Is this the biggest "filter game" that has ever filtered?
Yeah I was filtered by it being shit
I think Hollow Knight filered more people because more people tried it.But Rain World filtered a lorger proportion.
myst, rivenla-mulana
I really tried to like this game put I couldn't even get to the second checkpoint.
I did not care for it
Sure, by being dogshit. Why do I have to grind a bunch of cycles to open arbitrary doors instead of just exploring?
>>750547489I thought that was the case but I went to check and Hollow Knight had around 24% completion rate. Rain world had 23% completion. Also Hollow Knight has 10 times more reviews. Rain world probably filtered more people through refunds
>>750547150it's staggeringly beautiful and a unique, interesting experience. it is also not fun at all, in any conventional sense of that word
>>750550030Hard disagree. Flipping and rolling and acrobating around killing stuff is a ton of fun.
>>750547150I think I got to like Day 3 and played for 40 minutes or so before I got bored. I appreciate the art direction and the atmosphere is on point, but I got lost.
>>750547150I like the game but the amount of the game that relies on trial and error development of map knowledge is actually irritating. I managed to stumble all the way to a zone that leads to the first ending because even the little dudes trying to give you hints are extremely bad at pointing the right direction.I couldn't figure out how to deal with the kelp without a guide; no enemy or environment provides you any hints that you can even do what you do avoid them especially. I honestly do not think there is a scenario which could occur in the game that would ever provide you hints on it either; so I was always relying on hurting it to get it to retreat.I'll definitely go back to play it some more, but it is the archetypal flawed masterpiece game. So much of it would have taken me hours of individual exploration and countless deaths to figure out when other shit just gets thrown at you as hints.
>>750550293You never tried tossing stuff at them? That's the first thing I did and it worked.
>>750547489>>750549069Hollow Knight is genuinely one of the easiest metroidvanias I've ever played, Rain World is way harder.>>750547538Also this.
>>750550448It's not about the tossing stuff it's that since they're blind if you move really slowly they can't see you; but it's very difficult to move slowly except by tapping your movement key/stick softly repeatedly. There are no slow enemies that it leaves alone, so the only way to find out is to trying 'walking' blithely into it. Even crawling as I understand it is too fast and will get you grabbed.
>>750549069Witcher 3 has 22% completion. This casual trash can't compare.
>This game went from literally who trash to being called a metroidvania for no reason out of nowhere alongside hollow knight I can't imagine anyone as being this much of a lobotomized retarded hivemind faggot as the peoples who plays these indie shit games.
>>750547150i loved it for the first couple of zones when it felt like a tense grounded survival game, then dropped it when it ended up turning into a kaizo mario style rage game later on
>>750550903It's kelp, it has no eyes, how WOULD it see you? Same way that the pole mimics only react when you touch them. I'm pretty sure you can also see it respond when you make noises. That said, you never need to use that fact to avoid kelp, you can just toss shit at it and run past.
>>750547538I liked la-mulana so much until midway in and then I got filtered by gate of illusion and generally just shit happening randomly on the map depending on what boss I killed. its a fucking shame
>>750547150I've finished it, the dlc can go fuck itself though. >a million maps with no clues as where to go, horrible loops connecting maps you don't want to go to, noob traps with travel with no yellow flowers, horrible unfair enemies if you think you feel lost playing the vanilla campaign don't play the dlc.
>>750547150yes, it almost filtered me not once, but on every new map.
Oh hell yeh a Rain World thread.Playing any spooky custom regions this season, Anons?
>>750550924Witcher 3 is ungodly horribly boring. They went all in on the graphics and quest writing and forgot to make the gameplay not shit. >giant healtbars>clunky rigid controls whenever you're fighting, suddenly Geralt can't move fast ( makes the new spider enemies horrific to fight with ), can't jump so if there's a small wall that's as high as your calves you're blocked, upgrades are pathetic even after grinding the new mutations with the new not France dlc, heavy attacks are detrimental to your overall damage, queen remains op and braindead, all the fights in the game got the same feeling
>>750551997filtered
>>750551940I've been meaning to play that, the music is good.
>>750552081Yeah filtered by how dogshit it is to play. Played it for hundred of hours but dropped it with the last dlc. Story wasn't a strong enough incentive argument to keep going.
>>750547150I am no where near good enough to play this game.
>>750550903>spoilerCrawling won't alert them as long as it's on even ground and you're careful around elevation changes. If they're already aggro you need to wait for them to quiet down.Granted I'm saying that with 2000 hours in the game and even I'm not 100% confident if there might be other little edge cases that alert their hearing to you.>>750552098Far Shore is such a great region. Love that entire map set. Gray Urban is a little dull gameplay wise but I love the vibes.Maybe I should replay the seer on halloween, start in necropolis and end in metastasis.
>>750551997The combat, even with the mod, and also now on the remake too is absolutely god awful.
>>750547489Hollow night plays worst than popular flash games.
