Steam controller + the customisability of steam input is the new minimum standard for video game controls. If any new console ships with anything less than equivalent functionality, it just further highlights how much of a ripoff consoles are. There's no excuse.

It's one of the most comfortable controllers I've ever used, but then I do have small asian hands.
>>
>>750549925
Mine said dec 2026 and I got it in august. It's worth the wait if you want to play kb&m centric games or do basic pc things on the tv. The trackpads haptics feel so good they're like touching nipples on crack.
>>
>>750551620
Great product and it arrived quickly. My wife loves it.
>>

I was actively looking for a job at the time the reservations went live so I was checking my email hourly. I don't think I missed it.

overhyped controller jack of all trades master of none, dpad is so small and everything is so close to each other. i love doing a really tricky jumping section in a hat in time and my hands hit the touchpads and it fucks you so you have to waste all this time disabling them for every game except like 1 game you actually want to use them. its just such a cramped dogshit controller im sorry
>>
>>750551715
its a comfortable controller until you have to use it with a game that requires skill, maybe if you only play zoo tycoon it's okay
>>
>>750549731
This but unironically and was the case when valve shipped the OG steam controller. Though to be honest the level of input control we had with the old Direct Input games was my level of standard for controller input customisation and then XInput came in and shit all over everything.
>>
>>750551876
Feels great for Dragon's Dogma and Ace Combat.
Sadly the mouse control in DD2 is dogshit, so you have to use the control stick like a homosexual.
>>
>>750551825
It's not meant to be a controller you use while you have a mouse and keyboard right in front of you. It's an absolutely great controller for the couch

you can use steam input with any controller though. the steam controller itself is pretty mid. but I agree about steam input.
>>

it's such a good controller. Four back buttons are great for shooters where you don't want to stop manipulating the camera. right pad is great for either camera corrections or as a keypad if you're playing a game that has a bunch of different functions.

It is, literally, a steam deck but just the controller, but that's exactly what you want
>>
horrendous latency, and you can't really plug it in
unusable in racing and precise games
>>
>>750549731
Steam Input is garbage software unfortunately.
The Steam controller 2.0 is also one of the worst Steam controllers in terms of what it is, they should have updated one of the late prototypes of the 1.0 (the ones without a stick) with the various back buttons, grip sensors and build quality improvements that made it onto the 2.0.
It's unfortunate that almost every Valve hardware iteration does something stupid to avoid scaring the normalfags like including sticks and a dpad while neglecting the touchpads.
>>
i hate to be that guy, but it is a comfy controller, worth selling my whole steam inventory for a free; deck, controller, machine and frame honestly.
>>
>>750560382
you want both tho

flick stick is useful for gyro aim and having the touch pad as an optional button pad is useful for games like bioshock where you have like 9 weapons if you don't want to use the weapon pause menu

>>
>>750554015
That only happened because they got sued by a patent troll for having back buttons and had to stop production. Back buttons clearly aren't an issue anymore so that won't happen to this one.
>>
>>750554064
No.
>>750554615
I'd say either get the cheapest piece of shit you can find and use that until you get your reservation or get a DSS and mod it with TMR sticks and back buttons.
>>750554748
True, but no other controller has all these inputs. Steam Input really shines with this controller because there's so much to customize.
>>
>>750562621
what is impractical about that?
>>
>>750560382
I kind of agree but it still needs a left stick at least. Using the trackpad for movement feels like shit. I was worried before release that the right stick would end up being the focus and the trackpad would be uncomfortable, but it's still comofrtable just holding it a bit lower to use the trackpad. I honestly prefer it to the first overall.
>>750560893
>you want both tho
Not really. At least on the right. The trackpad can do both aiming and weapon swapping. You can set it to switch to an input layer with a touch menu for weapons when you click the trackpad in. It's faster than switching between the stick and trackpad. I still don't mind the stick but it wouldn't lose much if it wasn't there. I'd settle for a smaller right stick to satisfy flick stick users, like on one of the Alpakka controllers, if that meant a bigger right trackpad.
>>
>>750563192
Trackpads are not easily reachable.
Dpad is way too close to left stick.
Back buttons have too much resistance, making them uncomfortable for long play sessions.
Puck is magnetic so it sticks to the controller when you pick it up. Actual practical charging docks have been figured out long ago. I've seen people 3D printing docks for the puck or double sided tape it, which says a lot.
>>
>>750563396
haven't had any issues with the things I didn't ask about, but the puck I find much more "practical" than regular docks. Docks are ugly and take up desk space for no reason. A small puck which acts as the receiver is much more practical
>>
>>750563396

