no its new with ac8 and total bullshit desu. also applies to multiplayer which makes 2/3 of all planes pointless to use if you want to win. wish they got rid of it
>>
>>750565961
well you can notice it pretty easily with strike eagle when normal missile oneshots tank (150% against ground targets for attackers) but it takes 3 missiles to kill planes (87.5%)
>>
>>750564731
Most countries banded together to build giant cannons and shit in order to stop Ulysses from decimating the planet
Emmeria went "Well if anyone else gets close to succeeding there's still probably going to be fallout" so they made underground shelters instead
After that they just economy-maxed, and instead of having a wasteful weapons program they wasted a lot of GDP on trying to solve Estovakia's problems for them
>>
yeah theres no way to do mission 15 gun only on ace without the mig21. you get 2 passes and the mission is over. it takes 1,5 to just kill 1 bird with constant MGP on the f-4, this is horseshit lmao
>>
>>750564731
Emmeria spent their money on something completely unthinkable to other Strangereal militaries: pilot training.

Everyone else just throws disposable mooks into planes with 5 minutes of simulator time, and hopes a one-in-a-million mute psychopath psychic pilot appears. In Emmeria, your wingmen kill targets when you tell them to.
>>
>>750566641
You know what Emmerian armed forces as a whole give off a sense of absolute professional well beyond that of any other nation. Everyone else struggles to wipe their ass on their own.

it's the actual in-game version rather than the soundtrack version. Soundtracks have to be shorter and project Aces likes having 7-8 minute versions there, but the entirety of Mission 21 is synced to the 15 minute timer before the shuttle launches, so the in-game version of Star-Bound Bird is synced to what happens in the mission

its a bit sad how people always go for the big songs like daredevil and magnus dei when talking about ace combat songs
my favorite songs are all lacking in vocals and the overly bombastic orchestra. songs like these are the best
ac7 for example had eastern wind. i loved the tubas coming in in the 2nd half, signifying a part of mihaly in the drones
yinshi valley was also awesome

How would Maverick fare against the average Ace Combat protagonist?

I'm convinced AC9 is just going to be a straight remake of Electrosphere for modern audiences since those are all the rage nowadays. That, or they're going to do another contemporaneous game that inches towards its setting. Maybe depicting the origins of UPEO or Neucomm since AC8 did it for General Resources. Either way, I hope it doesn't take seven years to come out.

I just beat Ace Combat zero. I had it on ps2 as a kid but got filtered and only finished AC5. After 8 this was a LOT easier, short game too everyone should take two nights and play it. OST was a bit more understated, the dogfighting was fun. The story was all over the place, I definitely prefer 8. Probably going to replay 7 before I do an 8 difficulty ace playthru

GUN only on ace difficulty really shows the effort they put into enemy behavior in this
in 7, everything was basically braindead. they dodged maybe 1 missile and then flew straight. except for scripted mihaly and drones of course
in 8, the moment you get a missile lock, even the mig21 grunts go crazy on ace. barrel roll, ascend, back down, jinking, all without a break. im actually having trouble. mission 20 was nuts, i had to resort to jousting to hit these motherfuckers

You can semi-bluff the game by offsetting your target. Aces clearly worked out I'd be an asshole and do this though because the AI wakes up pretty quick that you're gunning a different target but it's good for a double kill on initial encounter: target a guy, align and gun down another and either shoot as early as you can or do the funny kulbit and drop a pair down their neck. It also should be the standard approach for all ground targets when you're using standard missiles.

I also noticed (and I'm not sure if it's intentional, accidental or I'm just hallucinating things) that it feels like the Shadows like to pull off "Wiseman" and whenever you target one of them, that guy starts taking you for a ride, focusing on just evading as best as possible while the rest of the squadron goes after your ass from behind.
You can also tell Shadow 22 is doing the same commands that you can do, it's really evident when he orders them to cover him and they all flock to him and start shitting flares en masse.
>>
>>750565523
I hate the fact that AC3’s whole premise is basically an incel cuck’s revenge fantasy: the game
>>
>>750591726
i think they actually offset that from time to time by assigning squads the same behavior. i noticed it during mission 21 when intercepting the A10s. if my lock is on 1, the whole squad starts turning, so that targeting trick doesnt even work consistently, because they all break at the same time

I know it's most likely headed that way, but I don't really want AC9 to be Electrosphere Again. I didn't like AC3, and one of the things I like about the series is real-world aircraft mixed with fantastical machines. I don't want the whole thing to be sci-fi, AI nonsense with "muh corporations" running everything, then it's just Cyberpunk with planes.
>>
>>750605232
you're already too late, we've been heading to AC3 again since they started doing 7 in earnest. But I don't know why people seem to think they're going to just straight up do AC3 again with all the ghost in the shell references and all that when they've just built up this audience of people interested in the regular world-building. AC9 will likely be some middle ground between the two.

