He was a big part of their childhood. Kojima, Nomura, and a lot of other major jap devs were a part of the whole PS3/360 era of franchise projects being kept in dev hell for an entire decade, until they got shit canned or rushed out in the next console. This is what happens when devs get deified and get a blank check budget. Sure, they were a major part in a game/series creation, but there were a lot of others alongside them.
