I've been playing all of them with my boyfriend, most spin offs included, but we got burnt so we stopped for a while and decided to push through but leaving spin offs for when we get into FF again when we play the remakes

For now my ranking would be
9 > 10 > 6 > 7 > 8 > 5 > 2 > 4 > 3 > 1

11 and 14 are gross MMOs so we won't be playing it, we tried 11 and it was the most boring garbage we ever played, 3 hours to walk to a tutorial place, came back to city, and quest sent us back there AGAIN, combat so lame and there's not even a proper story. 14 might have a better story and better gameplay but i'm not paying monthly for the right to play and i've heard it only gets good until several expansions in.

Playing 12 right now and i'm hating it. Hate the gameplay so much it's boring as fuck, i hate this "watch the protagonist auto attack" i miss turn based combat.

My bf favorite game however is 6 but his second favorite is 10.

Honestly I think they are all good or have their merits up until 13 came along. People will say 12 but I still think that one had a lot of good going for it desu. Its a fun game even if it can be very automated. Its 13 that seemed to really make things turn bad. Square Enix was in a good place until that games release and the subsequent damage that followed after.

Order is subjective, but we can rank them in tier pretty objectively
Tier 1 has VI, IX and VII. Tier 2 has X, IV, XII and. Tier 3 has III, I and VIII. Tier 4 has XV, XVI, II and V. Tier 5 has XIII and XVI.
XIII being the worst is the onky sure ranked position you can give any entry

But you can play XII as a turn based JRPG. Just select something when the atb fills, then choose the next atb gauge filled character and pick something from the menu. Keep doing it which is exactly what you do with the other games

The game is not designed for that. It would make every single fight take 30 hours just to manually select Attack with each character, do 5 damage, and then wait again. The constant pausing and character switching ruins the pace.