>>750550293The ludonarrative crux of the gameplay is that you canonically come back after dying. You and the other animals. Smart animals like slugcats and the scavengers are consciously aware of this cycle and able to learn from it (that's why they become aggressive to you if you kill them).
>>750551940no, they're all fucking dogshitif downpour and the watcher are the "cream of the crop" in terms of modded stuff i can't even imagine how terrible the other shit is. go fuck yourself
>>750553240Half true. Your perception collapses into another one of your infinite "selves" which is why creatures die for good when you kill them and a different one takes its den after some time.>>750553371Downpour has some grade A stuff, especially metropolis. Pipeyard not so much. But the watcher is literally just worse versions of actually good mods.
>>750552174That's why you turn on the accessibility options. I turned off the karma gate requirements and made it so that I can teleport between shelters infinitely. It really helped to smooth out the more egregious elements of the difficulty.
>>750550293I think you are supposed to see the game through the eyes of an animal. You can't communicate, you get no hints, you don't know if something is trying to kill or not, your best option is flee or attack it.
>>750553448metropolis is the only highlight, yes
It boggles my mind how many people find this game difficult. I think something about modern games has just completely friend people's minds to the point where they are just complete incapable of trying to figure things out by themselves.I can only imagine them just feeding themselves to lizards over and over again going "WTF WHAT WAS I SUPPOSED TO DO!?" before quitting. Can someone explain to me what about this game exactly that they find so difficult? I can see getting frustrated when the game is occasionally bullshit and death is unavoidable, but that's not the same thing. If you are smart enough to do basic prey animal things like climb up high and hide in holes you can beat this game. Is it the lack of direction? I guess a ton of people go into the game with the objective to beat it and get mad when they go the wrong way.
>>750553240technically untrue in regards to the player slugcat because true rebirth would involve waking up at the slugcat tree, thus there is a bit of ludonarrative dissonance in that you are reborn in your shelter due to that just being a much better game mechanic than effective permadeath
>>750553656>Find a pearl in the Farm Arrays>Game expects you take it all the way to Moon for some loreThat aspect of the game is difficult in its tedium. Also a lot of the game requires memorisation of the map. Some people who can't do that in their head are hamstrung..
>>750553656something like the leg and underhang trek is objectively difficult
>>750553656There are people in this board that blame rng or their team mates instead of themselves. They never learn. They never improve. They never get better. They're pathetic and retarded.
>>750553459I cannot even remotely get the combat down pat
>>750553459so you just completely ruined the experience for yourself kek
>>750553901Combat isn't so bad (unless you intentionally piss off neutral creatures)Just keeping a rock on you and listening closely to directional sound (creatures are fairly distinct) will do wonders. All the ninja shit just comes naturally once you get the feel for movement down.
>>750553773>Find a pearl in the Farm Arrays>Game expects you take it all the way to Moon for some loreIt really really doesn't. I just did the pearl quest because I love the game and wanted to play it more.>>750553840I would say Unfortunate Developments and Sky Islands are the most difficult. I actually got stuck in Sky Islands for quite a bit unable to grind my kharma back up and get out. The Leg and Underhang are incredibly tense and atmospheric but I dont know if I would call them that difficult. Maybe Ive played the game too much to be a proper judge but I dont recall having a hugely hard time the first time I did them. Once I discovered you can skip UD doing the traditional route is kind of a breeze. Climbing The Wall can be a bastard if the lizard RNG fucks you though.
>>750554138my fellow collector.I think for new players the most difficult areas are probably Filtration (if they went there early by accident), The 5-Karma gate under pebbles if you need to farm, and ofc UD because even if you play perfectly sometimes DLL's are out of place.
>>750553730>true rebirth would involve waking up at the slugcat treeWhy? It obviously works by resetting you to the last time you woke up. Other creatures also spawn from their dens that you cannot access. Unless "true rebirth" is some ending I'm unaware of, you're mistaken.
>>750553656it took me 5+ real life hours to get across sky islands because I had only grabbed the smaller type of squidcada and didn't realize the big ones were powerful enough to get me across the gap, so I did another lap around the entire map through industrial and up to pebbles and back again thinking I had missed a major route (even explored drainage but gave up because it was too dangerous)
>>750553945Heh, more like improved it.
>>750547150It controls like shit
>>750554297Filtration is actually the very first area I went to when I first played the game. I do feel pretty bad for anyone who goes that way first. I think I had the benefit of going into the game with zero expectations since I played it when it was new and the few threads I had seen about it were avoiding spoilers and talking cryptically about things. Hearing people talk about five pebbles without context was pretty funny in hindsight.
The spiders always make me a little nervous in this game. The mod that lets you mouse aim your spear throws was a godsend. Very handy for nailing them when they're on the ceiling.
>>750554459How unfortunate. Yeah there are a couple parts in the game that are complete bullshit like that. The bridge gap is lame, but the jump at the top of The Wall is kind of unforgivable. I cant imagine making that climb and thinking I just reached a dead end.
