Play Tormented Souls.

It's not really mainstream, but there's a horror mmorpg I always wanted to talk about, called "Requiem." It's your typical south korean grind, but the monster designs are really cool. It's essentially dead, with about 20 players playing the game last time I checked.

Good concept, Good designs, very poor execution. But it's the only game where I can say I saw a monster that was shitting out another monster.
>>
>>750583324
Finished this recently, despite some gameplay jank and the rushed final section the atmosphere and soundtrack are some of the best shit since SH1, even when there's no enemies anywhere you think you're going to get spooked by someone because the music is so oppressive.

If you used a guide, you didn't play it.

Play MOLE

The last horror game I played was Feed My Mech and it was such dogshit I didn't even see the part where you feed it.

Any good horror games with sea/water monsters?

let's say it's a mouthwashing but with a good gameplay with a compelling story. just play it
>>
>>750583324
Christ, wasn't this picture from a creepy pasta? The "meat show thing" or something? I think I saw it 14 years ago yet seeing it here flashbanged it from my memory. instantly recognized it.
>>
>>750583765
Dredge/Soma are the first ones that come to mind, but Dredge isn't that scary and Soma will depend on if you think the story is good/shit (there seems to be a divide).
Subnautica isn't a horror game but does "big spooky seamonsters" better than most, only the first game though.

Those are all kinda obvious picks though, so for one slightly more obscure one, I had a good time with the short game Wretched Depths. You just fish and shit gets more fucked up as you go deeper. Kinda like Dredge but a lot more short and focused.
Not many jump scares or anything but it's got "fish that get fucked up" in it.

I've really been meaning to get The Heilwald Loophole. It's a typical PSX styled horror game, but the premise, music, and atmosphere is really well done based on the videos I've seen. It's also got a fair amount of sillyness that acts as some respite.

Is Iron Blight any decent?

I remember playing this when it came out. I absolutely loved the nightmare monsters that came out at night. The problem is that they made them too hard to solo, so when they come out, you're essentially town-bound. I think I made it to level 60-70 before I gave up. Extreme lack of quests, and enemies in your level range gave 1200 exp... when you needed a billion to level. I'm not dealing with that shit.
>>750584042
Is Wretched Depths one of those cool project games that people make, or is it something on Steam?
>>
>>750584178
I've only seen video of it and it looked distinctly "okay". That's all I've got though.
>>
>>750584032
The artist makes dioramas, but yes people stole the image for a creepy pasta. Some sort of SCP shit.

>Is Wretched Depths one of those cool project games that people make, or is it something on Steam?
It's on steam, but was made as part of someone's video game uni course I think.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2343240/Wretched_Depths/
Just be aware it is short, doesn't have combat etc, it's just a brief spooks ride. There's a reason it's free, but I liked it.

I can't tell if this image is SFW or not.

I refunded this garbage because all le heckin' wacky humor did was take away from the atmoshpere.

I had my eye on Divine Frequency but it seems it's also doing this needlessly zany and wacky humor in your horrror game for literaly no discernable reason, just fucking why!?!?!
>>
spooks AND sexy statues!?

Oh, that makes the decision easy. I'll give it a try!

Stop having mumble rap playing in the background, log off from discord and turn off your second monitor. Also stop playing in the middle of the day.

For me, nothing could scratch the itch that Silent Hill 3 did. I can even watch just about every horror movie, play any modern horror game, and not feel tension.
>>
>>750584539
I have the same issue but with just games. It's been years since one actually got me that wasn't just cheap jumpscare tension.
>>
The Forest (First one, haven't played the second one) was very well done. The sound direction and AI was something I haven't really seen before.

Also, I liked making effigies.
>>
>>750585053
I got fucked off with that game trying to survive the first night or two. Seemed like you needed to know where you should/shouldnt setup base and I didn't want to do that.
>>
Obvious choices are
>Silent Hill 1-4
>Resident Evil 1, 2, 3, and 7
>OG Dead space
>Siren
>>
>>750585130
That's one of the fascinating aspects of the game. I did a build one time, and it turned out that I built in a part of the forest that has high traffic.

There are some spots that they don't go to though, and you can turn off building construction. Won't keep you safe from the "Sausage Links" though.
>>
>>750585530
Well it was just while I was trying to learn the game and get the basic mechanics down, I swear I tried 3 or 4 different spots and was always getting my shit pushed in real quickly.
I dunno, it felt like I needed a wiki to get started and I always hate doing that so I just stopped. Fully aware it could be a skill issue.

Kinda want to try the Co-op mod for REmake. Looks pretty fun

You have maybe a 3 day grace period from when you arrive on the island to get shit together. Build a small shack, and hunker down as you build when it's safe. If you are in serious need of emergency shelter from them, there's a yacht in the southern part of the island with lots of stuff inside it.

Also, something that will help, items respawn after some days.

I made a small cabin that had a wall around it with two doors in the front and the back, so that there's no one-way out. I also have a platform (the blue square) where I can jump onto the walls and shoot enemies with the bow.
>>
So lads, what was the last horror game you played that really got to you?
I ask cos all the games I've tried recently haven't really "scared" me. Sometimes they're interesting or have a cool atmosphere, but IU haven't really felt actual fear since I played the first 2 Penumbra games. I tried Alien Isolation and Amnesia The Bunker but both of them have that annoying tendency where the big bad thing just always knows where you are and hangs around way too long - so it just starts to piss me off and remove the tension.
>>
>>750583635
it was literally impossible to play this game without a guide, and there is no shame in playing it with a guide.
>>
bump although I have nothing to discuss because I've been too busy all month to play anything and won't even have Halloween off also most recent games suck anyways. Still haven't finished more than one playthrough of Requiem and shit like townsfall doesn't interest me at all

I cannot believe that its still getting updates. Mad respect for the dev who we thought died during COVID19's height and then showed up more than a year later with updates.

I’d say idols of ash that one game where you climb down a pit while a giant centipede creature chases you.

I'll be enjoying the back to back Monolith classics FEAR and Condemned once again. I want to do a hard mode/no taser run for Condemned.

I always see empty MMORPGs as an opportunity for a community to go in, populate it, and declare it as their own. Like going onto an empty planet.
