Looking at the bond shop, AMX 13 57 is the best and most fun option.Although nearly all light tanks are useful if you know the basics of spotting and camo, once you get to tier 8 they all become outclassed by EVEN 90, EBR 75 FL and 432. If you want higher tier scouts your best bets are T 100, Manticore and new German and Chinese tanks if you want to damage dealing potential as well.

>>750636353Light tanks are for armored recon, not for engaging medium or heavy tanks. The difference to something like a HMG-equipped APC is that they're able to offer long range fire support for infantry if need be. They've mostly been superseded by IFVs in this sense, but there's still demand for the high explosive charge and long range accuracy of a high velocity tank cannon. At least, all of this was true before drone warfare really took off.

If they’re light and compact enough they can be air transported and generally have less issues navigating poor terrain, and like the other anon said they still have enough armor to engage anythinf with similar or less armor like infantry and light vehicles. Against heavier vehicles they can still make for good reconnisance.
