Is a 4k 27” monitor a good idea or should i stick to 1440p at this size?
>>
>>750610535
It would look good but you're better off going up to 32" 4K or down to 1440p at 27" for games.
>>
>>750610535
144 hz is a little slow. You want 240 hz if you're on a budget, but ideally at least 360 hz for a 2160p monitor.
>>
>>750610535
Yeah that's decent res for the size
5K would be better but those are rare
>>
>>750610535
4K monitors are a meme for vidya. Good for productivity, but for vidya you'd want 4K to be a TV. 1440p is perfect.
>>
>>750611237
Get Electron Beam Simulator Shader to fix that
https://testufo.com/crt
>>
i went from 4k 28" to 27" oled and on screen text was the most jarring but ive gotten used to it and 4 games its fine
>>
>>750612035
see >>750611237
>>
>>750610535
Stick to 1440p. The drop in performance going from 1440p to 4K is massive for a pretty insignificant upgrade in picture quality.
>>
File deleted.
I upgraded from a 28" 4K monitor to a 32" 4K monitor (while using the first one as a secondary monitor).
The 4 inches make a difference. I don't feel compelled to go any bigger.
>>
>>750610535
at 27 inches. you won't be able to tell the difference between 1440p or 4k
>>
>>750612376
Your eyes are poor.
>>
>>750611237
I'm so glad I never left 60.
>>
I love my 4k 27" monitor. Looks infinitely better than the 1440p 27" it moved to secondary duty.
>>
>>750611237
nigga 360hz 4k monitors dont even exist until next year
>>
>>750614194
>Looks infinitely better than the 1440p

doubt
>>
>>750612174
>insignificant upgrade
I tested 1080p vs 1440p, and the upgrade also looked insignificant. Yes 1440p looks better, but it didn't btfo 1080p.
So you mean to tell me 4k is also insignificant compared to 1440p? I should just stick to 1080p then?
>>
>>750610535
Depends more on the rest of the specs. 4K IPS 144hz seems like a pretty bad deal unless it's really cheap. At this size, between resolution, refresh rate and type of panel, resolution is the least important one but the focus of this monitor.
You'll probably enjoy the higher framerates you'd get at 1440p much more than the extra resolution at 27" anyway.
>>
>>750615206
Stay on 1080p if you’re happy. To me there’s a big diff between 1440p and 1080p at 27 inches. 4K at 27 inches is pretty amazing. The natural anti aliasing of that ppi is nuts
>>
27" 4K monitors are only good for productivity. Using them for gaming is retard. 27" is perfect for 1440p. A 4K monitor should be larger for a noticble difference.
>>
>>750615206
it all depends on the monitor size
nowadays with dlss and shit, 1080p can look crisp as fuck
>>
>>750610535
It looks nice. But unless you have a 5080, 4090, or 5090 you'd be better off with 1440p. DLSS Performance is nice at 4k (1080p internal res). But DLSS balanced at 1440p is going to run faster and still looks pretty good.

>>750612376
Makes a big difference for text. Especially on QD-OLEDs if you're at all sensitive to color fringing. Less Important on IPS, but I can't imagine why someone would be buying a 4k IPS panel for gaming these days.
>>
>>750612667
your eyes are stupid
>>
>>750615206
If you didn't find a big difference between 1080p and 1440p personally you definitely shouldn't bother with 4k at 27"
>>
>>750611237
This place is so fucking retarded that you should all be killed.
>>
Everything about gayming monitors looks beyond retarded
>actually scared of buying buzzword shit

