Megaman is so fucking cool I hope they keep it as is. I don't trust hollywood and the west to adapt it if they didn't think to make the modern cartoon they did based on the original art style from the japanese cover art
>>

How did this resolve with Wily surviving?
>>
>>750527698
No. The Japanese side probably isn't even aware this line exists. They're the ones creating the games and stories. At most future translations will try to force parity. The intelligent thing is to just ignore an old incorrect translation.

Whether or not you like him saying the quiet part out loud (which Capcom still approved) it is unmistakable that he raised his buster to Wily while the man bwgged for his life, and did NOT move to help him when the ceiling collapsed on him. So the sentiment remains the same.

Personally I like the line read. Adds impact to an already raw moment. For a moment that little android's brain ticked over to "Why don't I just fucking kill him and be done with this?" A very 'human' moment for Rock, even if he ultimately hesitated
>>

>Has Buster out, charging shot
>Puts buster away and just yells "Die Wily" while standing still
The change in dialogue is obvious from that alone.
>>
I’ve been using panel & sword-focused chip folders the entire game, all of which are worthless against him. I’ve traded most of my excess chips to the battle chip trader so I can’t exactly “just switch them out”. How the fuck do I beat this guy?
>>
>>750527698
No, localizations are fanfiction
>>
>>750533027
>unmistakable that he raised his buster to Wily while the man bwgged for his life
And then put it down after Wily;'s line. Which leads to this awkward moment where blue boy yells that he's more than a Robot while not aiming nor charging his buster.

>>
>>750533269
Yo-Yo program advances melts him. Just add a bunch of yo-yos to your folder + invis
>>
>>750533269
If you have a Grass style your charged buster will wreck the barrier protecting the core, I think the Aqua style charged buster can also charge fast enough to break through as well. After that it's just spam Lifeswords, I guess. If you're playing Blue having access to Folderback means you can just never run out of chips either.
> I’ve traded most of my excess chips to the battle chip trader so I can’t exactly “just switch them out”.
That was a retarded decision and one you should not repeat on any BN game you decide to play going forward. Always keep enough copies of a chip that you can max it in your folder, even if you think it's shit.
>>
>>750533502
Don't all Zeta PAs already come with built-in invis? Though having invis for surviving turns is probably also a good idea for someone who is struggling against Alpha.

Also on the note of capcom's approval. Pic is a Japanese translation of the English line where Protoman refers to Mega as his brother. Capcom also approved this despite Japanese media pointing to Megaman still not knowing the truth about Proto. Really weird how Capcom gave permission for this important story moment and then immeidately forgot they did that and continued pretending Mega doesn't know.
>>
>>750533502
I know Higsby sells some but he probably doesn’t have multiple codes for the PA. I guess I’ll have to farm yo-yos. Thanks.
>>750533545
I had grass style earlier in the game. The charge was busted, but I switched to HeatShield to try it out. I am indeed playing Blue but there’s no way I’m farming 150+ bug fragments for FolderBack. Trading the excess chaff wasn’t retarded at the time, as they were randomly coded chips with no synergy at all and my chip folders were destroying the game. I’ll keep it in mind going forward I guess.
>>
>>750534213
I mean the cat was immediately out of the bag when they allowed his English name to be Proto Man.
>>
>>750534249
>there’s no way I’m farming 150+ bug fragments for FolderBack.
Deleting a navi with a counter hit will net you 10 bugfrags. With a Lifesword folder that's very easy on someone like Gutsman. It genuinely shouldn't take you more than 15 minutes to get 150.
In regards to chipcodes you should check Gamefaqs, there should be a faq that lists what busting ranks you need to get certain chips to drop. Don't forget to grab the Collect Program for your Navicust so you don't get Zenny.
>>
>>750534351
Japanese Material tells you the reader and player they're brothers. The point is that Megaman doesn't know.

I didn't see that guy's reply. Wouldn't have bothered restating it otherwise.
>He was clearly hesitant
>DIE WILY!!
>so I don't see the big deal about him lowering his weapon
It doesn't fit the English. If you're going to argue that the English was intended or was a valid interpretation, you have to address why it doesn't align with the visuals on screen. If you don't care about whether it's intended, go ahead. But you can't respond to a "Is this canon" question with "whether or not you like" because that implies a basis in fact and not feelings.
>So it's no less official
It's directly contradicted in material for ロックマン&フォルテ(Megaman and Bass)
>コックマンは知らないが、ロック マンの兄にあたる。

It does. He was upset but hesitant so instead of just shooting he stopped short and yelled. It's fine. And it is canon. As canon as the name "Mega Man". It's not an unofficial fan translation. But if you prefer the Jap version of the scene, that's okay too. They're both official Capcom releases.

i never get the logic that a localization isn't canon. the company puts it out as an official translation and it comes after usually so it should retcon the japanese version until a sequel confirms or disconfirms what happened. MM8 doesn't even reference it. if it comes from Capcom, how can it be non-canon
>>
>>750527698
Pure fanfiction. It even has the slow ellipsis text like from the Japanese version because localizers couldn't change how text is presented.
>>
>>750536107
>They can't both be true. One side is clearly making a mistake.
NTA but I don't think that's his point.