This game has similarities to Motorslice, now that I think about it.
>>750554967>the jump at the top of The Wall is kind of unforgivableWhat are you talking about? Just plant a spear in the ground and jump up.
>>750555107Literally nobody is going to know you can plant a spear in the ground during a backflip unless they look it up m8
>>750547150Super Monkey Ball 2Last RemnantOuter Wilds
>>750554486Drainage was mine. Gave me an everlasting love of swimming dense regions, felt like a genius using snails on the leeches. Oceanic Aqueducts, my love.Yeh I avoided threads like the plague until I had like 160 hours in.Now I just gotta take what I can get when they show up.
>>750550924>>750549069doesn't account for popularity thoughtens of thousands of people probably bought hollow knight and witcher 3 and never played them, just because they were on sale or something
>>750555162Most people probably would be looking online to complain about that part if they didn't know about downward throws by that point. Otherwise it's a them problem for not finding it naturally. Experimenting is a part of the game. Not having a cool use case for downward throws would be a travesty.
>>750555241I havent actually played too much of downpour yet. Its funny I spent years and years waiting for More Slugcats to come out, and then when it finally did I just wasn't in the mood. Maybe it's finally time.
Atmosphere was like 15/10 but I hated everything else about it, I forced myself to complete it
>>750555162you can do it with rolljump spears into the upper right wall which is how I learned to do it first time.
>>750555351See, I was like you, except I used cheat mods to make the game easier. Having on demand fast travel and unrestricted karma gates is a must.
So many casuals ITT
>>750555347Gameplay wise, I think my fav Downpour slugcat was Spearmaster. You're basically at the top of the food chain. Gourmand is also fun because he's just a big fat chungus.
>>750555321I did not know about downward spear throws by the time I beat the game. When I reached the dead end I thought I needed a grappling worm. I backtracked to get one. I wasn't aware of the grappling worms in chimney canopy so I went through industrial, shaded citadel and underhang again to get one. Of course the grappling worm died and I did not realise when I finally got to the second shelter in the wall. I backtracked again but at least I found a grappling worm in chimney canopy that time so I didn't have to do it all again.
>>750555347My advice is the same as I give to anyone who asks about downpour in these threads. It's great fun if you acknowledge that it's basically a juiced up mod pack. From that perspective it will impress you. If you go in expecting the true rain world experience you will be dissapointed. Love downpour for what it is though. Also edgy donutsteel scug is best scug.
>>750555162I don't remember why, but I worked that one out myself.Used it later to backdoor pebbles in one of the routes.>>750554967>>750554138Offscreen shit like the DLL or a blue lizard are complete bullshit.Your scug *should* see them, but the screen edge means *you* can't.>>750554297I ended up in the fucking DEPTHS on my first playthrough because I took a wrong turn. After bashing my head against that bullshit for a bit I finally looked up a basic "you should be here" guide and found that I should have been heading towards a "moon" on the entire other side of the map.
>>750555674Why didn't you just go through shaded citadel and climb the leg?
>>750555682Hell no. Hard disagree. Downpour is canon in my eyes. Really adds to the lore and improves the story. Just like the EU star wars content did.
>>750555682John Wick Scug is a fun run if you turn off the gate bullshit. No, I will not haul a heavy body across an entire level filled with pools of water that melt bodies and creatues that want to eat the body. That is not fun in the least.I'm simply here to kill scavs and my drone should beable to open any gate anyways.
>>750555754>Used it later to backdoor pebblesI feel like there's no reason to do that. A run that efficiently hits all the Echos is basically a counter clockwise route through the map.
>>750555832What do you mean?
>>750555926Psure it was with Hunter. You start right next to the backdoor and getting to the front door requires you to travel a ton more.
>>750553448pipeyard is a great addition. i wasn't a fan of metropolis, it's a very combat focused region, doesn't connect to anywhere else and it has a fucking boss battle at the end. its a combat challenge that feels totally out of place in rain world.
>>750555967The game naturally points you in that direction, towards Moon. You must have known that you had more than direction to go in.
>>750547150I don't know, I was filtered by the movement in the first hour.
>>750555996A Hunter run that doesn't end with Ascension ending is bullshit. You gotta hit those Echos fast.
>>750556235The normal side scroller movement?
>>750555870I disagree but not for the reasons a lot of people had. It's simply a different vibe. I like fanfiction so I don't mind seeing it as very good fanfiction. Also there being safe spots in the rain takes away from the all encompassing "rain world" idea. At the end of the day just like most fanfictions/EUs theyre an exploration of the characters that needed fleshed out. And moon is a real QT in it. I don't mind some of the additions into my own headcanon of the mainline though. Like the microbes in the building materials repairing stuff after each rain cycle.>>750555896Also disagree here, I had some great moments planning out a clean carry route. The shelters at the top of chimney are way easier to carry a body from. Also loved picking out the prettiest scav of the bunch to take with me.
