SA1 was neat pushing for character development with Amy trying to grow into Sonic's equal and genuinely impress him. Every game afterwards flanderized her into being just obsessed with barely any thought in her head not about Sonic, with the peak in Heroes and Battle. I found it boring and one-note so I was open to change. I ended up really enjoying the take on Amy's love for Sonic from the Boom cartoon where it's not so in your face and Sonic actually reciprocates so they both try to be casual about it and downplay/hide it. What they've done now where it's pretty much gone without it being replaced by anything substantial sucks though. Current Amy is just a husk and they're not even going for a "tough, strong girl" angle which would most likely be cringe (like Peach in the Mario movies at times) but it would be something. The movies have been good with characterization so I hope movie 4 works out well for Amy too.
