because most of the games run and look like absolute shit. this console aged like milk. I'll still go back and play some random games once a year cause I still use my ps3 as a blu-ray player but damn is it always disappointing
>>750558627it has custom firmwares, ways to load isos/dumps from the network, custom themes, custom plugins and emulators for older gen stuff like n64, and homebrew loading. the support is there.the real problem is the barrier to entry for modding. 360 modding traditionally is handled by jumping vias on the motherboard to enable dev features because the engineering team werent allowed to finish the design (technically, the motherboard version all work from a product standpoint, but why are the traces in the finished product on the store shelves? there isnt a single playstation revision from any era with this much oversight) making it easy as fuck, especially when you use the latest softmodding jailbreak which essentially cracks the firmware with no soldering required.ps3 modding can only occur on SPECIFIC firmware revisions. if you were a person who bought a ps3 , used it for a while, and then threw it into the closet, you most likely own a ps3 with a compatible firmware revision for modding. if you used your ps3 to the bitter end of the console's lifecycle and updated to the latest revision, you are giga-fucked with no other options than finding a ps3 online for sale with a lower firmware revision. there is SOME progress being made on firmware downgrading, but even then it requires you being on one of a handful of firmware from sony (last time i checked). its getting there, a few more years and any ps3 will be able to be modded. right now you either get lucky with how you used your ps3 or pray when you try downgrading it works.p.s. the modding scene for the ps3 is better than 360. people saying the xbox won are only correct in the sense that microsoft had more reach during that era, not how the ocnsoles perform now when both are modded to the teeth with all the goodies modding entails.

Gamecube relevance today is mostly because of the Wii and Dolphin. Everyone fucking owned a Wii at one point, and they're cheap as shit and easy to softmod and natively support Gamecube peripherals. I was emulating Gamecube and Wii games fairly well fifteen fucking years ago. Gamecubes and Wiis for the most part just work even over 20 years later.PS3 and even PS2 shit has always had a much larger barrier of entry. Homebrew has always been janky. There's different revisions of both consoles that can only do certain things and have certain exploits. PS2 emulation was god awful for years and PS3 emulation only recently got decent. PS3s are memed for having issues.

I got my PS3 out of closet last year, put a 1TB ssd in it, installed CFW and found that there really isn't much to play on it that I cant play better on PC. And even the few good PS3 exclusives that exist are usually better to emulate so you can play them at 60FPS or 4K.The most shocking thing to me is just has many PS3 games run lower than 30fps. They target 30fps but often are running closer to 22fps. I tried playing RDR on it and the shit framerate just feels so bad.