>most games have shit animations that don't benefit from beyond 90fps
>all font renders are complete utter trash
>bigger pixel space needs more expensive gpu work
>crosshair function
>I like better analogic solutions
And so on
>>
>>750616464
You can't even fucking write coherent English and you don't know how to greentext. You don't get to call anything retarded ever.
>>
>>750616464
High refresh objectively improves input latency and motion clarity. How high of a refresh rate makes sense for you depends on your computer's power and the game genres you play. Buy a monitor based on specs, not "features."
>>
>>750611237
None of my games get 360fps
>>
>>750612972
You're literally retarded then. There is no reason to not use a 120Hz monitor at the very minimum. No it does not make lower framerates 'look like shit' after you 'get used to' higher ones, things just look and play better the higher you go and you have the freedom to take advantage of that if you want, but you will being able to play at lower frame rates all the same. The more responsive a game is the more direct control you will have over it. There is no downside to this, 60Hz is just overrated as a standard and 120Hz is very superior.
>>
What's the smallest for 4k then? 32 inches? I pirated Phantom Blade Zero on my rig that has a cheapo LG spyware 240hz 1440p 27" OLED and it looks bretty good as far as UEslop games go but I feel like I can go bigger.
>>
>>750617538
NO U

I've played at 120, and going back to60 looked like absolute shit. Problem with that is a lot of games I play can't even run past 60, so they were ruined for me. After a few months, I got used to 60 and it looks fine now. It felt like going from 60 to 30, and yes it does look like absolute shit.
>>
>>750617538
>No it does not make lower framerates 'look like shit' after you 'get used to' higher ones

>games turning into blurry slideshows doesn't look worse
>>
>>750617538
>name-calling right off the bat for absolutely no reason
>makes absolutely retarded claims

every time
>>
>>750617658
I would say so yeah
>>
Shouldn't monitors have gotten cheaper over the past year since no one is building/buying new towers anymore
>>
>>750617658
Yes. That's also the size that will have the most selection.
>>
>>750618843
>>750619060
I like how you both confirmed that 120+ is absolutely superior, but are just too blindsided by that to see sub 60FPS games still look how they always did.

Going from 60FPS to 120 and above is by far the biggest upgrade you can get for gaming and is way more substantial than 4K or HDR nonsense. Someone stuck at 1080p, but able to play at 240Hz is doing way, way better than someone with a 4K HDR display that won't go above 60.
>>
>>750619169
I deliberately used 'literally retarded' correctly, i.e. someone limiting themselves to a slower monitor is retarding themselves, making their gameplay slower and less responsive for no reason.
>>
>>750619363
nobody is saying it isn't you stupid faggot
people are saying there is definitely a noticeable different between 60 and 120fps
>>
>>750619469
I gave a reason though. 60 is perfectly fine for single-player games.
>>
I hate that elden ring is stuck at 60fps
>>
>>750619363
I have 3 displays, my main gaming monitor is 1440p 240hz, 4k monitor at 60hz and a very old dell 1080p monitor I got as a gift with my first PC also at 60hz. I only use the 4k monitor for gaming if the game has issues running beyond 60fps, never use the 1080p monitor for gaming. Honestly considering replacing the 1080p with a new one, same resolution but even higher refresh rate than 240hz
>>