>>750565192
You're not supposed to try to twist your hand to reach the trackpads. You just move your grip slightly lower.
>>
>>750565342
But than my pinky curls under the controller which also isn't comfy. It's a shame, since I use my og steampad more than the new one because when I use a steampad I use it for the pads.
>>
>>750564936
Camera control in most games, assuming they support mixed input. In shooters, aiming and a weapon touch menu when I click it in. Games with a fuckton of buttons, I use the right for more important actions and the left for secondary actions. If needed, a second input layer I activate with a back button for even more actions. In emulators, I use the left for shit like pause, fast forward and save states and the right for camera control if possible.
>>
>>750565107
>>the "X" steam hardware is the new minimum standard for "X"
No one unconditionally says that. It's just that a lot of the time, Steam hardware genuinely is better than anything else. The machine and frame are counterexamples. They're nice, but you won't find anyone saying that they're better than everything else because they're not. But the controller? There genuinely is nothing better on the market.
>>Valve moves to the next hardware fad
>>we never said that
What? That's just because the new thing is better and the new minimum standard. No one's saying the original SC was shit now that the new one is out.
>>
How do you people even stand playing with controllers? I look like a spastic retard playing with one. I can't aim for shit. I bought a dualsense on super discount 6 months ago and went to try some games. I tried stalker 2, pragmata and a ton of other first person, third person games and looked like I was 10 again.

I got the Steam Deck Oled. It's not the steam controller, it's basically a steam controller with a screen. I've been enjoying just streaming my games from PC onto the steamdeck; can just circumvent all the hardware limitations basically
>>
>>750565778
I'm on pc.
I can use the best peripheral for the job.
If I need to aim I use m+kb.
If controller would be nice and I still need to aim I use controller and gyro.
If aiming isn't important or game too easy with 100% headshot rate I use controller.
If fightan I use stick.
If fightan but I suck at it I use troonbox.
If flightan I use Hotas.
If drivan I use wheel.
If crypt of the necrodancer I use ddr mat.
>>
>>750565796
Where's the fun in that? I aim and it snaps to your target torso but what if I want to target specific weak points? It takes that extra 2 seconds to aim and shoot and that time is critical when you play on any difficult that isn't easy or normal. I get the appeal of haptics and vibration but it hasn't been enough to pull me back.
>>750565802
The only game I can play with it so far is a side scrolling game called into the dead and maybe Control resonant
>>
>>750565778
>>750565796
>>750566096
No it's not. It's called gyro and trackpads/flickstick. Aim assist is only needed if you use pure sticks. With the above, there's no practical difference compared to mouse.

It's far from impossible to press but for back buttons you want something really easy to press especially for repeated inputs. Something you'd know if you actually had any knowledge about controllers.
>the magnetic puck that attaches to the controller automatically is... LE BAD, ACTUALLY
Yes, it actually is. The goals of a (good) charging dock are :
>charging your controller, puck delivers
>giving a convenient place for your wireless receiver, puck delivers
>delivering a seamless plug in /plug out experience, puck fails miserably the plug out part

Steam controller is a turbo niche controller for those who absolutely need two trackpads at the cost of comfort and other nice features chinkshit already had for years. This is a FACT retarded Gaben cock suckers somehow cannot accept.

Why do you need a separate charge spot? This would be an "issue" with a full dock too like you wanted.
>>750567510
>Not only you have no proof but I have absolutely normal hands unlike your fatfuck guru.
You must have some pretty fat fingers if the Dpad and stick are too close for you. I have no issues.
>you want something really easy to press especially for repeated inputs
And they're easy to press. I haven't had an issue with that.
>puck fails miserably the plug out part
I just hold the cable down with one finger when I pick it up. Maybe it's not perfect but this is a tiny nitpick at best.
>at the cost of comfort
It's genuinely one of the most comfortable controllers I've ever used.
>>
For 100 bucks its a good controller no matter if you need the trackpads or not.
The availability sucks and that you probably will never see it on sale and I'm actually upset they didn't make it more niche. Nobody needs the 2nd stick on a steampad so it kinda suck at its own main identity... which is funny because people who are shitting on it should like that. But people who pretend it's shit really seem to have no idea what the alternatives are.
>>
>>750568170
I have never once thought they should remove a stick while using it. I use every part of the buffalo.

