Gen AI and agentic AI have revolutionized game dev and will drastically lower the cost of games in the future, leading to smaller development teams and a larger quantity games adapted to more audiences.
>>
>>750611820
Yeah but will it run natively?
>>
>>750611820
>drastically lower the cost of games in the future
>prices for anything going down
>ever
>>
>instead of professionals making high quality games you will have amateurs unleashing a deluge of unplayable slop
If I was making a competitor to steam I would focus it around only having good games and not unlimited shovelware, now seems the right time for it
>>
>>750611820
What happened to the decomp/recomp/slop threads? Were they moved to a different board?
>>
You have been saying this for longer than the development time of most prolific AAA automobile wrecks.
Reality itself proves this is retarded.
>inb4 BUT BUT, AI GOT LIKE SO MUCH BETTER IN THE PAST 5 SECONDS IT'S DIFFERENT NOW!!

how is this shit supposed to reduce costs, you're paying for tokens instead of wages

it's the same shit for a worse result

you thought people were joking when they said it was a claude ad campaign?

Is the campaign over lol

I don't want more games though
there are already too many
>>

>smaller development teams and a larger quantity games
how did they manage to achieve that in the late 90s? did a time traveler give them access to even more advanced AI?
>>
>>750613962
>instead of professionals making high quality games you will have amateurs unleashing a deluge of unplayable slop
Part of what caused the crash back in the day. AI trannies are about to relive history on a smaller scale.

Yeah, to zero. heh heh

Cost savings that will not be passed onto you, the consumer. They will charge what people are willing to pay and people is people are used to paying X amount for games then there is no incentive to make less money just to acclimate customers to paying less for your products.

>>
So we'll have cheaper games for the buyer, right? R-right?
>>
Shut up
>>
>will drastically lower the cost of games in the future
They said the same about digital distribution. You will pay 200 bucks for a 2 hour game vibecoded in Claude in less than 24 hours.
>>
>>750613962
Except we already had that exact deluge for the past two decades.
Unity, Unreal, Game Maker, et al meant that for the past twenty years, literally anyone could make an asset flip in under 24 hours and post it on Steam.
Even before AI, we were getting 2000 new Steam games per month, and it didn't change a thing. You still found all the good games and ignored the slop. Changing that number from 2000 to 20,000 or 200,000 isn't magically meaningfully different, there's no mechanical difference between sorting between 2k new releases and 200k, especially when you remember it's been compounding all along and you never even noticed.

It's a nothingburger.
>>
>>750611820
It wont reduce costs and games quality will only go free fall
>>
>>750611820
And yet i still have to pay 70 for AI slop churned out within a week.
How does this benefit me if I want to actually consume like a good goy?
>>
>>750624521
So remember how before AI, you only bought good games and didn't buy Unity asset flips even though an overwhelming majority of games (both indie and AAA) were the latter?
Same thing.
>>
>>750611820
>we figured out a way to churn out slop faster
We don't need games that are cheap to produce.
I already have more than one whole lifetime of games to play and that gets cut in half if I decide to play them all a second time.

Refined Shit is still Shit, retard.
>>
>>750624521
not my problem how you make the money, ask your parents, steal , get a job
as a dev i only want your money ok? I dont give a shit about your personal life and financial life

stop asking stupid fucking questions that i dont care as a dev
ok?
>>
>>750614560
Tokens are cheaper than wages, even on the pay-per-token enterprise plans. AI also doesn't get tired, take breaks, or make mistakes.
>>
>>750624442
how is digging through 2k games the same as 200k games
one is much more annoying
>>
>>750624635
It's mechanically identical.
Less than 0.001% of 0.001% of the population has ever actually manually sorted through the full steam library. NO ONE finds games that way, and this isn't an opinion or subjective.

The same mechanics that previously got the good games in front of you and made you ignore the bad games work regardless of library size.
>>
>>750624442
You know AI is a great thing when even the AIjeets admit it results in having to dig through even more trash.
>>
>>750624442

They'll get over it, OP. Nothing anyone says at this point can remove AI from the equation, we will have to learn to live with it. Doesn't matter how mad it makes Bernie or the Cancer Pope or any number of anons on this Azeri Motown/Funk Enthusiast forum
>>
>>750611820
>guys you can make games in WEEKS now
>can we see the games
>no man it takes WEEKS you know
You for the past year. dev time was never the issue in gaming.
>>
>>750624797
Yes, that's a direct side effect of accessibility. Any kind of accessibility, not just AI.

