MMZ yes, the rest, not sure. I don't know if I'd count X series as 'punk'
>>
>>750608359
X definitely has some influence at least with how reploids are named after replicants (they're even called repliroids in Japan)
>>
>>750608359
Battle Network is like if Neuromancer was a kid-friendly saturday morning cartoon
>>
>>750608359
No, just straight sci-fi. If Wily wasn't fucking around, it'd be decently utopian.
>>
i would call it "urban sci fi" but i don't think that's a literal trade term
>>
>>750608359
It has the "cyber" part down, idk about the "punk"
>>
No it's just anime futuristic.

Megaman is Solar Punk, the opposite of cyber punk in tone and future outlook. Everything is clean and green and shit.
>>
>>750608359
Not really no.
It has "cyber" but rather than "punk" it's more "metal" rock.
>>
>>750608359
Mega Man is Robot Fiction, an older genre of sci-fi, plus Toku/transforming Superhero themes
X is the above, but also Gundam-esque war drama tragedy and apocalyptic themes added
Zero is also both of the above, but post-apocalyptic with a high fantasy/mythology motif around everything
ZX is the closest to Cyberpunk, it prominently features cyborgs and transhuman themes, and even features an evil corporation along with an overbearing government
Legends is super-far future speculative territory with Ghibli and Nadia in the Blue Water vibes, also more prominently features Mecha

BN is "cyber-futurist" I guess with some Pokemon and Digimon flare
SF is the above (sort of) with Cosmic/Space sci-fi elements and even some speculative evolution content (EM Wave Beings)
>>
>>750608531
MMZ is more post apocalypse rather than cyberpunk desu
>>
You basically play as cyber cops who have no need for anything besides uhmm, their friends and feelings I guess.
They fight to enforce the status quo and any detractors of it are painted in an unquestionable negative light.
>>
>>750618772
Usually the detractors are either threatening civie lives or are actually ending them though so there's no real positive light there.

cyberpunk is high tech low life. Megaman as a whole is very high life. The world is protected by idealistic robots.
>>
>>750608359
The world wasnt a shithole until X5
>>
>>750621000
I would prefer being in cyberpunk 2077 rather than in megaman x, atleast literal country sized satelites don't fall over there
>>
>>750621000
the X world is a complete shithole, mavericks are constantly fucking shit up and cities get levelled entirely at random intervals, and eventually shit goes so FUBAR that 60% of all humans die out at one point, then they go extinct entirely being replaced by transhumans.
>>
>>750621124
Games until X4 were skirmishes at most, its not until the repliforce happened it devolved into a full war and even at that the people there was still living fine

I would say it was X5 when things started to go global. X1-X4 showed a majority of the incidents being isolated to a region. X4 definitely scales it up with Repliforce pointing a giant death ray at Earth, all in the name of peace of course :)
>>
>>750621124
not really. shit is bad but the standard of living for humans never dropped to low life level. For once they are kept safe underground most of the time while robots kill each other on the surface.
>>
>>750608359
No, it's megapunk
>>
They never quite explain how utterly fucked Earth ended up after the Eurasia crash, that was supposedly an apocalyptic scenario that basically made the planet uninhabitable for god knows how long, IIRC that's also the reason why they made the jakob space elevator, to GTFO Earth and jumpstart the search for a less fucked up planet.
Obligatory:
https://youtu.be/8lFsUvSI49I
>>
>>750608359
It turns into Cyberpunk when Sigma lost his mind to Zero AIDS. Then post apocalyptic cyberpunk in X6
>>
>>750621124
In X the most you had were skirmishes. The only times it went to shit was a war because of a militia having the funding of a nation(Repliforce) then operation British (Sigma's colony drop). X6 was a few months after the drop so they're recovering from it. X7 the world's recovered somewhat but still a local skirmish between a police force and bounty hunters. X8 is a world project trying to hit the moon with an elevator. By CM the world's pretty much fine but they're still trying to get rid of pollution but that was a local skirmish that had the potential of affecting the world..
>>
>>750610605
fuck crazy people
>>
>>750621410
Well the thing is it wasn't THAT fucked up of an apocalyptic scenario. You wouldn't have the forests and jungles if it was. I remember some other thread pointing out that Earth being utterly fucked was the scenario that'd move you towards MMZ after somebody did mathematical calculations with Zero's numbers.
>>
>>750621491
You say it like it's a small thing but that already sounds extremely hopeless, X tries his best to fight against entropy and while he succeeds in defeating the mavericks he can't stop most of the damage they bring about on the world.
>>
>>750617278
I've always wondered if EM wave aliens weren't functionally similar to Cyber-elves
>>
>>750621684
>X tries his best to fight against entropy and while he succeeds in defeating the mavericks he can't stop most of the damage they bring about on the world.
But he does, its only when sigma nuked the entire earth is when everything goess full blown apocalyptic
>>
>>750621684
Most were small things. X4-X5 was when shit hit the fan. X8 was a world project. Nevermind that a number of games happen in the span of a year and a half at most, like X1-X3, and X4-X6.
>>
>>750621273
>X4 definitely scales it up with Repliforce pointing a giant death ray at Earth, all in the name of peace of course :)
Entire cities in X4 were leveled just from the intro stage alone, even if the death ray got stopped the damage was massive but not enough to make the world a dystopia
>>
>>750622308
It was 2 cities in the intro stage, then 2 more because Repliforce nuked them because lel.