When they've made that same "mistake" more than once on the English side, for years, and Japan continuously approves the lines indicating that Rock knows Blues is his brother, are there really any actual mistakes being made, technically speaking? At what point is someone on the dev team actually just "okay" with the situation? Because if it was such a big deal, someone would've corrected future appearances of the mistake by now, but... they haven't. We know for a fact that plenty of Japanese devs will go out of their way to correct localizations to keep their story and lore consistent, even for children's games. The questions you need to ask are: Why not for Mega Man, and why not here?

There's the rather telling fact that Rockman 5 was supposed to have a big reveal for Blues and his relation to Rock and Roll:
https://x.com/Kobun20/status/1586419086212358146
Someone got cold feet, apparently, since Rock went right back to "who tf was that guy lmfao" then and afterward. But the key takeaway here is that it does lend credence to the notion that someone on the Japan side was "okay" with the west's interpretation of the plot point regarding Blues, and why they never bothered correcting it. My best guess is that someone, Inafune or whoever, decided that Rock knowing about Blues' origin was actually fine overseas, but decided to keep the plot point the same in Japan to avoid confusion there.

Or something. Shit's definitely weird, but I don't think either version is more or less valid than the other in this specific instance, mostly due to the apparent reluctance on Japan's part to "correct" the west's version. They seem content with the way things are on both sides. So it's strange when people "ERM ACTUALLY" about this, since Japan clearly doesn't mind Rock knowing about Bruce in the west.

Light gets told to fuck off with his robotics. Wily doesn't finish his wips including Zero. Rock and all of Light's bots get decommissioned. Cossack becomes the new it guy. Cain still probably finds Light's old notes but reploids aren't a thing.
>>
>>750541347
>Do the X games still happen? Would Zero even exist?
Whether we like it or not officially every Megaman series takes place on its own separate timeline. So in the classic timeline none of those games were going to happen anyway.
Megaman X is set in an alternate future to the classic series, Zero in an alternate future to the X series and so on.

X would probably have never happened. The law would've shut Light's robotics workshop down permanently. Megaman physically couldn't do it anyway since he's a robot and doesn't really have free will like a reploid does.
>>
>>750545084
Guy has a wikipedia page. Looks like he did author stuff for comic Bon Bon. Think this actually an authoritative source. So just an in-character interview for the kids. So it's not evidence Rockman was intended to know Blues was his brother.
>>
>>750541729
Gotta admit I didn’t see Light jacking off into a music box in front of Wily coming.
>>
>>750545361
Final note. Immediately upon reading the interview section without further research I clocked it as being something for kids. Not canon. And it's a crazy deduction. If you have a basic level of Japanese, it naturally reads that way. The only way you'd interpet as an idea they walked back is if you were coming from the angle of knowing about how Blues is overseas and were looking for corroborating evidence in Japanese. Which is a major problem with these kinds of translations. They bleed over into other material and breed more misunderstandings.

Probably yeah. The Japanese side just isn't going line by line. They're trusting the job was done to a professional standard because that what the translators were hired for. The translators are very likely not forthcoming about arbitary changes. For as much as often as the claim of working closely with all the parties involved is made, it's not the truth. It's corporate speak.

Not really I think. There's a corporate culture. You don't rock the boat. It probably broadly goes unnoticed because of the language barrier and then even if it does get noticed, no one says anything. And even if someone were to say something, it's loud obnoxious American saying the change is necessary because language differences that they're uniquely aware of because their professional translators vs Native Japanese people with varying levels of English proficiency. anybody with Claude experience here can do a small hack of Rockman 4 Minus Infinity that restores the normal blinkin time of Megaman to the normal games (the normal mode in RM4MI is too fast and barely lasts half a second), while making the blinking time of the bosses back to how it was in the first 3 megaman's? that would make the game much easier and without the need to resort to tricks.

No. I mean we only care about the Japanese lore because it's the original. If Mega Man were originally American, we wouldn't give Rockman the time of day.

What changes do you think were made to the Japanese localization of Fallout New Vegas? Have you ever thought about it? What about Skyrim? Doom? Same deal here. The Japanese probably don't care about western localizations of Japanese games. They don't care that Vava became Vile, that Subaru became Geo, or that Rock Volnutt became MegaMan Volnutt.

It's autonomy with vague constraints. Restraints that X and reploids apparently lack.

Basically Rock and Roll are on the cusp of gaining full sentience (over simulating it through complex programming) but fully capitalizing upon that potential required building a whole new framework in X... I would assume. It's left fairly vague because, yanno, cartoon-level plot

this is a myth of a myth
the original japanese isn’t as vulgar, but it still implies the same thing (megaman angry at wily for his repeated crimes)

I beat X3 a couple days ago. The early game was insanely miserable, then you just kinda start breezing through. Not a fan of the weapons and not a fan of the Sigma fight. The chip system and the walker armor systems are some of the most undercooked shit I've ever seen.

Still, it's more Mega Man X so I had a decent time with it. Can't wait to jump into X4

It's just a big air balloon. How can you get off to robots, they're made of cold lifeless synthetic parts.
