in general. You can have cool memorable melodies while you're immersed in exploration not doing so is just a stylistic decision that I kinda despise now that it's so common. I want to have this blasting while I explore not quiet atmospheric tracks I won't remember the moment I turn off the gamehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVUYyVfydqY
I really wish Hollow Knight and Silksong had harder difficulties that weren't Steel Soul. Permadeath for such long games isn't fun.And no I don't want to install fan mods.
>>750704279You can overcharm in HK, or use the bracelet in SS, that's your hard mode
>>750640426I pre-ordered the physical for Switch 2. Hopefully it'll give me the motivation to finally beat Act 3.
>>750701660>rusted mosslmao
>>750704640why the fuck would you preorder the physical edition if you havent even finished the game after a whole year
God I wish Rainworld could give you the grapple bug like right at the start.
>>750703995Pantheon of the Witch: beat Pantheon of Pharloom while cursed
>>750701660Rain World really doesn't feel like a metroidvania, and I wouldn't call a 9 year old game "recent".
>>750704802Because playing in bed might incentivize more play
>>750703396The main issue with hunter pogo is hornet doesn't instantly turn while airstrafing, so even though you've moved slightly to the opposite side you still have to wait like half a second before you can pogo again or she'll do it in the wrong direction. It doesn't come up often, but comparing it to other crests where you can basically spam pogo instantly it feels painfully slow.
>>750703796There are some issues with where tracks get used. Bone Bottom actually has a really good track, but the good stuff takes too long to kick in and no player is going to be idling in that area for long enough, even if you're talking to every character multiple times. Similarly, there's some good stuff with the Marrow's soundtrack but it only plays in the rooms with lava, and those rooms are all relatively straightforward so you've left them before the track can really be enjoyed.
>>750640518you're a literal tranny
>>750703796i had to put the controller down multiple times throughout my first run and just listen to the godamn music. It was fucking great. Boss music also like Widow, Lace, Karmelita. Christopher Larkin really elevated the Silksong experience so much.
is hollow knight threads the same 10 ish people repeating themselves over and over again or it's just ai bots?
>>750706927we are all AI created to infest your personal matrix and turn you trans
>>750640426tranny game
>>750706927The bots are making Dark Souls 2 threads so they can write AI nostalgiafag posts about it despite having not touched the game for at least 10 years, and never reply to anyone in the thread who calls out their bullshit.
>>750704737>Shallow Knight ShillsongRofl
>>750650823They hated him because he told the truth.
>>750650823people play it because of the gameplay though, it feels fast and punchy
>>750702737give me back my 30 minutes you piece of shit
>>750640426>entire genrenot with that dumpster fire of an Act 3 it aint.
>>750710187Loop eet
>>750710320Act 3 is good.
>>750640426WrongFirst, Hollow Knight is better than SilksongSecond, La-Mulana is the best metroidvania ever made
>>750711857Not really
This game is gonna save metroidvanias. The demo is fucking amazing
I guess you like hollow knight more if you care about atmosphere moreBut the moment to moment gameplay in silksong is miles ahead of hollow knight. try going back to HK after playing hornet for a while in act 2 and you'll immediately understand
>>750712430It was pretty good yeah. I wonder if I'll like mouse aiming for a full game though. It already kinda felt like terraria or some shit in the demo and I dunno how that'll pair with proper metroidvania movement stuff with a full kit of abilities
>>750640426yeah but where dlc
>>750712479It's just different. The Knight is a tank. He's gonna stand there and beat the fuck out of you, and you're cry about it until you die. The Knight has a lot more freedom to dab all over enemies without giving a shit about them. Hornet doesn't have nearly as much freedom to do that. She's slipperier in a fight but simultaneously much more restricted, both in terms of what she can do and what enemies let her do, comparatively. Silksong has an "intended" way to play it and you can't flex nearly as hard on the game.
>>750695962>3D action games don't have good bosses.
>>750715276>>750696064>>750698376brawlers like god hand and DMC might get a pass. but a good chunk of shooters, mmorpgs, and other action games have completely shit bosses.