For example, as a side effect of everyone having a 4K camcorder in their pocket 24/7 instead of having to pay $2k for a film camera is that we currently take over 1 trillion (with a T) photos every year. How many of those do you think are meaningful?

It's insane to me that everyone spent the past two decades shitting and pissing about accessibility, and now that we have it, everyone is pissed at what it actually entailed all along, while also ignoring how it isn't actually a problem.

>>750624857
They do. The way to filter out slop is:
the exact same way you've successfully been doing it for the past two decades with zero change.

Sort of like how everyone being able to have constant access to the internet with a phone made 4chan much better. I kid, I actually think AI has potential, I just couldn't help myself on that one.
>>
>>750624926
>you've successfully
Giving me an entire tag of genres to skip? How about they add it for AI disclosure
>>
>>750624442
Some devs are saying that the slop clone games just drive people to go to their original non-slop game, since it's usually very obvious what's slop and what isn't. Is the new meta to publish multiple fake slop copies of your game under fake developer studio names to serve as advertising?
I also heard a case where a dev paid someone to make a ROBLOX copy of their game before releasing, allowing both the game and the ROBLOX copy to be released at the same time to take some of the ROBLOX copying revenue for themselves.
>>
>>750624926
Eat my fucking dick. For a good while I've been saying that making game dev "accessible" was a fucking mistake. The bar has been ground level for years now and AI plans to bury it underground.
>>
>>750611820
Games will get worse than ever and continue to go up in price.
>>
>>750624926
The chief difference there being people take pictures mostly for themselves, they don't have to sift through a trillion random pictures to find a picture of their pet looking like a dork. The slop factories aren't churning out garbage for the love of the game, but to scam people out of money.

There's been mountains of terrible games made by bedroom coders since the 70s (the first wave of accessibility if you will), still I occasionally find something interesting that has fuck all coverage. The total amount of shit produced still pales in comparison to what "accessible" asset flip engines flooded the market with.

Logically there would be more somewhat interesting games in that giant pile of shit, but the shit pile covers it so completely that it's not a case of "'when" someone plays it, but if anyone plays it at all. AI already made that worse when it wasn't "accessible". I don't have FOMO because it's not like I can play all games ever made (not even all decent games) even if my cut-off is 7th gen, but it frankly just murders that part of fun discovery when it's all either shit, asset flip or hype clone with 0 creativity or seemingly even any interest in the development of "their" game.

I've never been keen on being told what I should enjoy by some algorithm as it boxes you in, but that's the future you'll get. You won't even own your own taste in media anymore.
>>
>>750611820
There will be no cost.
There will be no dev teams.
There will be no game industry revolution because there isn't going to be an industry anymore.
>but now I can finally develop that game I've been maladaptively daydreaming about and it'll go viral and everyone will think I'm really cool and smart and-
No nigga. Nobody is going to play your game. The AI is going to come up with and execute ideas better than you ever could. Even if you could it would be instantly buried under a thousand ripoffs of it with different pop culture and fetish shit to maximize engagement.
>>
>>750626445
AI doesn't do better, it's just people opinion on themselves are higher than what the idea actually is. verbal description is also a barrier, not a door to ideas. oral language is a terrible medium to construct complex concepts, written text with drawn schematics is way better. And it's even worse if your devs work in an open space.
>>
>>750626692
You aren't going to outhink the thinking machine any more than you're going to outlift a forklift.
>>
How do I sell my friends more on AI? I've tried showing them my favorite short AI series on Youtube and even played them some of my Suno creations but they seem more indifferent than anything. Even my gamer friends aren't really that impressed by all the decomps going on, they say it's cool but never really engage beyond that. I'd love to show them all the Malfoid OC but I don't think they'd be into that.
>>
>>750624716
>The same mechanics that previously got the good games in front of you
I.E. sifting through store pages since most games that get shilled on sites like this are mediocre or outright bad while good games are lucky to break 100 Steam reviews
>>
>>750627554
You need to get dumber friends.
>>
>>750626445
>The AI is going to come up with and execute ideas better than you ever could
This is the bit that mediocre idea men don't get, the AI is already better than them at coming up with lame game ideas

Now that each worker is so much more productive, they are sure to get paid more/work fewer hours, and the money the company saves will be passed on to the consumer as well!

Anyone who spent a significant amount of time on SillyTavern can tell you something with absolute conviction.
LLMs cannot write any interesting developments on their own. It literally does not happen.
All ideas that end up good have to be yours. What AI is good at is taking your draft and making it prettier.

Tokens are being subsidized by investors so once that stops it might be cheaper than hiring a 1st engineer but more expensive than outsourcing. Until they figure out a cheaper way to run this stuff.