1080p@120fps > 1440p@60fps

Going back to games at 60 is fine if you know it's not a hardware limitation, but a game limitation. Sure it looks bad, but it's not unplayable.
>>
Isn't 1080p a blurry mess, even at 24"?
>>
>>750619797
Not really, 24" is the perfect size for 1080p
>>
>>750619797
>Isn't 1080p a blurry mess
ONLY on modern 'games' with garbage AA that use dithering for everything. For everything that doesn't use differed rendering it's more than enough and very few games even benefit that much from going to 1440.
>>
dlss makes 1080p sharp as fuck - no jaggies
>>
My monitor somehow developed a dead or stuck pixel right above the center of the screen. Definitely out of warranty, still don't understand how it happened. I really want to ignore it and most games are dark and detailed enough to allow that but Nintendo games just make it extremely obvious. It's an LG ultragear
>>
I will never use ai slop fake frame and fake resolution
If it doesn't run then I don't play it
>>
>>750620680
are you expecting some kind of standing ovation?
>>
1440p just looked bigger to me, not any sharper than 1080p. I guess it depends how far you are from your monitor too, which is to say I'm really close because I game on a recliner and desk and I basically almost lien under it.
>>
>>750620680
That's because you're retarded and don't know how framegen works. You probably think it makes 10fps playable
>>
>>750610535
only reason to get 27" 4k is if you play fps games, otherwise 32" 4k is always better overall
>>
I got an RTX 4070ti a few years back, and a 120Hz 1080p monitor alongside a 60Hz 1440p one. I use the 1080p one for everything above 60, and games I that I know are stuck at 60, and work I use the 1440p. 4K gaming monitors should be 32"+
>>
>>750621132
Nah 28" is fine for 4k
>>
>>750615351
Enjoy your inferior pixel density, blind boy.
>>
>>750621259
it's a waste for vidya because 1440p looks the exact same. 4K is better suited for larger monitors or TVs.
>>
>>750621282
enjoy your retardation I guess
>>
>>750622175
at 28" you WILL notice the difference. I'm not here to argue about pixel density, I'm speaking from experience. My 4k monitor is 28", my 1440p monitor is 27". There is a huge difference in visual clarity

>>
>>750610683
This is a retarded opinion because it doesn't understand pixel density.
27" 4K is objectively, measurably better than 27" 1440p in every conceivable metric other than cost, and we've reached a point where even that is negligible.
>>
>>750623575
>it's a waste for vidya because 1440p looks the exact same. 4K is better suited for larger monitors or TVs.
This text is considered a "pic" by black americans
>>
>>750623608
Depends on the amount of gpu memory, if it can't handle 4k its kind of a shit pick since 1440p will look blurry on that.
>>
>>750610535
27" at 1440p is a huge improvement compared to 1080p both at gayming and coding.
4K 27" only matters if you code a lot. 5K 27" if you use Mac.
>>
>>750617658
There is no "smallest". You pick the size that's right for your sitting distance, then pick the highest possible resolution you can afford.
>>

you only need a monitor if you play competitive games where input lag matters the most.
in general you're better off getting a tv with motion tech since most games run at 60fps.
the same fps will look like shit on oled monitors.

yes, it's perfectly fine

you do realise you're supposed to calibrate your monitor, right? obviously i have sharpening on
>>
>>750610535
4k is a bit of a gimmick unless you have a beefy gpu. seems a bit pointless going for 2x the resolution when you'd have to sacrifice in game visuals or use dlss/fsr on performance mode
>>

so stupid
just get a 4k monitor at that point

this

>>750610535
I have a 4k +200hz and 2k +200hz and honestly, the 4k is the wasted one. I never use it except for reading/work (2k has bad pixel placement), barely any games can use it properly (4080), optimization is magically getting fucking worse with time.

The 2k OLED however is great, and everyone who comes over and sees it runs off and buys their own. Never going back to any other monitor type.

ppi is higher but unless you're like 40cm away from your monitor it shouldn't matter that much.

I love how retards still think in terms of this. Do you run your oven at only 100 °C also, because it would put more strain on it when running it at 200 °C?

I mainly stick to 27" 1440p and focus more on refresh rate (240hz or higher ideally). My last monitor was 32" 4K but 144hz (which I ran at 120hz because I absolutely despise running at a refresh rate that isn't an exact multiple of 60hz due to microstutter being unavoidable otherwise), and the increased pixel density just wasn't worth the hassle. At that size you absolutely need to be using DPI scaling, and if you're on Windows (which you almost certainly will be for gaming), its DPI scaling is absolutely atrocious and going above 100% will break some applications in ways that you just cannot account for, yet sticking to 100% scaling just means everything becomes too fucking tiny to even make out easily.

It was such a relief to finally go back to 27" 1440p after that experience, and at this point I don't think I'll ever bother with 4K again unless either DPI scaling is massively improved or even larger monitors become more common so that I don't feel like I need to deal with the scaling issues.