Humans and robots/reploids always are separate types of beings until zx and zxa state that humans and reploids somewhat merged and by the time of legends humanity as we know it is extinct.
https://megaman.miraheze.org/wiki/Humanoid
I never understood why did the humanoids from zx have some sort of weird full body skin suit and that for some reason all human parts that were replaced by the goverment in order to augment people are stored and were supposed to be used on a sequel to zx advent

They just wanted X to beat Sheng Long. Kind of like they wanted to give X hadoken and shouryuken with his armors, planned a tatsumaki senpukyaku with X3, then Zero managed to learn shouryuken and tatsumaki senpukyaku, and a chinese fox decided to develop a more destructive hadoken.

MM is Atompunk and X kinda starts out as Atompunk and ends up at a mix of a few different things I'm not sure what you'd call it, but with like 80% of humanity dead by the end of the series it's not really cyberpunk since there's no evil corporations or cyborgs and it sorta becomes like mechapunk.

MMZ and ZX is kinda weird, it should be cyberpunk but it's not really, it's more like biopunk/solarpunk? Since humans and reploids become indistinguishable from one another. There are ghosts or elves or whatever you wanna call em which I guess kinda makes it cyberpunk and it's built on top of the ruins of society.

Battle Network you can straight up call Solar Punk and Y2K Utopianism.
>>
>>750623060
The X series sort of presupposes that Robot Master technology became lost, and X's Reploid framework is used to try and resurrect or recreate that technology from first principles

If a Reploid wants a civvie life after whatever job they were created to do is finished, assuming they don't want to keep doing it because they enjoy doing it or were designed to enjoy doing it, they can probably get de-weaponized or put into some other frame and call it good