>>750556440>Also there being safe spots in the raindo what? do you mean like 5P/wall/communications array? or outer expanse. i think it's cool
>>750556263I did ascend.Don't recall what echos I had to grab, but I feel like the teleport was involved. It takes far more time to climb down the wall to get to pebbles than using the backdoor that's right there, *then* climbing down the wall to get to moon.I do like how pebbles just lowtiergods you when you reach him. Didn't see that coming at all.
>>750556293I don't even remember honestly? I think I just really didn't like the feel of the jumping.
>>750556440Speaking of fanfictions I found one called Iterations on a Rain World where Saint accidentally sends 5P back in time into his old self so he can try and fix things. Its a pretty fascinating read.
>>750555870i can't stand it because it flanderizes the game by hard focusing on the two talking characters that are 1. a surprise and 2. a very minor part of the base gamei like that it expanded on the "different slugcats are at different points in time so areas are different between them" idea though.
>>750556440>Also disagree hereThat's fine. I can see how that could be fun.Thing is. I went in right off another run expecting a shorter, action packed, combat run where you use your explosion abilities to murder scavs. Not a tedious body hauling sim.
>>750554445because moon's dialogue towards hunter wouldn't make sense otherwise. she says "you'll wake right back up" as comfort. if hunter died from whatever was killing him and were to wake right back up as he was, he'd still have that cancer/genetic modification or whatever. he'd have a day left to live, die, and wake back up in an endless loop. it doesn't make sense unless he wakes back up as a pup, perhaps with the same consciousness perhaps not, a la true rebirth rather than some strange as-is revival
>>750556526If you run and press down you can slide, if you jump during a slide you can do big lengthy jumps. If you press down as you touch the ground you can then do a roll keeping your momentum, then do another jump etc etc. You can chain advanced moves like that to go fast. You can do summersaults like in Mario to trick enemies, and you can also at the peak of your summersaults throw a spear down into enemies below. Useful to pin down lizards chasing you. Movements are really rewarding to master. Yet you can do the entire game without mastering them.
>>750556565>Iterations on a Rain WorldOh man, I enjoyed this one.Its a bit like eating junk food. And its really long too.Stopped reading during the iterator war and have yet to return, but it's in an open tab.
>>750550030It's piss-ugly actually and not remotely fun.
>>750554445>>750556645not to mention completely natural deaths like old age. are they "reborn" as old creatures again? or does the random fickle god of rebirth recognize it as a natural death and then proceed to give new life? it's very obviously meant to be the samsara, with the enlightenment escaping that cycle, typical buddhism stuff. and that rebirth is genuine rebirth and not "yooo here i'll just place you back where you were." being reborn in your shelter is a game mechanic, nothing more
This has been a surprisingly pleasant thread so far, considering where we are. Kind of takes me back.
>>750556293Different anon but I couldn't ever get used to the movement and how the game expects you to be able to flip around and shit without the slightest hints of any of it. I also didn't like snoot really being able to freely explore and having to start over at the shelter constantly if you don't know where you're going. I was trying to just play it blind and never really looked anything up other than seeing some gifs on here every now and then
>>750554970This map is cool but some bullshit. Especially that Chimney Canopy. Makes no goddamn sense next to the actual in-game layout.
>>750547150TRANNY FAGGET GAME
>>750556658Maybe I'll give it another go. For you anon
>>750547150It's really not that interesting.>no, you don't get it! it intentionally-I get it. It's really not that interesting.
>>750557132>nd how the game expects you to be able to flip around and shit without the slightest hints of any of it.The game absolutely does not expect you do that lol
>>750557132you can freely explore by just sleeping in another shelter to save your new location
>>750554138>>750554297my only gripe with pearls is that they dont respawn so if i wanted to go that route i would have to restart the game
>>750556606I can get that, I liked multitasking though.I also liked having to fight to pick the corpse out of the pile.>>750556645>>750556791Hunters sickness is a result of his lifestyle. Karma in Rain World affects how you experience that world, so living a violent, vice nature causes the world itself to be more hostile, and for one to become sick. Reincarnation is somewhat implied but we never get to know the details. We do know that when things die they are really dead, but your conciousness lives on through your infinite selves. It's possible rather than reincarnating you do literally just exist forever in the state you were born and that time isn't applied linearly for such a thing. The Watcher (dogshit dlc though it may be, the metaphysics on play are from the horses mouth itself), shows this as reality essenstially rotting into mush at the edges of your karmically aligned selves, your whole world is sick, not just you. Ascending seems to align all your many selves karmically and you all eventually ascend naturally or reach void fluid and then you get the screen of all the others you's swimming in the bath.>>750557539Remix Menu has key item tracking which respawns them near where they dissapeared after some time. Kinda cheating but Ive already done the pearl collection shit like 4 times and now im doing it with modded regions. I earned that QoL
filtration system
>>750557760>Remix Menu has key item tracking which respawns them near where they dissapeared after some time.this is great to knowi wanted to collect some pearls on my finished save while i knock out achievements but got disheartened when i realized i made a good chunk of them disappear
>>750547150Not really I'm a scrub at video games in general and found the experience rather pleasant
>>750557372The enemies all seem to be a lot faster than you, you can't just run from them. A spear doesn't kill everything either. >>750557420Well you have to explore blindly, on a timer, to even find those. That was what I didn't like
>>750557885The Pearl Run, despite it's tedium. Really deepened my appreciation for rain world. Having to deal with the fucking deer in Farm Arrays pre-updates not withstanding. But I loved getting to really do a victory lap of the whole world again. It felt so nice to see how far I had come, going from struggling to moving through with ease.
