Why don’t people just use AI to make new levels for old games? instead of mashing two games together doesnt using ai to make authentic new levels for old games seem like a actual good use of ai? It might be better 8/10 or even 9/10 times than if a human did it, because the ai is studying the patterns and average of other levels so it SHOULD feel relatively authentic to the original game. Vs a human where they will probably not exercise any restraint and turn their new content into more of a personal vision thing.

Take a game like pic related for example which takes place in a mall. Perhaps you could make a second mall? Or even expand the first mall and make it a little bigger. It COULD be based.

A human could go over everything for a final pass to tidy it up of course if that want. But this seems like an actual good common sense use of ai.
>>
>>750563720
If Blizzard won't give us Vanilla+, we'll just have to do it ourselves.
>>
>dead rising would be better if it had TWO malls!!!
This is why nobody really takes AIjeets seriously.
>>
>>750563796
No what I’m saying is because we have played dead rising 1 multiple times, it would be fun to play in a different environment. And to preserve the original mechanics instead of moving to a different game or a reboot. So yeah unironically a second mall would be fun. if you don’t think it would be fun toure just being a faggot. Dr1 is basically a sandbox game. it would benefit by keeping everything the same but giving you a new area to play in.
>>
>>750563720
Because it requires substantially more effort, planning, designing and also testing, and integrating. Overall, just substantially more work. And unlike a quick mashupslop, it won't translate into a viral social media clip.
>>
>>750563914
>substantially more work
Oh no you might have to write another sentence or two in the prompt!
>>
>>750563720
These recomps come out half-assed and you want AI to start making expansion packs?
>>
>>750563963
You don't know how it works
It would take multiple sessions
Just level design alone would be harder than doing a decomp
>>
>>750563909
because making actual GOOD content takes effort
and ai users are known for their sweat and hard work, right?
>>
>>750563992
I’m glad you worded it that way- yeah that’s precisely what I’m asking for I want people to start using AI to make expansion packs because I believe ai is very well suited for making expansion packs vs any other use because it creates new things using an average of data points it’s trained on. So at the bare minimum it would do most of the heavy lifting if not the entire thing.

Take a game like resident evil 4, it had mercenaries mode with only four maps. It used altered areas from the campaign. It could have 8 or 12.

I have argued before that in a game like halo 3, you could train an ai to make new armor sets that are trained off the preexisting dozen or so to make something new that feels authentic and that’s a cosmetic option like pc games had you buy on disc expansion packs for.

games like tekken or whatever could have new stages designed.

Games like devil may cry or ninja Gaiden could have new challenges made with new arenas to fight familiar enemies in to make the games just a little bigger.
>>
>>750563720
It take time effort and dedication anon
While AI lowered the bar for everyone. let the cat out of the bag for quick and funny projects/mods
People who have taste time effort and dedication are working towards that. At breakneck pace through Agentic Aid. But still have to test to make sure they don’t make an ass out of themselves. And give faggots like that tranny Jeet poster more excuses to be so brazenly Cuck-code posting their estrogen addled minds can muster, the poor poor bastards
>>
>>750564039
Op here. There are surely use cases where you just need new areas and the level being perfectly balanced or designed really isnt that big of a deal. in fact I would argue some amount of flaws could make it stand out a bit and make it interesting. An analogy I would use is how some people in PVP games demand perfectly symmetrical maps and other people prefer asymmetrical maps even if it means one side will have a theoretical disadvantage.

Regardless the person prompting the ai could do some rough play testing and just have ai do some refinement passes and it would probably be fine
>>
If you played any game that has options to generate procedurally generated content you would already know what the problem is, even the best randomly generated Doom levels can't compete with human made ones, the best roguelike ever made (DCSS) has probably the best procedural generation of any game and even then many levels, items and areas were made by humans.
>>
>>750564927
Is it fair to say that an ai made level is simply proceduraly generated when it’s trained off data specifically from human made maps? I don’t think it is that simple even though tou could argue both ways. I understand what you’re saying but I stand by what I said that it will still be better at the bare minimum a significant portion of the time than a human making it bevause it would be mimicking the formula of the official stuff and many amateur creators would do stuff that feels inauthentic. I’m willing to settle for that in situations where there isn’t any alternative—-because many times there isnt one so it doesn’t even matter which one you think is better.
>>
>>750563720
Y'know how that worked with images, thing has 1 seed and always goes to slop, but maybe "add new level to existing game" or "complete unfinished area" could do...
>>
>>750563720
That's one of the many things it can do yeah but it'll look pretty derivative without any human input. A better approach would be to design the level/concept that you want to include, talent optional, let the AI do the heavy lifting while you correct anything that looks off. The concern now is the slop that's being posted are just for quick likes on twitter. There are those doing that now, like some anons in the RECOOMP threads, but I'm not sure if they'll ever finish it.
>>
>>750567751
I think if we had like two or three super autistic fans of a game and gave them ai to use- they could probably hand tweak and make some really good shit for all kinds of games. Like new areas in KOTOR. I think it could work. I agree the slop shit on twitter is stupid but I foresee a situation where a few dudes with ai who also try to fet their hands dirty and learn could make shit faster and better than bloated discord teams of like 50 people fucking around making shit that ultimately isnt even authentic feeling in the slightest.

