Recently i finished Sonic Adventure 2 and wow.....what was that ending
I think is my favorite ending in the franchise
Now im gonna play sonic heroes(GameCube version)
>>
By far my favorite ending as well.
I think the story is kind of awful otherwise, even though there's a lot of 2000s "Cool stuff" going on.
I dislike the garage band guitars all over the early 3D games and I don't think Jun Senuoe or Crush 40 was ever that good, but Live & Learn is still an iconic moment. But really it's that last cutscene that just feels kind of profoudly honest. I love how they put the credits over the characters talking, and some jazzy melancholy playing over it as they emotionally come down from what just happened. It's actually very well executed and makes the game feel huge all of a sudden.

My second favorite is Sonic 06. The story is a bit... iffy because it gets too convoluted and maybe a bit too depressing, but man... you can't play 06 and not feel something when you're going up against the final boss, and even the final cutscene is actually kind of sweet and takes you from a "holy shit this game is a mess" to a "actually, I'm glad I played this."

the story and cutscenes are genuinely stupid but the most kino moment in the game is when shadow saves rouge

Well your opinion on the music is shit, I bet you probably think Zebrahead is shit as well ironically :/ but I agree with your take on 06. Fight itself is bleh, but the whole ending was a very sweet and melancholy change that I can appreciate more with all endings of the later games.

I would never listen to Zebrahead's other music but no, I love hard rock generally speaking, but just not the 80s glam rock style shit Jun Senuoue does. He's shit at mixing. A great guitar player but all his music is funneled through "letting us hear him riffing" and the mixing and the other shit suffers as a result.

The franchise really picked up when it got Tomoya Ohtani to score the music. Kenichi Tokoi was main audio director on some games as well, like Sonic Colors and they're pristine. He honestly makes a lot of the best OSTs in any game

Dunno how to tell you this but Sonic Heroes is dogshit compared to SA2
You'll be severely disappointed

>Genuinely stupid
Don't speak, it makes you sound retarded.

Endings can do a lot for a story.
It's why so many western stories are so fucking shit these days is because no one wants to write a decent ending anymore and just want to subvert expectations instead.
>>
>>750555685
its all downhill from here. every game after just doesnt stack up.
>>
>>750559785
Actually the issue you're talking about there is that most wslop doesn't even tell a story that has enough chapters, twists or even a 3-act or 5-act structure.
Far most western shit I've played in the last 20 years has a story that kinda goes like this
>Opening: Set up a bloody good hook with a protagonist who must fulfil some destiny or hard-to-reach goal
>The game
>Ending: The bad guy is defeated, and the objective is reached.
Whereas better games, like Ocarina of Time or Nier or a lot of J-games are like
>Opening: Establish the context and let the player learn the game
>First part: Let the player explore 3-4 major goals
>Plot Twist: Something fundamental changes the previous supergoal, and complicates the motivations about reaching that goal
>Next part: do 4-5 things
>Point of No Return: Something makes a final confrontation inevitable and the hero has to lock in
>The ending: As the goal is finally reached, we look back upon the story that it told, and where all the characters have gotten themselves, and take a moment to celebrate and close out the story.
SA2 is on rails so it's not fully like this, but it does run in chapters that set up a few loose threads, and then build on the characters so that by the time Gerald Robotnik is revealed there's something more at stake than simply saving Earth. The act of saving the planet instead serves to elevate Shadow's motivation to do what Maria wanted, and in doing so he now goes from wanting to destroy Earth to wanting to save it, and sacrifice himself for it, which makes him a hero.

Good shit anon. I'm assuming you're playing through all the 3D Games for the first time?

Well to warn you, 2004-2007 is considered the dark age of Sonic. The 3D games, while having a lot of charm and soul, each played very differently from SA1/2 and received poor critical reception (fans love em or hate em tho).

I got a ton of nostalgia for Heroes but I don't think it's a very great game. Protip, you can go to special stages to collect the chaos emeralds by getting a chao key in a stage and not getting hit. It's tough but you only have to do it with one team so good luck. Hope you enjoy

>2004-2007 is considered the dark age of Sonic
>look inside
>the only actual bad games are 06 and secret rings while everything else ranges from mediocre to just alright
Anytime someone says those were the dark ages I roll my eyes. The actual dark ages are whatever the fuck they were doing from lost world to forces. The only actual good game released between that time was the GOAT Mania and depending on who you ask Fire and Ice was alright. Runners also gets a free pass.

I'm glad you liked it annon, SA2 is a very special game. Heroes isn't quite as good but it's still worth your time.

Truth nuke.

>The only actual good game released between that time was the GOAT Mania
Also true. Thank GOD Evening Star is on speaking terms with SEGA again.

Hey fuck you, I liked Unleashed (wii), Black Knight, Rush, Colors (DS + Wii) and Generations.
>>
>>750555854
I think SA2 unironically has a pretty good story, it's just that it's a little messy and disjointed so you have to stop and mentally piece it together to actually appreciate it to any degree, which admittedly is not a good thing for this type of game
>>
>>750565320
All those games you listed are post 2007 and before Lost World and aside from Black Knight I consider all of them good games.(Riders Zero Gravity and Rush Adventure are also missing). You should really play Unleashed 360/PS3, banger of a game. Black Knights true shining is in its story. Top 3 material.
>>
>>750565640
Oh, but I did play Rush Adventure! It has a better gameplay and the boats where fun, but I disliked the material grind.
Its kinda sad that Tails and Marine weren't playable, since the later is basically Blaze's equivalent to Tails.
>>
>>750565764
>never got another adventure with just Sonic, Tails, Blaze, and Marine after Rush Adventure
One of those things sitting on the table begging for attention.
>>
>>750566203
Blaze and her world are such a fun idea. Shame.