>>750557760>Hunters sickness is a result of his lifestyleno it is not lmao. it is a deliberate modification of his genome to have him die after delivering his message. he is explicitly created by nsh, the iterator. and if you want to take dlc into account, artificer is literally the epitome of violence and bloodshed and yet is completely fine health wise, she's just not able to ascend. hunter is literally just a carnivore slugcat, and there is 0 proof the other predators in the game suddenly start dying of sickness because of their huntingand if you want a purely ingame example, the lineage system basically confirms that it's true reincarnation into a new being, otherwise a red lizard or king vulture would never be able to spawn from killing a specific creature multiple times, since every time they'd just be "reborn" as the same creature they were
>>750558080>The enemies all seem to be a lot faster than youthey're mostly not, and even if they were, there are many ways to avoid racing enemies on a flat plain basically everywhere in the game. you don't need to be doing tricks on it to just jump and climb and juke. no advanced tech is needed.>you can't just run from themthe game litters throwable items all over the game to use to escape when enemies get too close.>A spear doesn't kill everything eitherhit whatever is chasing you with a rock first. it'll stun it, leaving it vulnerable to a spear. but this too isn't necessary, you can just hit it with a rock and escape.
I never beat hollow knight because it just seemed to go on and on forever. I just kept playing it and thinking it was the end but it just kept on going. I checked a guide to see how close I was and I was really close to the end but I had already checked out by then. Just a repetitive game. Same thing with final fantasy 10, although I finally went back years later and beat it just to do it
>>750556694>>750556565>Iterations on a Rain WorldLink? For some reason Google and AO3 don't find it.
>>750558201>it is a deliberate modification of his genome to have him die after delivering his message. He probably is modified to some unknown degree, but his sickness is definitely a result of his karma, this is why you get less karma from pebbles and requires echoes, you are more unaligned and he can only help you so much. Also much like pebbles and his rot sometimes these things manifest as consequence or incidence.> there is 0 proof the other predators in the game suddenly start dying of sickness because of their huntingpredation=/= violence, they live much simpler lives, hunter struggles against his own existence and suffers the consequence, much like the ancients tried to avoid. >artificer is literally the epitome of violence and bloodshed and yet is completely fine health wisedownpour has it's own metaphysics, dev commentary basically tells you not to think about it too hard.>the lineage system basically confirms that it's true reincarnation into a new beingLineage system is a result of ecosystem. When creatures die they die for good (in that current reality you experience) when creatures die the den can take a while to fill, it's a result of you putting pressure on the ecosystem and causing more agressive creatures to take their place.
>>750547150I went left and down out of the starting zone, got stuck in the drainage system because I thought the path to subterranean was the intended progress route, and was filtered. Came back a year or two later and beat it, great game.
I like the game as a concept, it's very beautiful and a fascinating setting, but the idea of slogging back and forth across this huge world several times dieing over and over to experience the whole story told through the occasional tidbit of dialogue and lore-items didn't appeal so I just ended up consuming the whole plot online
>>750547150Did the devs ever fix Rain World on Switch? Does it play better now?
>>750558987Assuming you're talking about before the 1.9 update then yes.If you're talking about after then no probably not.
>>750553656I was that guy and I couldn't tell you>first playthrough was survivor and i got stuck in industrial or something and didn't want to reset>switch to monk and the whole game is an ordeal>even manage to ignore iggy the entire time, go to depths before even knowing about 5pebbles>go through farm arrays TWICE without knowing onions lure raindeeri'd describe all of the downpour slugcats as peaceful walks in the park, so i must have gotgud by then
>>750559024>spearmaster>peaceful walk in the park
>>750559024Downpour slugcats difficulty really does come down to how much you suffered before the dlc came out, huh.So, so many people complained about artificer because they simply did not think to do a playthrough where they pissed off the scavs and learned to fight them.Same with Gourmand and his stamina. I immediately appreciated having a real trade off for his chunky power.
>>750559143He's just a weaker hunter and the pearl hauling is a lot less painful if you've tried hauling 3 or more at once before.Being able to >eat on the move without stopping or >stockpile a bunch of spears to instakill a vulture or >have infinite scav rep are just some of the ways in which it's simply "not that bad"Not pretending precipice/moons leg didnt filter me a bit the first time but if it didnt it wouldn't be rain world!