They're dogshit for repeated inputs. The best technology for back buttons are micro switches which is unfortunately rare.
>I just hold the cable down with one finger when I pick it up. Maybe it's not perfect but this is a tiny nitpick at best.
Not for a $100 controller. Valve could have done it better.
>It's genuinely one of the most comfortable controllers I've ever used.
Then you barely used any controllers.
No anti friction rings, no real dpad, cheap plastic, no additional bumpers and I'll stop at that.
>>
>>750568394
And I own so many controllers that I would instantly sacrifice the dpad and 1 stick for another 2 trackpads. But I'm also aware that's probably just me.
>>750568573
Flygdi v5 with dock is also 100 bucks anon.
Steampad competes with the 100-200 bucks class and is better quality than most 100-120 chinkbox elite controllers. Stop pretending premium chinesium isn't overpriced, too.

The steam controller or steamdeck?
I can play pretty much any game, as long as it has regular controller support; sometimes the game might not show the right button icons (xbox instead of steam icons) but that's no big deal, and the per-game keybinding configuration makes even some games without controller support playable (but 99% of the time unenjoyable lol)
If it's the steam controller that has problems working with games I'm curious what the reason is; is it not registering or what's the problem?
>>
>>750568802
Why are you lying?
>>
>>750568725
>Steampad competes with the 100-200 bucks class and is better quality than most 100-120 chinkbox elite
No tension rings, no anti friction rings, cheap feeling plastic, membrane dpad, membrane abxy, average latency, no additional bumpers.
It has trackpads, HD rumble and linux compatibility. It's a controller for fairly niche use cases.
>>
>>750568919
Price rose up a bit since then or it had some discount. Still cheaper than the steam controller (and available).
>>
>>750569130
How much is shipping?
Because if it's just €10 more, it ain't cheaper than the €99 of a Steam Controller
>>
>>750568573
>Or I could say you have skelly hands, I know it's almost Halloween just stop larping.
I just tested it and there was a good centimeter between my thumb and the stick. The only way I could get my thumb to touch the stick was by pressing the directions individually instead of holding my thumb in the center and rocking it. So I guess it depends on how you use it.
>They're dogshit for repeated inputs.
How repeated are we talking? I guess I haven't used them for anything where you have to buttonmash. But this is getting sidetracked from the original complaint of them being hard to press.
>Not for a $100 controller.
Maybe. I just don't think it matters this much. You can 3D print a dock if you really need one.
>No anti friction rings
I admit that would be nice but the sticks are already smooth enough. I was more talking about the shape which is the main thing.
>no real dpad
What is a real dpad to you? A big chunk of it is just personal preference.
>cheap plastic
I don't get this complaint. It's just plastic. It's all cheap pretty much by definition regardless of what controller you use.
>no additional bumpers
Come on. That's not even comfort related.

>>
>>750569047
>it's niche because it doesn't have these other niche things.
I give you the membrane shit. But that's being offset by the trackpads. I mean if you have other niche shit you prefer that's perfectly fine. V5 pro is a perfectly fine controller if you win the chinesium quality lottery. But for 100 bucks you can do much worse... like buying an edge at 50% off.

>>
>>750569232

>>750569382
But if the price difference and the spec/design/feel/practicality difference are all marginal at best, then paying more for the one you can get now - when you need it - over waiting a year or two, is kind of preferable.
So even if that non-steam controller ends up being more expensive, the fact that it can be had now, on demand, makes up for that.
I'd still wait for a steam controller, personally, because I don't much play games that use controllers, and I like the idea of being on a reservation list so that some other guy that really wants it, can't get it this production run. I guess we all have our malicious nuggets
>>

Fair, you can only buy the controller you can buy. Steampad is nice if you can buy it. Chinkshit is nice if it doesn't do the chink quality flip. Gamershit can be nice if you completely memoryhole having paid double and first party shit is nice if you get it on black friday together with a soldering iron and replacements for most of their parts.
