You go through ~50 story fights on different battlefields with little gimmicks here and there. It's not just about having the strongest attack and defense, you need to move around the map (the game uses a rtwp-like system so attacking and movement both cost time). There's a few different viable ways to build your characters.Every now and then you step away from battling and hang out with your characters. Do some quests and you can choose you're waifu and the end of the game.For Langrisser I like 2, 4, and 5. Probably best to start with 4; it has better gameplay than 2 and 5 is a sequel to 4.

As an old retard, Warsong on Genesis is the GOAT. I did eventually play Langrisser 2 on Genesis once someone released a translation, but I never really continued with it as a series (since none of the games were localized other than 1). Great nostalgia for Warsong, though. I enjoyed it a lot, but funny enough I thought it was complete dogshit and had to go through a couple rentals before it all clicked and I saw the light. Then I bought it and played it pretty often in my teens.

I've tried playing Growlanser IV but RTWP filters me. I've tried playing Der Langrisser but the menus felt awful and the game in general just didn't feel responsive which made it feel like shit so I stopped. I played Shining Force 1 right after and it felt fine so it isn't just game age. Maybe I'll check out Langrisser 4 sometime.
