I'm tired of every single game having "quests" that go in a "quest log"Why can't devs come up with some new names for that shit?
>>750629589No you don't. This is stupid.
They used to be called "Journals" but that confused people.
>>750630431>updated my daily battlepass challenge rotation
>>750629589Because that's what everyone defaults to because they are functionally that regardless of the setting or the context of the game. Like "tasks" in Stalker. Everyone in online discussions still calls them quests. This is nothing to be autistic about.
>>750630472>what can change the nature of a live service?
Do you also get mad at having to use toilet paper after taking a shit op
>>750630612taking a shit without a bidet is caveman shit.
>>750629589My problem with quest logs is that they impose a very strict design framework onto quests. Everything that a quest consists of, every objective must be quantifiable, trackable and leave absolutely no ambiguity or uncertainty. Get a part of a quest done in a correct way? You get a notification and the quest subgoal gets ticked off. You don't actually get to experience solving the whole quest by yourself, you never have to second guess yourself "Hmm did I do that thing in that step right? Might I have to redo it in a different way?", you are always sure of what to do, when and where. Sure it's clear and concise but when everything is designed to be so the act just becomes a chore devoid of any thrill.
>>750630801They're designed this way because of achievements.Achievements are what losers find fun, they don't play the games for the gameplay but for the popup telling them they did something right. Quests are how they rewards these retards, they don't get satisfaction from solving a puzzle they struggled with, they get satisfaction on the quest being finished, not the journey. The average person is this retard. The average person doesn't find any fulfilment from the journey, they get it from having the finishing line handed to them from which they can get the next step handed to them.
>>750630801everything you said is how every modern mmo plays.
>>750631013And a lot of single player games too. They've adopted the MMO practices for whatever reason.
>>750630801Not every quest log is the same, though. Take Gothic's or Morrowind's Modern Quest Journal mod for example. They don't tell you what to do or give you subgoals and an order to do things in. They just tell you that you got a quest and group all your information you've collected towards progression said quest in one neat interface. I like those best and I think they always improve the experience. I don't like systems like in Dark Souls where nothing is tracked in a way that is visible to the player.
>>750631038>a lot of single player games too. They've adopted the MMO practices for whatever reason.probably due to everyone being so dopamine fried that they need that instant hit
>>750631220>I don't like systems like in Dark Souls where nothing is tracked in a way that is visible to the player.i think it makes perfect sense for dark souls but is a terrible method for most games
>>750629589A quest log isn't the problem; shitty quest design is