If you have any no-dialogue, third person kino that would be even better. nta but Rot is symbolic of being karmically unaligned, that's why the fringes in the watcher are all rot. Pebbles got his by trying to rage against the machine and made it through biological means, but it also eats away at realies edges.
>>750557223The dev said that you can't interpret the map as a fully flat 2d world with no depth. Some areas are perpendicular detours from the main plane. Lots of the water area maps before Moon are stacked behind or in front of each other.
>>750559596if you game over as hunter and go to the spot where you died as survivor you'll find daddy long legs hunter chilling
>>750558201>the lineage systemWhen you kill animals, they're banished from your world until the next cycle, where they might come back, or something else might incarnate in their place.
>>750559723nvm not as survivor, as gourmand
>soon 10 years since release>no game since then getting close to the sense of adventure in rain worldI CAN'T COPE
>>750559596We don't really know how waking back up works in terms of time, granted. Im 99% it's non linear and you can be wherever, whenever when you respawn as long as it's somewhere you "exist"I think starting a new game is as valid as simply respawning in that sense. Things aren't always the same, you can starve and go back in time because the game didn't save. It's safe to say he could wake up as a baby, or in a state even worse. Dying simply puts us in the "nearest" incarnation. Who knows what horrible horrible fates await hunter on the "further" ones.>This is a hallucinogenic plant. They used to call it a 'Wheel Flower'. It became the symbol for enlightenment as it momentarily enables a creature to let go if[sic] its carnal self, and to contact the selves of other planes - dreams, memories, imagined worlds. Very long ago, they would eat these and stare into the fire.
>>750559936>Im 99% it's non linear and you can be wherever, whenever when you respawn as long as it's somewhere you "exist"If that's true, we wouldn't always respawn in the same shelter and our relationship with Moon/Pebble wouldn't always be at the same point as it last was upon that awakening. If we're merging with another one of our other selves, it seems the universe always picks whatever the closest self to our last awakening was.
>>750560168Yeh that's what I was suggesting.Presumably you would move up/down the karmic ladder into worse/better selves depending on your actions, only things that really reflect that in gameplay though are the lineage system and reputation making things more of an ass to deal with if you're a dick.
>>750560282It's a shame we never got to play a scavenger campaign.
>>750560320I remember one of the devlogs explored the idea of a campaign about scavengers.Really is a shame, they have such an oddworld vibe to me.Id love to see the Abe of the scavengers. and go for the 0 souls saved ending
>>750559598>The RotIterators are big ass, mostly, biological supercomputers.Their "hardcoded" restrictions are litterally part of them.Pebbles was trying create a retrovirus that would bypass his own immune system and overwrite/remove the parts containing the restrictions. However while he was effectively performing viral brain-surgery Moon used her override code to interrupt. This caused the virus he created to get loose and slowly eat him from the inside out as his immune system couldn't do shit and his restrictions stopped him from doing much of anything else to himself.>FicsSorry, I don't have them saved and don't have time to dig ATM.I do have a link to this one handy though.https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/rain-worm-worm-rain-world.1210721/Its a completed crossover with Worm featuring Missy and Survivor teaming up to try and traverse Pebbles' superstructure.
>>750560392>spoilerI'm aware, what I'm insinuating is that rot being symbolic of struggling against existence thus becoming karmically unaligned means it can manifest as a result of consequence, not just nature. Help me out anons.I started Rain World a while back and I got filtered. I think I got to the third area, the sewer area?I understand the appeal is that your combat skills are kinda shit, if you dont have a spear and rock in hand you're going to die, my issue is I feel like there are mechanics i've not really discovered and I dont want to wiki dive because that usually kills my drive to play.Any tips you'd recommend or shit you wish you knew earlier?

>>750547150Sonic Games will always be the filterExcept 2 of coursePlatformers that dont hold your hand and let you be as shit as you truly are
>>750553240How the FUCK where you supposed to know?!???
>>750561092Using your ears in regards to creatures off screen and learning what they sound like is my #1 reccomendation. #2 would just be keeping an eye on your slugcat and if he does something that looks different try investigating and replicating it because it's probably useful. Just be inquisitive in general. As a more concrete reccomendation though since you're in what I assume is drainage if you don't mind a little more direct tip Wiggling like a fish makes you swim faster and it's really really fun, try finding the rythmn, don't press the jump button
>>750547150I got the camera scroll mod after beating it the first time with survivor and it made the game so much better. No more getting iced by things you can't see right next to you because of the screen edge, it makes the experience feel much more fair

Survivor, Hunter, Monk, Gourmand and Saint are male.Rivulet and Artificer are female.
>>750547150After you get top ranks in Devil Daggers, you stop judging people for liking or disliking shit games.
