What if an MMO didn't need a new expansion to give you a reason to play? Give players resources worth fighting over, gear worth maintaining, wealth worth protecting, and a world where other players can change everything. Progression ends. Investment doesn't have to.
>>750600261That would just be real life. I'm not even being facetious because any mmo that sells itself on having no social/economic guardrails like that gets quickly overrun by unemployed people who use their surplus of time to dominate all the ingame systems. Then it plays out the same way it does in real life with feudal lords and rent seekers at the top of the totem pole, except it's people larping in a video game.
>>750600261wow thats an amazing idea youd think games like this already existed decades ago or something
>>750600517I think guild size can be a problem. I'm not sure if it's inherent or not. ARK tribes and alliances form up pretty heavily, but I didn't ever experience it personally, from what I can recall. But I played Small Tribes mostly (6 player tribes and no alliances). But if guild size is not inherently a problem, and people can either join groups or have a base that's raid-proof, then let people join up and exploit everything about the game. As long as there's an auction house, you'll always have items.>>750601197What A+ sandbox MMO have we had in the last 20 years? I want to say ARK is an MMO because DFO and Lost Ark have channels and are MMOs, so that would be a correct answer, but ARK is at least tied for the #1 game in existence.

Play EVE. Get into a good corporation and learn PvP.
How did the French manage to make the best MMORPG of 2026?
>>750600261the average gamer cant handle making their own decisions on what to do
>>750606459>learn to multibox and be part of an excel spreadsheet
>>750600517That's just how humans operate. I remember when WoW classic launched four guilds immediately became the effective lords of the server dictating anything they had any control over. World bosses, the auction house, recruitment, etc.Honestly it's kind of an interesting topic.
>>750600261Not online is PvP antithetical to MMOs, but MMOs over time have changed to cater to them more and more, so what exactly is the complaint here?
>>750607443You don't have to do either of those. EVE is at least a fun solo PvP game if you understand matchups, and theorycrafting fits can last for hours. Corporations are even better because, if you can get into ranged tackle fits, you can hold down huge ships while your teammates combine DPS, without risking your ship. A Griffin (ECM) is one of the most fun things to fly, and it completely shuts down ships.
>>750607746I'd consider EVE if it had mono-account server like Dofus does. And does EVE even have a strict "solo PvP" 1v1 game mode? Isn't it open world? If it's open-world, then being mono in a game where multi-boxing is incredibly advantageous means you're a second class citizen.
>everyone's MMO idea is always "how can I grief others"
>>750607594Would you like to try that again in English?
>>750607879It's open world, but there are plenty of targets if you don't mind roaming around for an hour or two only mostly playing tag and sometimes only fighting a ship or two. Fast, ranged gameplay means you can make a quick exit unless you're fighting someone faster and more ranged.I think the Hecate is really successful, because the massive DPS clears your target before backup arrives.

You can give players whatever they want if it requires skill to keep it.>mmorpgs have an end, even if it is not a plain credit roll but an invisible ceilingNot really. A bigger base, higher crafting recipes, more fights, more friends -- it can be anything you make it, literally every single day.>Also, mmorpgs are only true fun when played with other people who think like youI don't mind picking up randoms. I haven't ever found somebody that's really low skill. Humans are extremely capable.>is ok if you successfully game-design just literally the hardest games imaginable, broI'm not seeing the connection between a dynamic world and difficulty. People have a tendency to group up, which can make playing solo hard to do, but if you can get people to play with you or the game allows you to build extremely well defended bases, you shouldn't have a problem.
