How is Octopath staggerslop combat compared to FFR? I really like the variable speed formula as to not make combat too scripted and the balance of the game on Expert, plus the customization is really nice, always getting some new toys to theorycraft. Final Fantasy mainline games have cool system, but they're painfully easy which is my main skepticism torwards Octo.

You do 0.8x damage, enemies have 1.6x HP *and* stagger, and they deal 1.4x damage. If you play on Expert, sometimes things just feel like damage sponges. People are saying it's well balanced, but I don't know if I agree with that. i went through dragon's maw last night and after entering a random battle with a giant robot and a giant crystal, that took probably 15 minutes to kill (on expert), i had to shut the game off, that's the problem with these job system games, you're always rotating shit to master everything on everyone and you never get a build going so im always caught with my pants down wasting passive slots on mrp +50% passives and having shit like vaan equipped. besides the combat, everything in this game feels botched in some way. I really dont vibe with the vision system conceptually or in practice. It feels kind of cringe that 90% of them are commandos and breakers so they dont feel very good on most of the cast. Then newcomers have no mrp at all, which lets be honest, the vision mastery system should have been tied to level instead of being a separate exp bar. It would have been cool if the visions had some type of epic battle or quest tied to each one of them to unlock their mastered tiers, but instead you just leave a mage on rain for a few hours until he can finally get that dogshit off of him. Engage did something cool where you play a climactic map from each emblem's game and beating it was how you unlocked their higher tier skills. That would totally solve the late joiner MRP problem. AP also should have been tied to level so that I dont have to constantly equip different shitters on 6-8 characters and micro manage them and their skill sets every 10 minutes. And what the fuck is with some visions having skills with downsides attached? Really, a breaker that makes you last in the turn order, or tanks that make your mp costs balloon and you cant disable it. But you have to grind them so theres no avoiding it>but cact-shut the fuck up grindfag. They fucked up the system, it shouldnt be up to the player to work around it for an enjoyable experience.

Dark Fina with Sephiroth and Double Action is a debuff machine, though, so I had those two paired up for most of the super boss fights.