>>750561683HmmmmmmmmmmmmmI think I think of EVERYONE but Artificer as male.Although, nowadays- because of Artificer, I kind of like the idea of slugcats being like hyenas where the females are the big, agressive ones and so kinda wonder about Hunter...
>>750561775Rivulet looks pretty feminine to me. The name sounds feminine, too.
>>750561858Riv's lore (atleast to one of the devs headcanons) is that they're constantly up to random adventures and getting into hijinks. And what we see in game is just one adventure in the great story of Rivulet. So I kinda imprint the idea of the adventurous young shota onto him. Like Link or every single manga protag to ever exist. Also "Ruffles" is such a boys name.
>>750561775>big aggressive onesDoesn't hunter also weigh slightly less or am I mistemembering? I thought you could do the starve/flight thing with a squidcada
I'm not a big fan of the little spiders that gang up on you.
>>750561957Hunter is like 1.25, with Survivor being 1 and Monk being 0.75. Being heavier affects flight, but also makes certain predators more hesitant to attack when they detect you. Monk is harder to see and hear in order to compensate for this.
>>750561957Hunter and Artificer are actually 12% heavier than survivor.Which is why you can throw creatures around easier, mass affects your ability to muscle shit around. (spear damage is seperate though)Monk and Hunter are 5% lighter, Spearmaster 15% lighter (which lets him do the squid glitch without starving)Gourmand is 35% heavier but that shit aint genetics (I think... he's definitely built different regardless).
>>750562085Monk and rivulet*
>>750553656Rainworld isn't difficult, it is tedious and unfun. Silksong is an objectively much more difficult game but has a much more positive reputation because the game is actually fun to play. You're focusing on the wrong reason for why Rain World filters audiences.
>>750562085As I recall, there's like 3 normal tiers of spear throw damage, with Monk being weakest and Hunter being strongest. Gourmand has an absolute canon of a spear throw that's in a class of its own. He can jump way further by using a spear in the air and his damage is at least double the norm. This is balanced by Gourmand getting winded for several seconds after a throw.
>>750562206Oh yes, gourmand actually does triple damage. It's fantastic. The platforming potential is very fun too.(Winded he does 33% which means even monk is 2-3 times stronger than him).If you've ever played multiplayer, monk is funny because he struggles to reach the 1 damage threshold to actually kill a player and you can just end up with pincushioned players. I think you need a spearslide or something to garuntee a kill as monk in pvp.

Rain World is the best game ever made. A game Roger Ebert never played.
Downpour is badWatcher is badAll modded regions are badThe game set such a high standard nothing can come close to it. These OC campaigns have no mystery to them, you play as some super mutant that breaks delicate balance. Regions are overdetailed mess, often take visuals over gameplay when original game had perfect balance of both. Layouts suck ass, new creatures are boring or some other dumb overpowered crap like those FUCKING Blizard Lizards. My biggest gripe with some of the modded regions, Watcher included because its a repackaged mod pack, is how they butcher alien nature of the game. These fucking container boxes, straight from real life. Rain World is supposed to be alien, its supposed to be confusing, hard to understand the function and meaning of. But these retards put real life containers into it. I hate them so much.
Gourm and Arti are the only Downpour campaigns I replayed as much as Survivor.
>>750575347>Rain World is supposed to be alienit has straight up train cars you retard
>>750575347>These fucking container boxes, straight from real life. Rain World is supposed to be alien, its supposed to be confusing, hard to understand the function and meaning of. But these retards put real life containers into it. I hate them so much.uhhh anon??not to mention many graffitis throughout the game
>>750575761>graffitisheres one as an example
>>750575730>>750575761>Yep, we have thought about more recognizable architecture, but we gravitated away from it. For a few reasons, the main one definitely being that one James mentioned. If you can recognize too much in the environment ("That there's a fire post", "that there is a roof drain pipe") the environment wouldn't feel alien anymore. As the creature you play is supposed to not really grasp what's going on in the world around it, the player should be in on that impression. We are going for a thing that's more abstract or expressionistic - what's displayed on the screen is supposed to serve an emotional narrative, and that emotional tone has "not quite understanding what's going on" as a very important center piece.reading their original devlog is kind of blackpilling. One of the greatest games with such a strong vision ruined, hijacked by modders who jerk off to slugs and roleplay as iterators
>>750575992now while i agree that a lot of the modder's decisions are questionable or bad, this quote conflicts with what the original dev went ahead and put in his game anyway
>>750575992i mean… it doesnt seem like they followed that vision much even in the original game
>>750575761>picthe whole reason that walk is surreal/amazing is it's the most comprehensible thing you've seen in the entire game.
>>750575347I do wish they stylized the boxes a bit more. But the idea is pretty solid.
