Will llms reverse engineering everything kill gaming? this is like napster killing the music industry in 2000 all over again.
I don't get the big shit, not like free clones of adobe or say, office, wasn't a thing before.
>>750569167I mean if some brazilian can just reverse engineer your game on claude for $10 and then hand it out for free, what is even the point then.
>>750569196they took years to make before
>>750569167AI will playtest the game soon enough.
>>750569167>gamingit's going to kill everything.
Product cloning isn't new, we've had people try and copy games that aren't out yet but highly anticipated before as well as of course following released and successful games.Hell same with various physical products to a degree, someone else does design legwork and woosh alibaba/temu/amazon (which is just american temu lets be real) is overflowing with cheaper copies. Why should I believe your chatbot can "reverse engineer" something like ghost of tsushima/yotei? I mean it really smells like pic related all over again.
>>750569407Yes and guess what open source programs the "AI" could look at to "reverse engineer" it.
>>750569167not my problem, I will own everything and be happy
>>750569196Adobe don't need to worry about clones of their software because what they're actually selling isn't a software license, it's protection from their Compliance Auditors who have the legal right to show up at your place and ""start discovery"".
>>750569167Doesn't look like a game that AI could just copy. And just plainy taking all the code and using it for your game is still illegal.
I really don't get this fear of cloning people know where the real game is, the original release of both games won't even be the same and if someone goes out of their way to get an AI copy is not like they were going to buy it anyways
>>750569796>it's protection from their Compliance Auditors who have the legal right to show up at your place and ""start discovery"".Can you elaborate?
>>750569167It's not reverse engineering. Always assume tech bros and normies are lying when they talk about this stuff.
>>750569167only if they target AAA devs like Valve, these platforms don't give a fuck until you clone csgo and monetize it
>>750569167if anything these ai jeets "exploiting" this for their "hustle" are about to make every country in the world make assrape laws against anything reverse engineering related, which would obviously include emulation
>>750569829Imagine multiplayer games, anyone has access to the source code and can create his own exploits with just a prompt compiling the whole game as he sees fit. On day one.
>>750569863Kinda like the "AI broke out and hacked this company just like by itself" thing.
>>750569745It can't actually reverse engineer or reconstruct a game but it doesn't have to All it has to do is flood the market with shitty broken "clones" and the origin game can't be seen among the crap
>>750569950Cheat makers already make day 1 hacks with leaked betas.
>>750569829in the chance every english speaker knows the source material, there are plenty of foreigners who don't. they sell scam malware clones on russian or chinese gaming platforms that ruin the reputation of the game that you worked hard on
>>750569950multiplayer games should have moved to be cloud only a long time ago
>>750569950>checksum is wrong, can't access the serverThere's a reason cheats are external
>>750569958If only there were some kind of quality standards.
>>750569950That's where you skills has a level designer should shine more than the AI no? Like that one game about the drinking demon girl the dev was also scared of the code being cloned by AI but is like....the game it self is just generic Russian roulette everyone just want to buy it because of the cute girl, if the AI can't beat you by making an even cuter girl you pretty much win
inferior one shot surface level clones with zero post release support and bug fixes are just free advertising for your feature complete product
>>750570001My man the whole reason my games are so easy to hack now is because companies wanted to save money with p2p and client side hit detection. They can't even afford to run an authoritative server what makes you think they'd run the entire game?
>>750570032The fault should be placed on the AI user for scamming, not the dev for executing their idea and having successful marketing.AI users duplicate any game with successful marketing.
>>750570032>the game it self is just generic Russian rouletteThat's being a bit generous. The game is literally just a Buckshot Roulette clone with anime girls, ironically.
>>750570094servers are extremely expensive, that's why. they used to be cheap during the dotcom bubble
>>750569167oh nooo... game devs have to hire people to test their game instead of getting paid to let people test. but the real victims here are the backseat game devs who spend all their time on the forums
why would AI need to reverse engineer anything?if you show me 10 seconds of gameplay in your game? why couldn't I tell the ai to make something similarisn't that the point of AI?so for example >YOUR GAME>GAY KNIGHT QUEST>KNIGHT JUMPS PLATFORMOkay claude make a platformer, set in a goth castle and make the controlable character a kemono with a fat ass and thick thighs.like what did people think the end of game of AI was? >but this means i'll have to use AI to stay competitive with development speeds!yes. yes you will because consumers wont give a shit where the slop comes from only that it's served fresh, how is this news to anyone who isn't a child? look at some chinese factory lines and where well known brand clothes are made. I don't get it did people just not think about AI past it makes art now?
>>750569167>Alpha/beta/public playtest are now too dangerousGood, let the studios actually pay for playtesters instead of that stupid "yeah you can pay US to do our job for us!"
>>750570238Professional crybabies are used to having influence on the internet. Now that I think about it, that's also what jews are.
