it wasn't cool and socially accepted so gaming on the internet where you met up in your "sikret club" was an amazing feeling, and seeing those niche videos as well, gaming itself was great it was a nice escape, and everything was one package no DLC, or day 1 patches

Best gen

Well there wasn't strategical shilling for people to fall for shitty games like gta6.
>>
>6th gen
Past the initial hardware generation that was trying to figure out making games in 3D, they got a better idea on how to handle shit but more importantly, there was still room for experimenting and innovation. A lot more licensed games of varying quality in the west, from shitty cash-ins to some surprisingly good vidya. Every console adopted online to some extent.
>7th gen
Some form of standardization has been achieved at this point, especially with controller input and schemes. As a result, many of these games don't really control or behave too much differently to what gets made today, just lower resolution. Online models matured other than Nintendo still having a very basic implementation with friend codes and shit, split-screen was waning away slowly as more games tended to get tacked-on online multiplayer.

Non-Ninty consoles also doubled as DVD players (or Blu-Ray in the case of the PS3, patient zero of nogaems) across this time, so there was some incentive for families to get a console if you weren't already a grown-ass man. Which speaking of, physical rental places also existed. For another comparison to film, this is where the industry evidently got speedran to Hollywood and we arguably still haven't recovered.

>handhelds
GBA/DS/PSP is perhaps the best it ever got with games until smartphones ate more into their market a bit past the turn of the decade.
>PC
Genres like RTS did fine until later, and there's some notoriety in suffering from shitty ports of console games here and there (DMC3, SR2, etc especially stick out) that were only really improving by the end of 7th gen. Steam took some time to mature and also needed Valve to pump out more games. Meanwhile, DRM was the worst it ever was, and gooks went experimenting with F2P games that the west would later take notes on, warts and all.

Indie games did exist earlier but began to get a lot more traction between XBLA and Steam.

It was the decade when developers finally had enough processing power and storage space to break through the old limits and put whatever music and cutscenes they wanted onto the storage media.

It was the heyday of Valve actually making videogames before getting mired in dota and csgo, everyone still believed episode 3 was gonna be made, especially after the wild success of Orange Box.
>>
Golden age of gaming where new ideas were tried nonstop because games weren't too expensive to make. Devs weren't influenced by women or fags whatsoever. Little to no dlc bullshit.
We had it good.
>>
everything ended with gamergate. the power that be recognized the true potential(danger) of video games as the perfect mean for men the world over to bond with each other like comrades at war and tried their best to polute the shit out of the medium with tranvestive, gamer "girls", fortnite dance and other brain rot

Games were cheaper and funnier

Blue screen of death. Loading means loading. Freezing. vs AI only. "It's your sister's turn to play"

You used to be able to buy your PC games on disc.
Then any store-bought copy came with a piece of paper with a steam code instead in the later half.
Playstation players are about to go through the same shit we did two decades ago, unfortunately.
