The fact that so many video game critics still name Ocarina of Time as "the greatest or most significant or most influential" video game ever only tells you how far video games still are from becoming a serious art. Film critics have long recognized that the greatest films of all times are Citizen Kane and The Birth of a Nation, which were not the most famous or richest or best sellers of their times, let alone of all times. Literature critics rank the highly controversial Joyce's Ulysses over classical novels which were highly popular in libraries around Europe. Video games critics are still blinded by commercial success. Ocarina of Time invented lock-on (not true, by the way), therefore it must have been the greatest. Film critics grow up watching a lot of films of the past, literature critics grow up reading a lot of classical books of the past. Video game critics are often totally ignorant of the video games of the past, they barely know the Nintendo games. No wonder they will think that Ocarina did anything worthy of being saved

honestly if I had grown up with this remake and then played the original one, I would think it's rad as fuck. I love those "demakes" people make of modern games where they make them look like PS1 or N64 games, and playing the N64 version after the remake would just be really cool to me. Some years back I watched the original Scarface after having seen the De Palma remake multiple times in my life and I really enjoyed the original and noticing how faithful the remake had been to it.

the problem with a remake for oot is that the original more or less defined 3d adventure games, formula for dungeons and progression, overworlds, towns, quests, etc. it invented context sensitive buttons to allow controllers to handle ladders, sitting, jumping, rolling, talking, etc all contextualized to same button instead of mapping everything to unique buttons, etc. it sounds dumb now, but it literally changed so much in terms of how games handled actions in these games with limited controllers and in every other genre as well. z targeting is still used in everything and made it possible for controllers to target properly and cycle through targets. batman arkham games, ff7 remakes etc all use this to this day. the fishing minigame had more depth than bass fishing and other dedicated games. the game advanced so much and these are only handful of things. massive leap forward in gaming. remake is just soulless unreal slop. it doesnt bring anything new. not even graphically unique or groundbreaking. no gameplay. no technical feats. just completely soul less. like i dont care for botw or totk, but it did something new for the franchise at least.

There is literally no point in remaking this other than marketing. The story and gameplay of OoT is just barebones that was only impressive because it was an early 3D game. Ignoring capitalism and dumb goyim, this remake has 0 purpose. Even then you could just make "Ocarina of Time 2" and make a new game with a thought out story and gameplay loop.