>>750576196>is it's the most comprehensible thing you've seen in the entire game.but it's not? there are very not-alien-at-all radio dishes/towers, there's a whole level that's a subway line and there's a recognizable sewer level (not the watcher one)
>>750576129its a reference to how the game's original concept: rat in a subway simulator>first and foremost is that we wanted to create a world as seen through the eyes of something slightly below human intelligence. the slugcat is smart enough to recognize that there is probably some purpose to the structures around it, but not comprehend their meaning. same with the use of "language", letters and characters, etc. the idea is to create a kind of dreamlike atmosphere where the player projects meaning into the structures they see, creating their own expectations about what they might be for and where they might lead, and we play with resolving those expectations quite a bit in the region / world map layout.similarly, we wanted any specifics about the previous cultures of rain world to remain vague. the player might assume "human" by default, but thats not necessarily the case and we dont want to feed into that reading too much. whats important is that they were there, they built these structures, and now theyre gone.also important is that the slugcat operates among the in-between spaces of these industrial ruins, like a rat in the subway or a squirrel on a rooftop. you'll sometimes see those overtly designed I.M. Pei vistas, where the structures seem to line up in some grand plan, but most of the time its a ditch filled with garbage and a pipe sticking out, or the crumbling basement of a building. so even if it werent some fantasy alien world we were working in, i think we'd still keep the overtly human signifiers to a minimum.and the train cars once again have alien implication to them .Its not a subway, its a supply line for transporting void fluid
>>750576196Good point. When I saw it, it was thinking "Huh, something organised used to live here."
>>750576314>its a reference to how the game's original concept: rat in a subway simulatorso yes, it is conflicting with the quote that they moved away from the original vision.>>750576314>once again have alien implication to them .Its not a subway, its a supply line for transporting void fluidanon there is nothing alien about using trains to transport goods. that's common practice in our modern world.
>>750576196exactly. They couldve made their own Metropolis reagion, there are multiple mentions of Kowloon Walled City concepts in devlong. They didnt do it because it would be too familiar
Do I have to find all those trippy gods? I'm right beside one but I'm low karma and I'm sorta stuck
>>750576412You're too obsessed with not wanting to understand things. The trains something you find long after meeting 5P. You should know that something build him.
>>750576576you said something obviously untrue so i refuted it.>The trains something you find long after meeting 5Pspeak for yourself. also obviously something built everything in this game because it's almost entirely comprised of very obviously artificial structures and crumbling architecture with multiple regions built on literal scaffolding. you cannot seriously be pretending that it took until fucking meeting 5P for that to click with you. refuse to believe it.
>>750576736Everything I say is true, though. You're breaking stuff down too much. You can say "this is a train" as much as you can say "this is a box". But why is there a box? Same deal with any random pipe or box or whatever. You underthink everything to convince yourself you understand everything.
>>750547150So boringso so very boring
>>750576532Please answer. can I see them again later? I'm stuck betwee farming karma to try and see them or open the door and keep playing
>>750569835>What did you think when you first finished the game?"Wait....was the slugcat meant to be sperm?"Then I read up what the story was actually about.
>>750571591It depends on how you play. It took me 42~ hours to finish the game but that was because by the 30 hour mark I got lost and had weird incorrect ideas of how to go forward before eventually finding the right way.
>>750576412>so yes, it is conflicting with the quote that they moved away from the original vision.is it conflicting really? I see it it as coming back to it full circle >anon there is nothing alien about using trains to transport goods. that's common practice in our modern worldsure, what I'm saying is everything familiar in RW has alien implication to it. A communications Array in real life is a massive construct of towers, scaffoldings, pipes and computer mechanisms. Its called Sky Islands for fuck sake, does that not elevate the concept to you? They couldve made just some towers with antennas on them, but they went far above and beyond. What would be a subway with abandoned trains in real life is a underground deep railway to transport void fluid, it goes over ruins of other alien civilizations and has giant labyrinth of pipes below it. Have you ever seen a sewer so beautiful as one in RW? I havent. Even something as simple as ocean has things to it that make it alien, look at these giant cables in the distance, what are they even for? The level design also pushes this idea as I already shown in some of their devlogs. These regions dont look traversible to us humans or anything humanoid. There are realistic assets but no realistic spaces in these areas. No doors, ladders (though some poles often look like one), nothing that would look like a working space
>>750577045>But why is there a box?i think its pretty safe to assume objects resembling trains sitting on what resembles train tracks were used for transportation of goods or people. i think it's pretty safe to assume the objects resembling radio transmission arrays built high in the sky on metal and concrete frames were probably used for transmitting information. i think it's pretty safe to assume the complex of pipes and drainage filters CALLED DRAINAGE SYSTEM accessed from underneath the area called OUTSKIRTS which is positioned adjacent to FARM ARRAYS and INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX and leads to an area called SHORELINE is likely some kind of storm drain (as in RAIN world?) or sewerage system. i don't think you need to see the talking robot puppet to come to these conclusions because they are self-evident.your position is farcical.

>>750577989then the not humans populating this not earth also used cheap cargo containers just like they used trains for transporting goods or citizens and used radio transmission towers for communication and had industry and agriculture and built courseways for the industrial and agricultural runoff.