Tl;dr Reploids have free will for the same reason Robot Masters already had human-level judgment
>>
>>750621754
When the fuck did sigma nuke the world? Is that why mmz is mostly a fucking wasteland?
>>
>>750623060
We are on the verge of finding that out for ourselves. Fun times ahead.
>>
>>750622951
>I never understood why did the humanoids from zx have some sort of weird full body skin suit
They don't and they're still called humans, not humanoids.
>>
>>750623139
Sigma nuked the world with the Eurasia colony because MMZ's post-apocalypse setting doesn't really work if there wasn't a huge catalyst but nothing else in the X series really presents an opportunity for that
>>
>>750623139
X5, it's when every thing in that series became an utter hellscape of death
>>
>>750623123
>but with like 80% of humanity dead by the end of the series
But that's wrong. Humans are pretty much fin in the X series.
>>
So? Who was in the wrong at the end?
>>
>>750623190
Why tf did they never make a game that bridges both series? Thats just retarded or just an excuse to milk whatever subseries they want without having to worry for timeline stuff ig
>>
>>750623220
I mean they leave to go to the moon or whatever, so some survived but the ones that stuck around got merged with reploids so in ZX humans don't even exist anymore.
>>
>>750621709
I can see it. Both are digital life forms in a way that can posses machinery, but in turn can also be affected by an outside source (Wile corrupting the Mother Elf, Noise either hurting EM beings or making them go wild). Just that, Cyber Elves are man made while EM beings are not, with the exception of Wizards.
They try to say that Le Mu was the creator of all EM beings, but it really doesn't work due to the fact that Mu should have existed before the events of BN even started, and I'm pretty sure Dr. Light WOULD have found some trace of a Wave World existing.
>>
>>750623235
Wily's actions butterfly effected into the maverick wars and from what i can gather Light never made the cyberpsychopath virus.
>>
>>750623235
Still Wily, dumbass.
>>
>>750623252
The latter, on top of Inafune fucking sucking at building out series and subseries, X5 was supposed to be the bridge to Mega Man Zero and he forgot to actually have a lead-in for it, similar story to Zero 3 being the ending to the series and bridge to something else and he fucking forgot he left Weil alive
>>
>>750623190
Even X6 sorta implies Zero's shuttle basically had no effect on the Eurasia and it still fucked up the Earth, just to a lesser degree as if it "failed".
>>
>>750623139
>When the fuck did sigma nuke the world?
X5 when he had Operation British happen.
>Is that why mmz is mostly a fucking wasteland?
MMZ's world is a wasteland because of the Elf Wars that happened after X5's nuking.

According to one post that actually attempted to put numbers, MMZ's human population was the end result of what would be the Elf Wars + the X5 ending where the laser and rocket didn't damage Eurasia so it damn near wiped out humanity.
>>
>>750623139
Zero happens after the elf wars which decimated 60% of humans and 90% of reploids, this is again, all the fault of both Wily and Light's rivalry.
>>
>>750623235
Both of them fucked up. Robots being heroes was a great idea by Wily but he was too prideful to fix his hubris and he eventually hit the point of letting the world burn if he could prove himself the better man. Light's ideas of making robots equal to humans was stupid but he took all the precautions he could besides never building the hyperadvanced bullshit in the first place that someone else pilfered incompletely anyway.
Just because Wily's creation is the one that finally saved the world once and for all doesn't mean much when it caused the vast majority of everything that happened because of said creation anyway.
>>
>>750623323
X6 shows that the shuttle did damage to the colony but there was still damage, but that was more because of Zero Space bullshit too. But it's nowhere near what you'd get with if it didn't work enough.

I think the reality is basically this >>750623396
The shuttle did splinter Eurasia but it only reduced the initial impact rather than the total damage of the collision, the world is also basically a radioactive wasteland in X6.
>>
>>750623468
>NEVER REALLY PLAYED OTHER SUBSERIES BESIDES ZERO AND THE OG GAMES SO IDK A LOT ABOUT X'S TIMELINE.
X is basically a dude named Dr. Cain uncovered X's capsule after Light died, copycatted him with Reploids but imperfectly so they had malfunction flaws, Sigma got made, Zero gets uncovered with a virus Wily left in him, Sigma got the virus, cue Maverick Wars for 8 games and then some as the series flipped between morals, programming errors, and genuine viral madness in the bad guys. Besides some villains preaching about morals and evolution, and personal character bits like Zero losing his first love in Iris, there's actually not that much plot to care about in the grand scheme of all of X besides X5's whole pseudo-finale-that-wasn't-a-finale-because-Capcom-wanted-more-money shtick.

For as much contention as the Zero games have for difficulty, art design, leaving so much plot out because platformer games and too many ideas on the cutting room floor, they at least have arcs and stories to work through that see a damn conclusion.

I mean, you spend a lot of time out in the wasteland, but it's still pretty cyberpunk at its core. It's got a lot of cyberpunk elements, like fighting an oppressive system in a dehumanized technological dystopia ruled over by a flawed AI savior. It's very "punk" to me.

Moreso than X where you work for the government without the moral ambiguity of say Blade Runner. Not that X doesn't feel bad about hunting but the plot makes it pretty clear it's a necessary evil