>>
>>750605232
I really doubt it'll be a complete retread of AC3 but they've acknowledged it as a core component of the series. If they continue down the timeline they will not ignore it. Literally D's phone is running a prototype Data Swallow OS.
And honestly, almost everything that happens in the game is centered around Usea. We have no idea how the rise of General Resource actually impacts other continents. The Electrosphere basically becomes the internet so it's important, but economically The Yukes and everyone in Anea still have what they had before. I really don't expect a full remake of 3, at most it'd be a parallel plot running alongside Simon's scheme. If two "morally grey at best" world superpowers that are above the law start fighting a hot war, other actors will move as well.
Also these guys fucking love real planes. They're not going to throw them all out or just rename them like some people want them to do so they can re-release the PS2 games. The old shit being repurposed into Coffin planes was a way to disguise Nemo in universe pretty much. A mute psycho in this universe can do anything, including rape an R-102 Delphinus with an A-10.

it just suffers a lot from the Fa-36 being pretty damn amazing having access to what are functionally the 2 best single player weapons in the SASM and SOD, while also boasting fantastic stats overall and having a large MG ammo count
>>
>>750617362
QAAM is better than SASM if you do PSM magic missiles, and X40 excels at that.
>>
>>750617695
maybe with the recent updates, but before that SASM was capable of taking out anything a QAAM could take out, but also drastically superior at taking out Shadow-22's squad and the Ladons (a SASM fired at the Ladon while it releases suicide drones blows them all up causing collateral which can take it out even on Ace with ridiculous efficiency)

I think, but don't quote me on that, a direct hit from a SASM deals more damage than a QAAM

but even if QAAM is now slightly better than SASM, it is nowhere near enough to offset the fact the Fa-36 actually has a viable secondary weapon, HPAA is also not the best (though in the situations you want it it's adequate) but it sure beats the X40's drones

desu, the soundtrack for "thousand points of light" is just disappointing. Way too short and the best moments of the music pumping up are so brief.

In the game, when you're flying into the bomber formation it just feels epic with that music blasting, the official soundtrack just doesn't capture that which is weird because the rest of the soundtrack is fantastic. I've been listening to it a lot since I finished playing the game.

Maybe it's recency bias, but it might be my favorite AC soundtrack after 5. Maybe even better than 5 honestly.
>>
>>750639135
A lot of the youtube releases of the music feel like they aren't pushing what the game versions do well. Star-Bound Bird is probably the best example where it goes absolutely insane with the extra sections during the mission updates but the OST version in the game doesn't have that and I'm not sure the streaming version has it either.
Similar problem that Mimic had, since Mimic had (Rage) and (Scream) versions that were both very different in their own way (goes crazy on the drums, goes crazy dissonant and proggy)

San Salvacion breaks down into a violent civil war due being overwhelmed with refugees and migrants from the numerous civil and international wars plaguing the continent over the past decades. Central Usea has become a hotbed for mercenaries as numerous countries in the region have become dependent on the radical instability in the region, thus regime change has become as constant as breakfast among most nations. In order to bring peace to the continent once and for all and in order to ensure corporate assets are protected, the Neo United Nations sends UPEO forces to wipe out and subjugate all PMC, rebel, and mercenary forces in the region on behalf of General Resource. However, the conflict soon escalates into a continent-wide war as parts of General Resource fractures into a rival corporation called Neucom, which has taken to fielding advanced aircraft to claim air superiority.

As Blackbeard 1 'Davy Jones', infamous ace of the mercenary strike group Calypso, how will you navigate these dire waters?

At the end of 7 basically the whole continent is devastated politically, and communications going down sets up the Electrosphere perfectly.

the ICBM mission was kino and I'm not entirely sure why people think it was hard
>>
>>750665976
I wonder how the mook pilots shot down by the protagonists in these games feel about the crazier ones. I like I don't think the average Yuke shot down by Wardog holds too much hate in their heart for their killer at this point, but everyone shies away from a Sotoan or Belkan and sits at a different table
>"No hold on I didn't-"
They've heard it all before at this point
>>
>>750644735
damn wtf is that webm from?
>>
>>750666989
probably the targeting part
i kinda get it, but i also thought that mission was awesome and is my favorite gimmick mission in the series
>>
>>750665996
Rex's wife said 22 is going to hell
>>
>>750667053
>the gemma nuggets awkwardly sitting at a table of their own because the other Sotoans don't want anything to do with them either
>>
>>750666989
It's not hard at all, just dull and annoying because you hit the invisible altitude wall if you try to do what the mission asks you to (shoot down the ICBM), so you need to slow down and take your sweet time for the ICBM to waltz into range instead. A mission which should be exciting, made tedious.

Yuktobania Sotoa war Prequel in 2009 and call it AC09
>>
Man how does AC0 still hold up this well? Literally perfect controlling.
>>
>>750667101
Yukikaze, it's weird and the story is barely explained but the plane porn of is legendary, and it's interesting
really high quality animation and design (with real sound recordings of F15 and the collaboration of the JASDF)
Also some interesting themes underneath, not only looking at human vs. ai but human + ai (against an enemy)
>>
>>750667821
The boys are prettier than the girls, also this gormless twink is the protagonist
He's okay
>>
>>750668221
Well no the real protagonist is Yukikaze

Tasha is definitely a Newtype, right?
>AC9
>GR secretly develops 5 prototype units and sends them to different countries to see what each does with them.
>Your country is facing a multi-front invasion
>Systematically down or capture each prototype with your (you) powers, at least 2 of their pilots join your squad.

I expected Rex head to be just his helmet in cutscenes but this is funny.

I believe it.

Why is this zoomer so sexy?

>>750669905
Teenaged tomboy in dire need of war trauma correction.
>>
>>750670118
I mean, as far as angsty smartass Newtype teenagers go, she handled things pretty well. Only one BSOD when her onee bit it.
>>
>>750670118
She got spanked at least once by Kate according to dialogue.

She was pretty good at killing those Gemma Nuggets when I had them on disperse and I was attacking ground targets