>>750563720
>Why do cretins using AI to repack emulator code not do actual difficult work that requires creating assets and actual decomposition
Because they're cretins repacking emulator code.
If you actually fell for the bullshit hype AGAIN you have no one to blame but yourself.
>>
>>750567908
Get 50 super autistic dudes to work in tandem with the AI and they'll crank out stuff like this in no time.
>>
>>750564292
You have no idea how any of this works
To you video games are unknowable magic
Ironically making you the perfect dipshit for AI marketing to target.
>>
>>750568220
Prove me wrong using your words you can’t
>>
>>750568517
Prove you wrong about what?
Look kid, all this "recomp" hype is bullshit. They're three things:
- repackaged emu code just compiled in advance instead of JIT
- literal action replay code bullshit
- "memory passthrough" where you're running multiple full games at once and an AI made intermediary combines them as they run

The latter is the most interesting and new. It's also completely fucking pointless because it can only work for tiny slices of both games after significant testing. It's tiktok bait.

What AI is not doing is providing readable decomps or enabling actual extensible ports.
>>
>>750568734
>repackaged emu code just compiled in advance instead of JIT
Incorrect. Also why do technicalities matter to you either way if they literally run noticeably better than the emulated equivalent? Shouldn't the discussion end there?
>>
>>750568734
People have used ai to decomp an old game and give it coop when it had none, increase the player count in multiplayer games to obscene levels. surely at some point soon you can use it to edit and expand the levels in games. Or maybe people will use it to create level editor programs where a human makes the level but the ai made tool which made that possible.

Because ai creates images based on the data it’s trained on, it’s only natural an ai could eventually create levels based on levels it’s trained on. It’s the natural progress from 2d to 3d

>N-nuh uh!
Anon the recomps are literally all emu code. Even the static compilation part is based on the JIT compiler.
>B-but they run better!
They don't. The overhead from JIT compilation compared to static is negligible. In the few cases where a static recomp performs better than an emu's main fork it's because that game has its own personal fork that was then used for the recomp.
Also this discussion started with OP thinking AI and games are magic and he can just say "clod put a new mall in dead rising make no mistakes"

You are the fifth person to make this exact reply to me. I pray you are a bot and not retarded or paid.

Anon actual readable and extensible decomp projects are not AI based
AI pumps out worthless matching decomps
That's why everything being shit out is a stolen emulator and not a decomp

Shut the fuck up and get ready to flip burgers you retarded indie dev

>It might be better 8/10 or even 9/10 times than if a human did it
>slop consoomers genuinely believe this
>>

DR1 doesn't have actual good content. All AI would need to is make an open space filled with zombies for you to escort people through.
>>
>>750572183
Out of those ten theoretical scenarios some of them will be untalented and it will suck, and then some will be talented people who make personal passion projects vs something that feels like it’s from the original game. so yeah if you want something that’s simply authentic feeling to and just is competent and decent— I’d argue a large percentage of the time AI will eventually do it better. maybe 7/10 times is more reasonable than 8/10. I’d settle for 6/10. But it’s an anomaly when someone can make something that isn’t just decent but is done tastefully and well to fit in with the original game. And for it to be a concept that’s genuinely new feeling while somehow fitting in all those categories is like 1/10 or less. You need a rare person who isn’t just creative and an artist, but someone who has restraint and also has talent and not only has an eye for visual things and ambience but the technical know how to make it all happen. An all in one package like that is super rare in modded new content. It happens but what I said is true.

Point beinf when you download a custom made map for some game, you can go through pages and pages and pages before you find something that feels not only new but like it could have shipped with the game. It can literally take hours to find something like that sitting through mods.
>>
>>750572594
I think something could work where they add a new wing to the mall with new stores and some new items. it doesn’t have to be anything overly ambitious. another example would be something like the old grand theft auto games- if they were smaller maps it would make sense that people would want them to be larger. Dead rising has a decent sized map for what it is but if it was a little bit bigger woth a few new shops and items it would probably be even better.

If someone wanted to get a little bit experimental past that, a mode called something like sandbox or exploration mode where there is no story events and you just explore aimlessly. you could make it so bosses and enemies randomly spawn in different areas on each day bevause the day and night cycle would still be active. so basically it would just encourage replaying the game.
>>
>>750573748
Btw with the leveling system you could probably start an exploration mode at level 1 and just have fun grinding until level 50 with randomized encounters plus a bit of new ground to wander around.

On one day for instance there might be a bunch of soldiers in one area completely blocking an area off. You can try to fight through them, find a route around them, or simply wait them out with the in game timer
>>
>>750563720
Why do you think AIjeets would have the talent to make it anyway? They wouldn't be using AI if they had actual talent.
Plenty of other talented people already made "DLC mods" that expand on old games like fallout, dark souls, etc