>>750569167>tower defensevaniaI feel repulsed and I hope they crash and burn thanks to AI slop
>>750570217>game devs have to hire people to test their game instead of getting paid to let people test.if they don't, then their games become extremely dumbed down like Wolverine because they cater to people outside of their target demographic. It is cheap for them to do, but also smart. That's what id software did with the shareware model. You want paying fans experienced with that genre to give feedback, not mobile gamers on contract looking for a quick buck.
>>750570238because they don't want to be cucked to a subscription service that can be enshittified at any point
>>750570164>>750570164And I'm saying that makes cloud multi-player games a dumb idea
>>750570638games have only gotten worse since early access. the devs should be part of the demographic.
>>750569167If your game is so simple someone can vibe code a clone over the weekend what the fuck were you doing the whole time and what am I paying you for?Entitled communists and labour theory of value strikes again. Just because you work inefficiently doesn't mean the market will pay you for it.
>>750569861No idea about adobe, and what they fuck could they even enforce, but for BIMs you are required to use specific vendor software as specified by the project manager even if some vibecoded niggercad can output the same model it can't but you know.
>>750569861Gemini says disgruntled ex-employees sometimes report unlicensed use of software to the Business Software Alliance, which has the authority(?) to levy hefty fines on the offending business.Sounds very dystopic.
>>750570982Based retard.
>>750570238>why would AI need to reverse engineer anything?Because it can't code for shit but is really good at decompiling, duh.
>>750569167i dont even have the energy to play real games, you think im going to even look at slop clones? If someone was talented enough to improve on the game they cloned they wouldnt be cloning shit in the first place.
>>750569167Big companies will have the connections to keep clones of their games from getting on steam etc. Indies are fucked.
>>750571398Based non-gamer /v/ poster
>>750571398Same thing with other forms of media I already don't read/watch/listen to most humans made media and anything below a certain quality is effectively worthless, so why would I ever consume ai media in any real way
>make slopgame>get outslopped
If your marketing is solid then no one will even find the so called clones.
>>750576095The most likely outcome of someone cloning your indie game is now 2 indie games will fail
>>750576208I'd agree if it was a niche of a niche with a potential customer base of a thousand people worldwide. This isnt the case with the OP's studio.
>>750569829Anon if you've ever seen the Nintendo eShop or even the most recent Steam Next Fest you'll immediately understand. It's less about the copies themselves and more about those copies flooding the market and burying the original by getting shat out before the original is finished
>>750576435>This isnt the case with the OP's studio. If the dev is a known guy it seems weird that he could actually suffer much from some garbage clone being released ahead of his game. I'm not really sure I believe it.
I remember there was a time when Kickstarter was more popular that when it came to physical products at least, something that would happen to any successful kickstarter is that the chinese would immediately copy the product just based on the design and intent alone, then give it a name that was very close to the kickstarter version and put the sham product up on every storefront they could like Amazon and Temu before the real one could even finish the kickstarter, and of course every single time these copycat products were of horrible quality, fragile materials, excessive contaminants, coolers that didn't work, misunderstanding mechanisms, zero research, etc. Not only were they catastrophically bad, but then people who fell for these fakes would actually go and complain to the people making the real products, and they'd get indignant because they suddenly started to assume that the real product was going to be shit just because the copycat was shit. It's pretty much like >>750576469 says, even if the copycats never reach the quality of the original, there's going to be some kind of burnout or obfuscation that just makes it difficult for anyone actually putting in the effort all so some faggio in a third world country can get $50 to cover their rent for the month, and these copycats would never exist without the originals, and usually they pick them out because they see it going viral or people saying good things about it, they would never copy something they assume to be shit. Not actually sure how much it impacts sales, but we'll probably see the potential outcomes in a few months. Not even AIbros buy AI games, but I know I was really demotivated trying to look for games on the Nextfest because of how much garbage I had to sift through in comparison to previous times. It would suck if after all this time of Steam refining its algo that we have to go back to personal recommendations from elsewhere.
>>750569167>i have to crowdsource my ideas man game>nooo the bots will steal itit wasn't good to begin with
>>750570217you can't just say that...
>>750569167im genuinely happy and excited for the end of perma early access trash that minecraft helped push onto the world.maybe games like valheim wont take 5+ years and miss/delete their roadmaps.
>>750569167AI tends to "kill" already relatively valueless niche content. It is known.
>>750569167Don't worry, Anthropic has already lobotomized Claude
>>750569958>industry trains consumers to be mouth-breathing retards without standards to maximize revenue>it backfires when they pick the AI slop and asset flips over real gamesSounds like a skill issue on part of the industryYou reap what you sow
It's so funny, I thought AAA greed would have done gaming in, and it was about to, but AI lapped it there at the end
tower defensevania????>make a game composed of other existing game genres and mechanics copied from other games and slopped together>get mad when other people do the same with your game
>>750579172Based. We can't have AI agents stealing from corporations.
